A tube-powered radio on a bumpy road? What could possibly go wrong?

Irwin, you rock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

In the 70s, you could probably get a CB radio for your bike. CBs were everywhere back then.

I found an old-timey bulb horn and I've been scaring the crap out of my cat with it. It was probably once attached to a bike like that.

I should stop. She's pretty alarmed.

I heard CBs can only go four or five miles on a good day...by definition, that would be really local radio....by the way, Irwin can you play some old King Crimson?

PLEDGE. PLS.

I hope that you will post the schematics and parts list for the bike radio so that listeners who want to receive your broadcast while riding bikes can build this project. Reminds me of the Cub Scout build a radio project I completed in 1961. I'm about ready to take on the challenge once again.

Irwin should also be careful of men. Just sayin.

Hi Irwin, I'm just a 'Merican curmudgeon that doesn't pledge to anything that doesn't promote wanton destruction of humanity and emotional trauma on the innocent. Sorry. But this New Bird is really too cool and rewarding. Thanks.

I used to ride around with a transistor AM radio on my bike. I didn't wear a suit, though.

We're $275 away from this show's fundraising goal. $20 will bump the status bar 1%.

Has there ever been a bad version of "Freedom Jazz Dance"? What a great song.

You got it Irwin $20. Finally! I have made it! I am one of the 1%, or at least someone like him.

That kid/executive bike riding terrorist is lucky he's not from the 21st century or he would be arrested for building "half a bomb"!.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm

Jack: Yes! I bought a dozen or so in iTunes because I love the composition. One of them -- by a big-name jazzbo whose name escapes -- was kinda lame. Otherwise, it's almost foolproof, like Caravan.

Arthur C. Miller's other invention, the beer-keg radio, would be a great novel addition to the WFMU break room or the backstage of Monty Hall.

Thanks, Ken from Hyde. Looks like a regenerative design. Can someone explain to me why the volume control is biasing the screen in the 1st audio stage?

I've been away from the radio for a little bit and "Don't Cross the Street" has been stuck in my head the whole time. Imagine a time when advertisers and broadcasters actually cared about the safety of kids who live in the city, and you get some idea how old that PSA is.

@carmichael I couldn't leave OK for CA quickly enough. Now in WV I almost remonis fondly for OK. Sacramento mid-town is getting downright nasty....what's up with that? Are the K street bars really that good or is the mall violence related to rotten local talent?

...I mean seriously: I'm not especially cultured - but for all the stuff there is about romance & relationships - that Joe Frank's particularly observationally descriptive, & so moving...

To the lovers of this Joe's story may I recommend something that I read in Russian with original title in French La Modificacion by Michel Butor. An incredibly slow but gripping unravelling of the protagonist's train journey to reunite with his mistress for good - all taking place in his head...
