HELP GET ME SUSPENDED!!!! Send them green papers with the nice pictures of Billy McKinley, Ulysses.S. Grant, and Benny Franklin with the BIG numbers on 'em to MY show Zzzzzzero Hour!

@LL When you say one-eyed cat I'm assuming you don't have a cat cyclops terrorizing you and your computer equipment.

i do! not cyclops exactly .. his existing eye is in the right place.

@LindaLee: Is the cat a stray that got an eye infection? That’s pretty common.

We used to regularly hang at a club in NJ that was called the Latin Casino. In the 50s all the biggies used to play there. It reinvented itself as a disco in the mid 70s and then turned into a New Wave club - saw XTC, Joe Jackson, Pretenders, B52s....

P-90:

The Soupy Sales thing has been blown a little bit out of proportion over the years. Kids didn't actually raid their Dad's wallets and send money to WNEW, a very few people sent a buck or two just to be in on the joke. The point was that it was New Year's Day, and he was joking about how some of the parents would still be crashed out after partying all night when his show was on in the early afternoon. There was some controversy when the papers picked up the story and his show was actually suspended for one week as a token gesture, no one took it that seriously. I still remember the cartoons they showed in place of his show that week, and counting the days until he would be back.

Congratulations Zzzzzzzero hour!
and thanks Bill, another one for the ages...

@Linda: ultimately the Soupy thing was an off-the-cuff gag about feeling put-upon for not being given the day off, and it turned into a public relations stunt that increased the show's visibility and ratings. it was a very hip show, Sales was a Jazz fan and worked a lot of hip bee-bop into the show, and a lot of hipster humor aimed at adults. Sinatra was among his fans and surprise celebrity guests, and gave him a comedy record contract on his label. He was a real sweet guy and it came across on his show. I miss him.
