Hello EFD! Last hot/nasty day of NY/NJ summer today is I hope.

I hope you're right!

@efd: I feel like one of those old coots in Westerns going loopy for rain. Dagnabbit!

Stevel:

Jus' hang in thear', young feller. Rain's a comin', sure as midnight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm
Stevel:

Love the loud sustained vocals by the Senate. Can't decide if they are 'good' or not. Not overly concerned by this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm
efd:

I think that's a good approach, Steve.

@Stevel: That is called being open-minded.

double grrrrrrrrr.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm
efd:

I assume the double grrrrrrrrr is for my lack of enthusiasm over Warren Zevon, but what was the first one for?
  9:42pm
Larry:

Warren had a lot of Colorado interests, as expressed in his song "Things to do in Denver When You're Dead."
Avatar 9:42pm
glenn:

no, they're both related to the fact that the bosox are killing the blue jays.

you have impeccable taste, evan. i would never grrrrr you.

Those Pretty Wrongs going out to Red Sox front office for signing Sandoval.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm

OHHHH!!! Yeah, I'm honestly conflicted about that myself, to be honest; I'd like to see the Jays open up a nice lead in the AL East.

aw, and thank you!

that said, there's a lot of good warren zevon.

about 20 years ago, L7 was at Lollapalooza. After their set, they were in a side tent giving haircuts for charity. Fun times.

Hell yeah L7

Riot Fest is in town, but as usual I won't be going. But if I was, I'd definitely see L7. I do appreciate the after shows.

20 years ago is about when I saw L7 on Lolla.

I remember Blondie's first album was on Private Stock...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm

I'm changing my name to Power Papi
  10:22pm
JakeGould:

Interesting Private Stock factoid: “The label closed down when Uttal moved to London; he later returned to New York where he died in 1993. His son Jai Uttal has the rights to the catalogue, but does not have access to the master tapes as they were lost when an unpaid storage bill forced their auction.” en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm
efd:

yeah, I remember trying to find out what happened with that label after they shut down and finding out about that - what a shame. Although I also got the impression from something else I read that Uttal fils wasn't really that interested in his father's legacy anyway.

Was there ever a better live band than Sly and the Family Stone (when they showed up, on time and not completely stoned)?
  10:46pm

:) Sly.

Larry Graham's pretty badass.

They seemed to know their way around the recording boards at the Fillmore. Great recording.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm

I saw The Family Stone, with many of the original members this summer at The GrassRoots festival in central NY. They were great! Still got IT!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
efd:

well I wasn't paying attention and now we're listening to another Sly & the Family Stone song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
efd:

not that I think anyone's complaining.
  10:51pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Uncle Michael, "Pretty badass"? Larry Graham is the very definition of it.
  10:51pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

You could play the entire Sly and the Family Stone late show and it would still rock everyone mightily
  10:52pm
clinton hensley:

That's their power, my man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm
Uncle Michael:

Larry thought to mount a mic to his bass. That's badass.

First aid tip for treating a sprain: apply more funk.

btw Michael ftLC I owe you an email; will try to follow up tomorrow. This week has not been conducive to me doing anything but the bare minimum.
  10:54pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Too hot!
  10:55pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

I have listened to all of them--big difference between early and late show and if I recall correctly the last show is the most different
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
efd:

I will have to check them out! The tracks I've heard on different people's shows here have been great.
  11:02pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

They're all great and just a bit different--if I recall the last show's set list is very different, but the other shows mostly played the same set with different feel and nuance. All of it terrific though--and was it opening for Hendrix? Imagine that!

Cyro Baptista is one of the most entertaining characters you could ever see on a stage
  11:30pm
JakeGould:

@Ike: Slow night, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm
Ike:

Hey @Jake, yeah. I keep trying to turn off the AC but the humidity keeps coming back. And I'm wondering if I skip Colbert's 2nd Late Show episode. Last night's had serious pilot-itis. Loved him on "Colbert Report" but this is another animal entirely. Probably needs a few months to gel.
  11:44pm
Larry:

"Friday, I'm in Love"--best song ever!'' Well, pretty good anyway...
  11:45pm
JakeGould:

@Ike: I gotta confess. I never found Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert funny. But I was also into Letterman when he was on NBC and thought the CBS show was… Meh… And find the current crop of late night talk show hosts to be all… Meh… WHERE’S MY TUNA VOUCHER!
  11:48pm
JakeGould:

Cold beet soup is borsch. Kids nowadays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm
Ike:

Well, we can agree on Letterman. 12:30 a.m. gives more leeway to be weird, as Craig Ferguson did for a while. At 11:35 you have to play nice w/the network & go after a bigger audience, so Letterman got boring on CBS.
  11:51pm
JakeGould:

Humidity is 81% in Bay Ridge. Rain is now supposedly happening tomorrow AM. But that kind of humidity is rain making humidity.
  11:54pm
JakeGould:

@Ike: Also, 100% nobody cared about late night TV when Letterman got that show. Heck, those were the days of random late night reruns and TV stations going off the air at like 2:00am. And then at 6:00am this kind of sign on would happen: www.youtube.com... would
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
Alex of Chicago:

Fond memories of staying up past my bedtime to watch early Letterman. It definitely felt like anything could happen, even if it didn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm

Thanks EFD!
