fantastic photo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm
Irene Trudel:

Thanks P-90 and Dale. Nice music to go with the sunset. But not exactly the best for sitting at Citifield at the Mets game, which is where Sean is right now! I'll bet it's pretty loud there.
  9:10pm
JakeGould:

Hey Irene! Nice sunset!

Thanks Jake!

disastrogirl:

Hi Irene. I still miss your show on Mondays. It was a nice way to start my mornings. I only hear you now if I'm working late.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm
dale:

i have all the moodys solo stuff, too - even the ray thomas albums that are fairly crappy.
Avatar 9:39pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

Aw, just missed the Moodys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm
Mike East:

Moody Blues is a band that many have told me I should get into, but I haven't dived in yet. Maybe its time. Dug what you played
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm
melinda:

Like the flutes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm

mike - go no further than seventh sojourn. delve into the magnificent moodies for skiffely r&b.
Avatar 9:44pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- consider Moodys perhaps thee representative of the transition form Psych to Prog
...& kind of in my own way thot of them as the flipside of same coin as Syd's Floyd; who says Psych must always be the screaming horrors? Not me.
  9:45pm
Andrew:

Good evening, Irene. I discovered Jade Warrior just a few years back, long after their time. Nice hearing them now.

Bronwyn Bishop:

I like this flute theme. I played flute in elementary school. I was good at it but I haven't picked it up in years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm
Irene Trudel:

Hi disastrogirl! Sorry you can only listen occasionally. As for the Moodys, Mike East, To Our Children's Children's Children is a particular favorite of mine (I also have a fond acid trip memory to go along with it). That and In Search of the Lost Chord are my two faves. Dale, I've tried to like the solos-- very spotty at best but most have at least one song or two worth more than one listen. Andrew, glad you like Jade Warrior. I haven't played them in way too long.
Avatar 9:58pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

Irene, you dropped acid???
  9:59pm
JakeGould:

@BronwynBishop: These wacky WFMU DJs… Who knows what they do and when they do it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm
Mike East:

thanks for the Moody tips, guys. Will definitely hit the "M" section the next time I'm at Ye Olde Record Shoppe.

I took acid the first time at Rutgers...in the woods off the Livingston campus...good times.
  10:04pm
Sean in Long Island City:

Hi Irene,
Just got back from the game, a complete disaster, 14-6 Phillies, time to rest and listen to your wonderful choice of music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm
Mike East:

I also did not often, and have not in many years...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm
Irene Trudel:

Yes, Mike, a little LSD went a long way for me. Glad I tried it, though. Sean, I'm so sorry The Mets didn't win for you. Drown your sorrows and I'll continue to play some nice music for you.
Avatar 10:26pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

Such a beautiful song. Its use in Love and Mercy was so brilliant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
Mike East:

agree, Bronwyn. Really dug that movie. Was thinking you'd have to try pretty hard to make a bad movie with a Beach Boys soundtrack. In the very least you could close your eyes and just listen and its better than half the films out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm
Irene Trudel:

Love and Mercy was really great, although I couldn't get away from the idea that John Cusack as Brian Wilson wasn't entirely believable.
  10:40pm
KP:

The younger actor should have played both parts. He was great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
Mike East:

I know what you mean. I thought he did a great job of conveying the feeling of being trapped and frightened, though, so it worked as a drama.
  10:41pm
KP:

Good evening, Irene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Irene Trudel:

Agreed, KP (and Hello). Paul Dano was really terrific in the part.
  10:43pm
Sean in Long Island City:

Irene, wonderful as ever but I am starting to wilt so will catch the rest of the show in archive
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
Irene Trudel:

Glad you were able to join us in real time, Sean!
Avatar 10:46pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

The parts where Paul Dano as Brian began to hear voices made me cry :(
  10:46pm
dave:

Wow, Irene, this is incredible
  10:48pm
KP:

That's just it. Dano was believable.
  10:51pm
JakeGould:

Paul Dano is a very good actor.
  10:52pm
KP:

This Eszter is believable as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm
Mike East:

Exit 63 is long beach island!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm
Mike East:

(probably not what she's referring to) ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
Irene Trudel:

No, it's a song inspired by Eszter's dad.
  11:03pm
JakeGould:

Eszter Balint is talented and has a cool career.
  11:06pm
Clay Pigeon:

Paul Giamatti and Elizabeth Banks were really good in Love and Mercy, as well. I always think Cusack is interesting. He had the facial mannerisms, posture, speech syntax down very well. I guess another question would be ... who else might have been cast? Bill Pullman? Irene, you sound great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm
Irene Trudel:

Jake, did you hear the set she recorded for me in July? It's in the archives. Really great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
Irene Trudel:

Thanks Clay! I thought Giamatti was a bit over the top, but I guess that's what he's best at. Bill Pullman might've been a good choice, but I agree with KP that Paul Dano should've played both roles.
  11:11pm
JakeGould:

@IreneTrudel: Yup! Great set!
Avatar 11:12pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

Giamatti was definitely over the top (although still good) but apparently they actually toned the character of Landy down from the real thing...
  11:22pm
?:

Irene, do you know Karen Beth? I found an album of hers recently and I like it. I think Dano was maybe too young to play the older Wilson. They would have had to go all Benjamin Button on him. He was tremendous in There Will Be Blood. You are also tremendous!
  11:23pm
Clay:

OOPs ? is me.
  11:24pm
JakeGould:

@Clay: Damn! You made a mistake!
  11:25pm
Clay:

A huge mistake, Jake. My face is warm with shame.
  11:27pm
JakeGould:

@Clay: I’m getting my stone out and a chisel to mark this moment officially for eternity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
Irene Trudel:

No, I don't know Karen Beth's music. Is it in WFMU's library? I'll have to check her out.
  11:31pm
Clay:

I just found it her "Harvest" LP at a flea market. Decca. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXHs6KNoI6o Have to run. It was nice hearing you and talking movies. Love to Peter. :>)

Sothing & satisfying as usu., Ms. Trudel. Leaving as you sign off for my recent streamed addiction -- Art Bell -- & unfortunately I've drunk so much Coke I might stay up thru it instead of sleeping.
