Hi Therese and folks!

thanks for helping me out , jake.

Funky, blaxploitation-like!

I Vote for Miles! For...Columbia's Legacy!
Avatar 12:15am
Matt from Springfield:

I wonder if Herbie Hancock is playing in here...he was really the link between jazz, funk and hip-hop over many years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am
Santos L Halper:

Good call Matt! I had forgotten, was thinking just chick...
  12:22am
JakeGould:

@Matt: Seems like Herbie Hancock was indeed on that “On the Corner” LP.
Avatar 12:22am
BadGuyZero:

I looked it up. Herbie did play on that album as did Chick Corea.

greetings Therese and people;others.
Avatar 12:24am

UPDATE: I found track-by-track credits that list Chick as the keyboardist on "Vote For Miles."

Success in the jazz performers guessing pasttime!
All those guys are great, seems to be a great album.
  12:26am
JakeGould:

“Success in the jazz performers guessing pasttime!” Makes me wistful for Tower Records on Broadway in the Village. Now that jazz section had some staff with some serious knowledge to share.
Avatar 12:27am
Matt from Springfield:

My Swagmas was last Monday, still playin' through my stuff - I look forward to this!

@Therese: Cup of Ambition! Already have listened! :) Margie Joseph and Feist & the Constantines are particularly great! And GOLDIE HAWN! Who knew?!
Avatar 12:29am
Matt from Springfield:

@Jake: It's a big part of jazz culture, as Irwin's pointed out it seems wrong to play a jazz cut without listing the personnel. But it's a shame that Tower store went under with the rest of them. Helpful staff for jazz, classical or any other non-chart topping genre is invaluable.
Avatar 12:31am
Matt from Springfield:

"In 1972 Hawn recorded and released a solo country LP for Warner Brothers, titled Goldie. It was recorded with the help of Dolly Parton and Buck Owens. AllMusic gives the album a favorable review, calling it a "sweetly endearing country-tinged middle of the road pop record"."

Remember: heaviest swag packages take the longest to send out.

In fact I haven't gotten to Joe McG's current premium because I wanted to listen to 2011's "Heavy Breathers" from Prize Warehouse first!

"MACROmize your Macros! Excel!"

I should probably take an Excel class. I'm still using all the tricks/hacks I learned in the late 90s.

Pivot tables rock. Did they get to lookup tables too?
  12:37am

The first time I actually programmed anything was when I programmed macros for Word/Excel mail merges back in 1992.
Avatar 12:37am

Nuts! Macro's are where the $$ at, if I learned a few tricks w/ that..

Whoa ! Cool Ayers covet! Hey Therese and all!
Avatar 12:46am
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, this was a Kevin Ayers song? Not surprised, it has that "spacey" feel about it. Hey VP!
Avatar 12:47am
Matt from Springfield:

Oh yeah, this is the song he wrote for his daughter - this version sounds totally different, but you can still feel Ayers' influence in it.

But, compared to what?
  1:12am
JakeGould:

@Matt: You ever program? Tech terms and names are nuts. You know where the name of Hadoop came from? It's distributed system software. And the name came from the core developer's kid's favorite toy: A blue toy elephant the kid named... Hadoop. I can't make any of this up!
Avatar 1:14am
Matt from Springfield:

It's so true Jake. Tech, computer, engineering terms...I always want to know the backstory because it's often not readily apparent!
  1:17am
JakeGould:

@Matt: I'm happy that I am far enough along in my tech career to say, "This stuff is interesting, but who named it?"
Avatar 1:18am

No problem, Joe! I am psyched to hear their set!
Avatar 1:28am

Blackie Lawless has gone in a musical direction I would not have predicted.
Avatar 1:31am
BadGuyZero:

Very appropriate song for 27 hours and 16 minutes ago.
Avatar 1:33am
Matt from Springfield:

27:16, wasn't that the length of the full, uncut "Helter Skelter"? Maybe it was 27 hours, not minutes..
Avatar 1:34am
Matt from Springfield:

27:11, actually.
Avatar 1:38am
Matt from Springfield:

"Very Dionne is the fourteenth studio album by American singer singer Dionne Warwick, released in 1970 on the Scepter label."
"All songs written and composed by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, except where noted." This song is no exception, natch.
Avatar 1:41am
BadGuyZero:

Maybe Dionne was gazing into a crystal ball and singing about AirBnB.
Avatar 1:42am
Matt from Springfield:

Oh yeah, hanging on to your luggage well after/before checking - I know that!
Avatar 1:44am

Lucy Lawless is from New Zealand. Maybe she's related to someone that's in the WASP from Australia.
Avatar 1:56am

Let's hope Irma remembers her old records for her set at Ponderosa Stomp this year!
Avatar 1:57am

Thinking about Therese, as she plays old records!
Avatar 1:58am

Wow, is she performing this year? That's great!
Avatar 2:01am

Yup, headlining the 2nd night. I saw her 2 years ago at a free street fair thing and she sounds great.

Hi Therese! Great show today.....and have a great week as usual! =)
Avatar 2:58am

Have a great week everyone! See you back here next time.
Avatar 3:00am

@Matt: I did a playlist search. Therese played a track last October by a band called The Oubliettes. I'm pretty sure that's the previous discussion I'm thinking of.
