Brasil Summerfest Festival Preview with Béco Dranoff

Hear this show now: Pop-up listen Pop-up player! | Add or read comments

For over two decades Béco Dranoff has helped push Brazilian music in new directions, as a producer, manager, and DJ. He's the man behind the groundbreaking Red Hot + Rio collaborative compilation project in support of AIDS-awareness (and the more recent follow-up). And he was founder and head honcho of Crammed Discs' Ziriguiboom sublabel. Red Hot + Rio and Ziriguiboom both spotlighted new artists and new hybrids of electronics, rock and old school Brazilian roots and pop styles.

Here in New York, Béco is co-producer of Brasil Summerfest, the city's sensational summer series of new Brazilian music. He joins us tonight to preview this year's Brasil Summerfest, which takes place July 30th through August 8th in various venues around NYC.

Do you know if Big Blood is recorded tonight Rob? (And aired at a certain time?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm Rob W:

Hi Bas, the Big Blood show will definitely be recorded on audio and video but I'm not sure if there are broadcast plans yet. In fact, as of now I believe almost every performance in Monty Hall is being recorded to audio and video.
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 7:03pm Bas NL:

Thanks Rob! Hope to see that in future; so bad to live a long way away and not being able to pop in..

...a little tangential, but if like me you favor Psych, &/or for further Brazilian music reference:
- Gary's 'Bodega Pop' Tropicália special was quite marvelous:

- & WNYU's Psych show 'Plastic Tales from the Marshmallow Dimension' happens to spotlight Tropicália in its' latest episode:
