Love the first Cake album. Haven't heard the second one. Wild!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am Marcel M:

Good morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Uncle Michael:

That Capitol Jazz Classics series is great stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am fred:

Hello Bob and all. The slavedriver wants me to go host a training session at capitol tower in September. I already said no (no interest in LA), but is there a reason I should give ground?
  9:26am P-90:

Hi Bob and all. Roaring right out of the gate with an inpired playlist this morning, loving every bit of it.
  9:31am joe!:

so nice to wake up to this great music every saturday--stay young, bob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Marcel M:

@Fred: I donno I could never live in LA but I've been twice and enjoyed it. I think its worth checking out if you've never been. Unless of course the work you would have to be doing is really bad and time consuming and thats the reason you don't want to go. Do you have a license?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Uncle Michael:

I too enjoy visiting L.A. once in a while. There's a lot of great restaurants out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Marcel M:

Yeah LA can be really fun. I would try to go with some sort of a plan though, unless you know people. The thing about LA is, its tough getting around, its not like other cities where you can kind of wander around and find stuff to do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am fred:

@Marcel: looks like they planned social events for "bonding" -- I'm a software developer, how's that relevant -- so I'd have little free time. I'd love to see the Watts Towers though, but I don't drive, and -- being french -- distrust cabs
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:39am WilliamfromDumont:

One of the Cake was married to Traffic's Chris Wood.
  9:40am P-90:

@fred: Visiting is indeed the best way to experience LA! I'm from NY but have lived and woked in LA (even went to high school there) and it's definitely worth visiting and getting a sense of all that is beautful and culturally significant there. There are lots of reasons not to live there, but just as many good reasons to grab a chance to visit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am fred:

I'm a reformed anorexic, so food has little appeal to me, and eating with others is just gross to me
Avatar 9:41am Todd-o-phonic:

Ernie wrote "The Wanderer", also "Lovers Who Wander" and"Whenever A Teenager Cries" amongst his hits. If anyone is interested I did an hour tribute to him on last week's show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Marcel M:

@Fred: judging from your last two posts... maybe not then! Hehe. If you are just gonna be stuck out there doing work stuff all day and you can pass.... I'd maybe pass then.
Avatar 9:44am Todd-o-phonic:

Hey Pete- How many of these records were turned into you at Cheap Thrills???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Gaylord Fields:

Bruce doing the best Magnetic Fields song Stephin Merritt never wrote!
  9:45am Jeff:

He should have done this song when he sat in with Brian Wilson in NJ a few weeks ago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am fred:

@Marcel: Really what puts me off is that it's not supposed to be a walkable city. I'm a fan of architecture, so walking around could make my day. Is that worthwhile, or even doable there?
9:46am David in ATL from NJ:

Why do maybe think this is my favorite Bruce Springsteen song?
  9:47am Susan:

Gaylord, you are so right!
  9:48am herb.nyc:

me a dope; who is Pete Tomlinson? thx
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am fred:

@David: One can only wonder, I mean these girls are *in* their clothes
  9:48am herb.nyc:

wait, who is Bob B? and why?
  9:49am P-90:

@fred: There are many sections of the city that can be toured on foot very enjoyably, but you have to drive or be driven to each of those sections. Do you know anyone at all who lives there, who could serve as a guide if you went there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Marcel M:

@Fred: Well, when I went, we would go to certain neighborhoods and walk around, like from one end of Hollywood to the other, etc. But you have to get to each place, and its not as easy like in NYC or Paris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am Marcel M:

Hehe. Yep exactly, P90. Once you get to the areas walking around is enjoyable, and the architecture downtown is really cool, especially all the old hotels. Clifton's Cafeteria! en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am Gaylord Fields:

@susan: Both songs are 21st-century Spectorsound reworkings sung by craggy baritones who know their way around both a melody and a set of melancholic lyrics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am fred:

I don't know anyone there, and after spending a workday with the guys from Universal, I think the last thing I'd want to do is spend more time with them. Yeah, I'm socially awkward to the point of anxiety. I told you I'm a geek. My best shot to make this tolerable would be to find a listener there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am fred:

Thanks for the tips guys, I gotta go now (new boots to break in, tough, blistering work, but someone's gotta do it)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Gaylord Fields:

And I meant to say both "Girls" and many MF songs...
  10:06am Susan:

@Gaylord, I understood. I don't usually like Springsteen's work but you did well to explain the appeal of "Girls".
  10:08am herb.nyc:

neat, that Pete did Big Star notes!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Marcel M:

Bye Fred!

Hi Gaylord! Are you going to the show tonight?
  10:13am Stuart Rose:

Gaylord, elegant description of the essence of songs like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am Gaylord Fields:

@Marcel M: I'll be attending the Mets/Heart doubleheader tonight.

@Stuart Rose: aw, shucks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Marcel M:

@Gaylord: Ah, ok! Have fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Gaylord Fields:

You, too @Marcel M.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am Grouse:

for greek myth in pop music... what about "Tales of Brave Ulysses" or "Achilles Last Stand" etc etc. Also any songs about Venus or Pandora's Box.
  10:22am Eddie:

A Girl Called Eddy is Erin Moran, not Eddi Reader.

Pete's right. It's Clapton.

What's a bend?
  10:39am Listener Robert:

Is it a slide/glissando?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:42am WilliamfromDumont:

Wow! What a great Yardbirds tune!

  3:58pm Wayne G:

That Bruce Springsteen song reminds me of a Mekons classic called "Ghosts of American Astronauts". Well worth checking out on youtube.
  7:40pm Wayne G:

Is there a rule that you can't comment once the broadcast is over? Seems like I am the only person here listening after the fact...
