....and good evening irene....

Listener Robert:

Hey, I just checked & Wikipedia says Oscar Brand is still alive. I'd had one of those vague but false recollections we all tend to get that he'd died. I hope I didn't just jinx him. SOMEONE died, wasn't he.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Permission to wave hello?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm
Irene Trudel:

Hi dale, Robert and Ken! No, Maria was not on that one. The appearance on Oscar's show might've been their first ever. And, yes Oscar is still alive and STILL doing a weekly radio show on WNYC-AM. He gets a little more loopy as he ages.
  9:12pm
Listener Robert:

Sometimes I forget that I stopped hearing someone not because they died, but just because I stopped listening.

Irene Trudel:

You're not missing much with Oscar's show.

Hello from the sovereign nation of Savannah, Irene.

It's hot but it's a humid heat.

Pete Gary:

Why put down Oscar Brand. What did he do to you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm
Irene Trudel:

I'm not putting down Oscar.I've worked with him a whole bunch on various radio shows and special concert. I'm just sayin' He's gettin' a little out there...
  9:47pm
KP:

But was on an island yesterday and the river today. Another island tomorrow; should be interesting, an isolated community.

Sounds nice, KP. Jake, I wish I were at that beach right now. But soon I'll be on the beach in Newport, RI. (I'm off the next two weeks for vacation.)
  9:55pm
JakeGould:

Whatever beach you might be at, may it be filled with ice cubes and cool breezes.

Webhamster Henry:

Hey Irene, fill a tub with cool water and stick your feet in there - that works remarkably well!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm
Webhamster Henry:

I think Oscar Brand has been on since 1945 .. 70 years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm
Irene Trudel:

Oscar has the longest running radio show ever. I believe he holds the Guiness world record for that.
  10:18pm
Peter K.:

Longest continuously running radio show with a single host. Alistair Cooke had the old record. It will be 70 years for Oscar in December.

By the way -- great show tonight!!

Irene, it was a dream come true, but a few levels less than KaTe of course. Still, it was incredible. And PACKED. Nice to see. Lots of fans

Maddy Prior did a very nice toast as it were to Tim Hart. Very heartfelt. Very endearing. Tears.

What a fantastically talented group! You got the violin girl singing harmony, you got the drummer playing guitar on some! Just incredible stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm
Irene Trudel:

Happy to oblige! Haven't played Steeleye Span for a long time. When Peter Knight was recording a solo album at my friend's studio (Mix-O-Lydian) I got to sit in and watch him play.
Avatar 10:53pm
Van in DC:

After the show, I had Maddy Prior sign a CD I bought there...I told her what a dream it was of mine to see her and Steeleye Span, and I got to do it in the same year as with KaTe..her eyes lit up :)

Wow, this is waking up long-resting synapses. We were dressing the salad and I looked over at the radio and said, wait, is this... thinking... Steeleye Span? I even pulled Maddy Prior's name out of the cobwebby back of my brain before checking. I had a major British Isles phase decades ago, and this is a time machine.

Now I know what I'll be doing this weekend, thanks Irene...

And this right here is not unlike David Russell, the never-before-played (on FMU, all the time on WETA though) classical guitarist GURU who is so awesome.
