Favoriting April 21, 2015: LAURA KARPMAN & NORA KROLL-ROSENBAUM: Tribeca Film Festival Edition
Composers Laura Karpman & Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum join us, originally scheduled to be in town for the premier of CODE: Debugging The Gender Gap at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival. CODE is the latest documentary directed and produced by Robin Hauser Reynolds which exposes the lack of female and minority computer software engineers and explores the reasons for the gender gap and digital divide. The film marks the two composers' most recent documentary co-composition, the last being Regarding Susan Sontag which premiered at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival. Lara and Nora are both students of late electronic music pioneer Milton Babbitt and have well over 100 combined film, documentary and television credits to their names, including Stephen Spielberg's miniseries Taken, The Tournament, Carrie (2002), Man in the Chair and Stockholm, Pennsylvania.

As a fairly nice, relatively easy-going, cooperative and open to sharing guy in tech I can give my two cents on “…dearth of female and minority computer software engineers.” The profession is just filled with hyper-competitive a-holes. Which sounds like every other field, but you would think in a world where hard facts exist somehow competition is lessened by empiricism. Nope. No idea really. Just filled with a-holes. I’m old enough to call out many techs and developers as a-holes, but it sucks.
