I have now been in two apartments with the up ladder to the roof. So I can appreciate the sentiments of the Supremes in this song.

Hi Tome and JakeGould!

Whoa… “Emotional Rescue.” I had the urge to hear this a few days ago on the subway on my iPhone. And I did!

RSD Haul? HI Therese and everyone!

Jake - livin' on the edge!...

@Matt: Yup. You know it.

Hi Therese! How's my favorite nighttime DJ doing? =)

... woo no L train from Lorimer in to Manhattan , late nights in the day of the LL train ,, don't think 1/10 of the "noise complaints" would have been made ...
  12:13am
JakeGould:

@Tome: It’s not so bad. You can take the G train to Hoyt-Sasquatchamatterhorn in Brooklyn and then transfer to a real train at Atlantic Avenue.
  12:14am
JakeGould:

Who am I kidding… The L train and G train are horrible…

A couple of hours ago, a friend and I were discussing how there were so few MUST HAVE things this Record Store Day. I picked up less than ten things yesterday. I was surprised that my local record store had copies of The Everymen's RSD 7-inch.
Avatar 12:15am
Matt from Springfield:

Ah, the Sasquatch District of Brooklyn. How's that neighborhood doing?
  12:17am
JakeGould:

@Matt: Local to Brooklyn only, but the stop is Hoyt-Schermerhorn but nobody knows how to pronounce Schermerhorn so it gets changed to Schlermgerdhorne and such… At least by me.
Avatar 12:17am
Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: I myself mostly stocked up on dollar records and used vinyl - I ended up picking 2 "Rough Guides" on Indian Psych and Bollywood Disco, but ended up not picking the Jaco Pastorius comp (no one had listened or was familiar with it) and I plan to iTunes Of Montreal rather than pay $$$ for the vinyl.
Avatar 12:20am
Matt from Springfield:

@Jake: Makes sense. I think I'd go with "Hoyt-Schmear", like a bagel.

@BGZ: I did "need" "Born In The USA" for my collection, but found a perfectly good used copy for $6! Beats the $30 on the reissue!
Avatar 12:23am
BadGuyZero:

@Matt: Well played!

I'm always suspicious of those $30+ reissues on 180-gram [or however heavy] vinyl. As far as I know they're using the same master that was used for the CDs. I'd rather seek out an old copy from the era when EVERYTHING was mastered for vinyl.
  12:24am
JakeGould:

I’ll just listen to music on my Pono.
  12:25am
rw:

Therese, you seem to be in a groovy mood this evening.
Avatar 12:27am
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks BGZ! And yeah, for the most part the real value is finding the vinyl master (and its mono version! and stereo! and US/UK/Europe/Japan variations! etc)
Avatar 12:29am
Matt from Springfield:

Great H&O, Therese! Never heard this one but you can tell this is "She's Gone" era!
  12:29am
JakeGould:

All I still know about vinyl is if you care about “heavy” vinyl you should always score Japanese releases. And color-tinted or picture discs are worst sound quality, but nice as novelties.
Avatar 12:32am
BadGuyZero:

Steve Albini says that clear vinyl sounds the best.

BadGuyZero:

Is it one of the copies of "Abandoned Luncheonette" with Roy Ziegler on the cover?
  12:34am
pp:

That's why the Luncheonette record was used for listens at stereophile stores in the 70's. Arif Mardin production with everything and the kitchen sink thrown in it.
  12:35am
KP:

Instead of RSD I was pressed into Gallery Weekend walking. Less money
Avatar 12:35am

NYC, Jake. NYT had a big pullout guide. Walked 6.8 miles

@KP: Oh that guide. I do similar walks without the guide on Thursday and Friday night openings. Did you enjoy it?
  12:45am
KP:

Was just listening to Kim Fowley interview ing ex-Byrd John York. York was on the first Sir Douglas Quintet album and they talked about that a bit

MONEYBAG$:

I don't think I've heard this J Geils song since I brought the record in for show & tell in second grade
  12:54am
JakeGould:

@MONEYBAG$: Cool! Did your second grade teacher take it from your hands and go, “Wow! That is soooooo interesting!” when you brought it out? How did you deal with “Centerfold” being on that album back then?
Avatar 12:54am
BadGuyZero:

This J. Geils Band song was used in an episode of "Freaks & Geeks."
  12:55am

Yes Jake but covering as much as we did meant less time actually looking. Best was an elaborate video called Liquidity in Soho

I brought my Happy Jack single to 7th grade music class and made up facts about it, a practice I have perfected
  12:59am
JakeGould:

@KP: In 3rd grade I wrote a book report on Roberto Clemente by hand copying the text from the inner flaps and smoothing it a bit so it would end/begin right. Got a commendation card from the principal. LIFE!

My local record shop gave me a sheet of stickers featuring the wrestlers from the cover of "Beat The Champ" when I bought the record.
  1:03am

@JakeGould: no, she didn't find it interesting. She was married to Miles Davis in the 70s and said Miles thought the J.Geils Band were a bunch of sad mother******s

  1:07am
JakeGould:

@KP: I also made money using the same technique to write a paper on the U.S. Constitution for a friend on the football team for $25 in high school. As an adult I can say that pretty much sums up how much most of the world works.
  1:08am
JakeGould:

4:20 on 4/20 is in 3 hours and 13 minutes. If you are legit that is when you will smoke up.

JakeGould:

@Matt: Stashu seems to be going into the world of interviews. For example, this week’s show she interviewed… Dr. Demento!
  1:13am
JakeGould:

@KP: Hey, I got magic skills. I also did a poster for a friend for a “Don’t Drive Drunk” competition. He sketched it out and I actually made the poster. He gave me $50 for the effort and my poster I did myself won and I made $100 off of that. Ka-ching!
  1:13am
MONEYBAG$:

I slept through the Dr Demento interview and woke up midway through the Tom Lehrer song, it felt like I was losing my mind
Avatar 1:15am
Matt from Springfield:

:) Moneybag$

@KP: Make sure you scale your costs, based on length and complexity. And still only copy the blurbs, since that's all The World seems to require.

@Jake: Dr. Demento! I need to listen to that.
Avatar 1:16am
Matt from Springfield:

@Therese: Oh, the "Hoyt-Skim Milk Horn" station, then.
  1:17am
KP:

Jake, was never great at layout. Had ideas but the execution wasn't there. Too bad because it is more lucrative than writing/editing.
Avatar 1:18am
Therese:

Matt- Definitely listen to the Dr. Demento interview! Stashu was very pleased with it.
  1:18am
KP:

Did I just hear William Corgan
  1:20am
JakeGould:

@KP: Funny you say that. For various reasons I fell into the world of production design and then computer tech. So my professional history is heavy on tech experience, but I am flirting with the idea of pure design and even writing again.
Avatar 1:25am
Matt from Springfield:

"Sit down, father, rest you..."

Well that says it all, Therese! I'll definitely check it out now!
  1:28am
