@Greg Pass the pierogi to the left 1x.

@Greg do you use food coloring to differentiate what kind of filling the pierogi has?

Dude, its drying me out. I need 12 gallons of water a day, at the minimum.

@DanneD: Ewwww. No food coloring in savory foods.

We go through a fair amount of green food coloring. The price of having a kid who loves green eggs and ham.

@Jake I'm w/ you. No green dyes in savory foods. I save that for my M&M's. Maybe you guys can add spinach instead. Spinach wraps don't use coloring (I don't think)

You can't catch shingles directly. If you haven't had chicken pox, you can catch chicken pox from someone with shingles.

Shingles: It's not like having Chicken Pox, it's like having searing pain in your skin (usually on your back.). That won't go away.

Shane-Michael:

I had shingles once. No fun man. Don't let that stuff go, I went to the doctor and he was mad at me I didn't come earlier because that stuff can get deadly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My worst time was coming home from Angouleme (french comic festival), and getting air sick on the plane, and spending hours in the bathroom BUT then arguing with the flight attendants and eventually having to sit in the seat while they landed. (just take an advil! they said.) They gave me a little bag and I had to sit next to a very uncomfortable person who I knew was a really well known comic artist (they didn't know me, thankfully). I later read their tweets and they read: "OH GOD GET ME OFF THIS PLANE." ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  10:28pm
JakeGould:

@DanneD: You are like Homer Simpson in that episode where he read that he should treat each day of his life as if it were his last. So he pulls over the car and starts cry/screaming about why does he have to die in a day?

Listener Robert:

I have numbness, swelling, & some weakness in some fingers of my L hand from a case of shingles in 2013. I had occasional shooting pains there too that took about a year to gradually go away.

How varicella zoster can cause herpes after so long AND YET respond to a vaccine is very mysterious to me. If you don't form protective antibodies from the initial case of chicken pox, why is the immune response to the Zostavax any better? If the virus is in a temperate form within nervous system cells, how does any circulating antibody affect it?

  10:40pm
Listener Robert:

When I was in med school almost 40 yrs. ago, they told us there was no good incentive to develop a vaccine against varicella, since chicken pox was so mild a disease, and it could be decades before it could be told whether a live, attenuated varicella vaccine would itself pose greater risk of shingles than the wild type virus.

And yet here we are. There've been enormous advances in vaccine technology, and an explosion of new vaccines. They say Zostavax, which is like a quintuple dose of the vaccine they give against chicken pox, is about 50-50 effective at preventing shingles.
  10:42pm
JakeGould:

@ListenerRobert: This show topic is almost up your alley. Any example of dealing with what you have dealt with in a situation you should have just instead have been at home resting?
  10:43pm
Carmichael:

Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome Capitol recording artists Quintuple Dose!
  10:55pm
Listener Robert:

Plenty of examples, Jake, but none stand out as above the others or interesting. The commonest examples most people could give would be traveling or doing something else outdoors in bad or dangerous weather, and doing things when you're sick. Others might be attempting various types of work when the required personnel or tools were missing. Dime a dozen.

The topic is kind of tough because there are too many stories like that and some are just TMI and not funny. I’m thinking about the time in college I ate two full pot brownies before taking final exams. That’s about it. 1/2 hour into exams the desk became very wavy.
