	1:11pm coelacanth: yes, i'm a bit envious of the clean-check-up people! my lower wisdom teeth roots have grown into my jaw. this apparently means 1) i have very healthy bones & 2) no one wants to extract them.

	1:15pm Polyus: @coelacanth: I had something similar, upper right side. They got most of it out, but there is still a bony protrusion under the gum. Doesn't hurt though. I imagine lower jaw is worse.

	1:18pm Caryn: Ever since my friend's dentist had to cut through her cheek to remove her wisdom tooth, I've been decidedly iffy about having mine removed.
	1:18pm coelacanth: Polyus i'm surprised they didn't want to cut your gum and get that bit out.
	1:19pm V Priceless: fun fact: I have four perfectly straight wisdom teeth, just in case someone out there is writing my bio. Caryn: WHAT???
	1:21pm coe: Yeah I worked for a dental insureance company for a little while. I saw some crazy xrays of wisdome teeth. growing through sinus cavitites, perfectly horizontal stuff that truely looked faked.
	1:22pm Polyus: Yeah I assume they figured it wasn't going to trouble me, which it hasn't. My wisdom teeth were super-erupted, not impacted - maybe that makes a difference? They came out pretty easily.
	1:22pm coelacanth: i think i'll keep them,even though i have insurance now. it means i must be extremely diligent to keep those clean though,and it's hard to fit a toothbrush behind them.
	1:24pm Diane Kamikaze: Wow that is brutal. All of mine are out, one was problematic. When it was pulled (lower jaw) I kept my eyes closed for most of it, but there was a LOT of grunting, the nurse was holding my head --I opened my eyes once to see the dentist had his foot next to my head trying to get leverage. He practically flew across the room when it gave...I have some pretty strong choppers!
	1:24pm coelacanth: my upper ones came out easily- and the roots were pressing into my sinuses, giving me headaches.
	1:25pm chris: i was asleep during my wisdom teeth extraction, thankfully... after surgery, woke up, room still spinning... highly recommended

	1:26pm Caryn: @V: that "WHAT???" is my reaction to a T when she showed up in class a week after the surgery and explained the procedure. @fish: yeah, mine have been erupting for almost a decade now, and still half-covered by gum, meaning they're incredibly hard to keep clean, meaning two now have cavities in them. That's one of the reasons they're taking them out now.

	1:32pm Claw!: Cut through the cheek?? Jeezus!! I had braces for a million years and got em taken off - the wisdom teeth were coming in impacted, threatening to mess my teeth up all over again, so the dentist went in and cut my gums open, broke em up, and pulled em out.
	1:32pm Cheri Pi: Tomorrow I have to drive Mr. CP to Lexington, KY so he can have serious gum surgery, possibly receiving grafts. *ick**

	👻 1:35pm Ken From Hyde Park: My dental trip last week turned up a cracked filling, which I'll get repaired in a couple of weeks. Fortunately, both my kids had no cavities (and no cavities ever for either of them).
	1:35pm Claw!: I pulled a friend's tooth out once - I pulled so hard, the tooth flew and hit me in the face. I have a sweet eyebrow scar from it.

	1:37pm coelacanth: i tried to pull my first wisdom tooth out. i couldn't budge it. it had a cavity,so i got it out, with no anesthetic. i had to sign a waiver. i don't think a dentist will even do that now.

	1:43pm Caryn: @fish: I've never had any pain killers or anaesthetic for dental procedures, so my only reference for those is YT clips of people being off their heads, and that 30 Rock episode where Liz is completely out of it. So it's just an added concern about the procedure: that I'm going to be completely crazy and make a fool of myself somewhat publicly.

	1:46pm Polyus: I just had a local, terrified of being put under. Plus it was over in 15 minutes.
	1:46pm Claw!: Caryn, I was really out of it after the surgery, thanks to all the delightful drugs. I was hitting on the nurses as I was coming to. Which I may have done anyway, but I would've attempted to use some tact, at least!

	1:48pm Cheri Pi: I was so over medicated after getting all 4 wisdom teeth out that we had to go back to the surgeon and bitch him out. Valium, Darvon and Vicodin on a 16 year old child, which of course I shared with all my friends as was the practice back then.

	1:48pm Chris from DC: Never took the drugs when I had my wisdom teeth out. That stuff scares me. Didn't take my vicodin when I broke my foot either. Maybe I have a high pain threshold.
	1:49pm Cheri Pi: yeah now I just take Ibuprofen for everything, I know way too many people who got hooked on 'oids from dental surgery.
	1:49pm Caryn: I've had some procedures done where I thought a local would be nice, but the dentist's been like "nah" and I suspect delighted in ripping little bits of my gums off without pain killers. It's really no wonder the students "affectionately" called the dentist Mengele.
	1:49pm common: took so many drugs before and after my back surgery. wonderful, but veeeeeerrrrrrry hard to quit.
	1:50pm coelacanth: anesthetics can do some serious permanent damage. now i lie to them that i've had bad experiences and to give me the minimum.

	1:52pm Chris from DC: I had anesthesia when I had my wisdom teeth out, and it took them an hour to bring me out of it. They gave me oxygen at one point.
	1:53pm Caryn: I suspect they're generally stingier with pain meds here than in the US. When I had my fall and lost all use of my arm for 2 weeks, the doc gave me a prescription for a pack of 20 ibuprofen pills. And we get no drugs for colonoscopies, which everyone seems to get knocked out for in the US.
	1:53pm d¢ pät: yeah I think they treat it as "one size fits all" mrs. dc pat cannot handle the normal dosages of drugs. Always requests minimizing it or she's sick the whole next day.

	1:21pm coe: Yeah I worked for a dental insureance company for a little while. I saw some crazy xrays of wisdome teeth. growing through sinus cavitites, perfectly horizontal stuff that truely looked faked.
	1:22pm Polyus: Yeah I assume they figured it wasn't going to trouble me, which it hasn't. My wisdom teeth were super-erupted, not impacted - maybe that makes a difference? They came out pretty easily.
	1:22pm coelacanth: i think i'll keep them,even though i have insurance now. it means i must be extremely diligent to keep those clean though,and it's hard to fit a toothbrush behind them.
	1:24pm Diane Kamikaze: Wow that is brutal. All of mine are out, one was problematic. When it was pulled (lower jaw) I kept my eyes closed for most of it, but there was a LOT of grunting, the nurse was holding my head --I opened my eyes once to see the dentist had his foot next to my head trying to get leverage. He practically flew across the room when it gave...I have some pretty strong choppers!
	1:24pm coelacanth: my upper ones came out easily- and the roots were pressing into my sinuses, giving me headaches.
	1:25pm chris: i was asleep during my wisdom teeth extraction, thankfully... after surgery, woke up, room still spinning... highly recommended

	1:26pm Caryn: @V: that "WHAT???" is my reaction to a T when she showed up in class a week after the surgery and explained the procedure. @fish: yeah, mine have been erupting for almost a decade now, and still half-covered by gum, meaning they're incredibly hard to keep clean, meaning two now have cavities in them. That's one of the reasons they're taking them out now.

	1:53pm Caryn: I suspect they're generally stingier with pain meds here than in the US. When I had my fall and lost all use of my arm for 2 weeks, the doc gave me a prescription for a pack of 20 ibuprofen pills. And we get no drugs for colonoscopies, which everyone seems to get knocked out for in the US.
