ARVO:

Greetings. I returned from picking up my pizza outside in time to hear the thrilling intro/reel sounds.

I saw THE BEYOND at a midnight sccreening last weekend and thought of ya. I have to get more Fabio Frizzi, or at least the essentials. Have a good show.

Waiting for a Pixar reimagining of “Stroszek.” Think about that for second… It’s doable.

We're imagining songs over here: "I'm Going to Wisconsin," sung by the whore, who is no longer a whore, but instead a cartoon "princess." ...

dan in wisconsin:

I love how they see Wisconsin as some golden land of opportunity in this movie. Bruno probably could've gotten some brewery work I'm thinking. Wow, what a depressing ending though. I can see how Ian Curtis might've been in a shit frame of mind after viewing it. Or is that just a rumor that it's the last film he watched?

  12:29am
JakeGould:

@sinisterdexter: No, I am not. There are tons of scenes that are pure comedy. And the end scenes with all of the animals in the arcade prancing around… In the Pixar version they could all go, “Hey! Where’s Bruno!” and they help him off of the ski lift… Also, the whole barbershop robbery is like a cartoon.

Got any songs about being fired by a boss who tries to steal your WFMU premium CDs and who is probably feasting upon the entrails of his other employees? Actually I'm alive, and nobody's feasting on my entrails, so what could be so bad? Hallelujah, praise Buddha.
  12:42am
JakeGould:

@Ike: Sorry to hear about that. Remember these words: Sometimes it takes 3 months for a crappy boss to realize they screwed up and attempt to hire you back. So if you can afford 1 month off, chill and take it easy. Then just find a new gig.

I could have mistaken the fella in the screenshot for the guy from The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser, which I have seen. Anyhow, this Stroszek movie is interesting. The promo poster on imdb says its "Terrifically, spontaneously funny".

So to me, “Stroszek” is just a fairy tale where this drunk, a prostitute and an old fart leave their home for the magical land of Wisconsin. It’s a dark fairy tale of what the western world is.

To me, you know whenever I walk around my part of non-hippster Brooklyn and I see old hunched over Asian women carrying inhumanly sized bags of redeemable bottles/cans I think… It’s like I live in another dimension than these folks… Their American experience is just another planet compared to anyone else… And I am the first American born of Eastern European immigrants, so I know somewhat about how the “promise” America is not the same as the reality for most… But not on that level…

@Jake@12:42, not happening in this case. The guy is a vindictive maniac anyway. I'd be worried he'd decapitate me, pull out my spine, and play it like a fiddle for blinking or breathing in the wrong direction. But I'm alive, so I'm going to party. And by "party," I mean eat some chocolate and listen to WFMU.

I do have to say, I'm surprised to see the first album by PIL being played, as opposed to the later stuff. I personally like the stuff that came after up until 1985 or so, and from there it gets more into the guilty pleasures department. I do want to say though, for those of you who listen to soul music, the label that reissued PIL also reissued Wendy Rene, a somewhat obscure soul singer who would be dead on the plane with the Bar-Kays if she didn't randomly decide to quit her career as a singer in the 70s. http://www.discogs.com/Wendy-Rene-After-Laughter-Comes-Tears-Complete-Stax-Volt-Singles-Rarities-1964-1965/master/417233

Wm. I definitely appreciate and understand the idea of trying to get into a set while posting song titles and things. I never agreed to do it when I was still on the radio. I needed to get spaced out in order to have a set I liked, but you already played more tracks than I'd ever play in 6 hours, usually.
  1:21am
JakeGould:

@Ike: Ken get’s a pass since he’s the “Wizard of Oz” of WFMU. But in life, I don’t like pranks past the age of 15. But will say this, my desire to get a pack of cigarette loads, go to a bar and setup someone’s cigarettes with one is pretty high.

I have to be honest, I haven't been blown away by anything by Herzog. I have not traversed more than 7 of his movies, but 7 is a lot right? I respect the guy, I like to hear him talk. I have no idea what his damage is, but whatever it is, I can relate to a man who only dreams once a year or something. I've been there. it's serious business, the guy is blocking out something like a ten ton shadow, and I will continue to casually watch his peculiar little movies on occasion.

PIL was always hit or miss for me. never a huge fan though. I think it s the voice. Lydon gets annoying for me. Like Biafra or Gen P. Org. . . it gets on my nerves after awhile. it susually the vocals that ruins a lot of music for me actually.
  2:17am

I thought I was the only one who looped giggling. :-(

“I recorded a woman's giggle for 10 hours…” Oooo! Should loop that so my neighbors can hear that.

I was trying to download 156 episodes of the Twilight Zone and it kicked me off the stream while Wm was talking. did someone say I was stoned? I would loop that. That's funny. I recently had a job interview where the woman absolutely would not believe that I was not high and could pass a drug test. She said "We do hair tests", and I said, you can do whatever you want with my hair, I'll be your gigolo."
