When I think of '85, "La Di Da Di" is a standout. I remember taking a class trip to the Bronx Zoo, and someone had this recorded off of KISS-FM when it came out, and blasted it on a boombox. 30 years on, still amazing!

interesting thing about "Ring the Alarm" is that the rhythm is from around 1970-71. They just voiced Tenor Saw on it some 15 years later. Took off.

I'd like to think the Kirkwoods would applaud that transition.

Ego Trip picked the "La Di Da Di"/"The Show" single as the best hiphop single of '85, but you really can't hate on most of the list:

It's always nice hearing old hits on FMU. No compression and maximizing like when you hear it on a major station, it sounds like listening to the record! Also, it's a great song...
  10:17am
Nate K:

Well played.
  10:17am
mark:

Kate Bush is such a major talent. I liked her double album "Ariel" a lot--dealing with being a wife and mother. It was absolutely gorgeous, but nobody bought it but me, I don't think. Saw an excellent documentary about her from the BBC I think. Didn't realize she was so young when she started.
  10:19am
mark:

Like your painting today. The macaws or whatever are looking at the skull club thingie all, "What up, dude?" And then you wonder if Mr. Skelyton is going to bash 'em over the head with that club. But then you say, "No, wait, it's just a drawring." There's a lot to think about there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am
Andrew Waterloo:

Interesting Puppy choice.
  10:22am

When I was working in a record store around '85/'86 kids would come in and ask for Skinny Puppy and I didn't know wtf they were talking about. I was already too old to be working there.

Saw gobs of bands in 85. Remember giving This Nation's Saving Grace lots of turntable time (hint hint).
