Hi Rich and amEdeo! And whaddaya know, T is the first letter of T. Rex!

@UM: Though to be fair, they call Jul 22 (22. 7) Approximation Day, after 22/7.
  12:50am
JakeGould:

Oh fuck. It’s “Pi” day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am
Uncle Michael:

They really call it that?
Avatar 12:52am
Matt from Springfield:

Yes Jake! The day where you learn that "those" people like me are "those" people!!

Circumference over diameter - but WFMU over everything!!

JakeGould:

Unfortunately it is. www.piday.org
Avatar 12:53am
Matt from Springfield:

@UM: I've read that term for July, though I've never actually heard a European use it. Then again modern man is all about decimal places of Pi, the rough approximation gets short shrift in this metric/calculator era.

That's fine Jake, not everyone is ready for full-Pi immersion, but I know that Pi exists whether you believe in it or not... ;)

Hi Caryn! Happy 3.14! Or 14.3, which *must* occur somewhere in the Pi sequence..
Avatar 1:07am
Matt from Springfield:

$180 is a good amount -- as you've shown it's the first really "important" level. No mere single premium, that's where you start to get SERIOUS love back from FMU!

@Caryn, you have to sleep sometime! You've gotta skip SOMETHING, so what's it going to be? I'll probably skip a good chunk of Sat. and Sun. morning/afternoon to keep my sanity. You?
  1:29am
JakeGould:

@Ike, it should be rainy in NYC this weekend so… Zzzzzzz…
Avatar 1:31am
Caryn:

@Ike: well, as I said, I slept for 2 hours during Martha's show. And I'll get little 5-10 minute catnaps during some shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31am
Ike:

That's great news for FMU! More pledges come in when the weather is bad. (And I might stay in and listen to archives of the marathon shows I've missed so far. But not much live on Sat.)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33am
Ike:

@Caryn, do you sleep a lot less during the 'thon (I used to do that) or are you always an insomniac or troubled sleeper and/or catnapper?
Avatar 1:35am
Caryn:

@Ike: the Marathon is an endurance test for me. I will sacrifice most sleep for 2 weeks to commit fully to the Marathon experience. I suspect I will sleep through most of Monday once the H&M Sinfonia ends.
Avatar 1:36am
Ryab:

I've been losing sleep for FMU too. Hooked the first hour I was on. Pledged in the first two. So great. <3
Avatar 1:37am
Matt from Springfield:

Just don't overdo it Caryn, 100% commitment to WFMU can be expressed in other ways than 100% commitment to every show!
Avatar 1:38am
Caryn:

But this year I am visiting relatives next weekend, so I can't listen in then, so I'll sadly have a less-than-perfect listening marathon. But I guess I'll also catch some more Zs then. I will be home before the H&M starts, though. I made sure of that.

Ahh, the Inflatable Boy Clams! How marvelous their quirky songs are! Over 4 years ago I first learned about DIY-San Francisco Bay Area-No Wave-Girl Punk from WFMU playing them! I've since DLed all 5! tracks of their only EP off a music blog!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55am
Ike:

Midnight-3 is sometimes better than 3-6 or 6-9 because of most of the Europeans aren't awake yet (save for Caryn)! Most of the Give the Drummer shows also seem like great hunting grounds for prizes. I don't do much prize vulturing anymore myself, though.
Avatar 1:55am
Matt from Springfield:

The duo Noh Mercy is a more radical, sharp-edged group from that very same scene, also learned from WFMU! Also worth a listen!
Avatar 1:58am
Matt from Springfield:

Good point, Ike. Some shows 3-6 attract more Europeans, but sometimes Dark Night of the Soul was also pretty dry before 5, despite its Europe/Australia popularity. Now I intend to pledge to the shows I do beforehand, I've divided my budget, but I do try timing those to win a preferred prize! :)

Matt from Springfield:

Has anyone tried playing "Snoteleks" backwards on Turntable 3?? Very conceptual...
Avatar 2:02am
Caryn:

@JakeGould: thanks! Wonka's forward roll was of course an ad lib by Gene Wilder, genius that he is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02am
Guido from Cologne:

Napoleon XIV involved in this production?
Avatar 2:04am
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: Really, ad-libbed? GENIUS!!

Gene Wilder can get away with stuff like that--a bigger Hollywood star/leading man type would probably be insured too much to try sudden acrobatics!
Avatar 2:04am
Caryn:

28 pledges so far, 3 prizes won. I never do well with these, so it's a treat if I manage to get something.
  2:05am
JakeGould:

Kudos Caryn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06am
Guido from Cologne:

YEEEEYYY!
Avatar 2:06am
Caryn:

@Matt: yeah, the limp was an ad lib too. Wilder felt that the fake limp and roll would succinctly show exactly who Wonka was and that you couldn't trust anything he did.
Avatar 2:06am
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: This is more your "department", but I'm listening now while watching a TV playing the Looney Tunes cartoon "What's Opera Doc?" It's no "Longhair Hare" but you can see Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny in Viking costume performing opera together. Good juxta! :)
