You know, a little jazz wouldn't kill this station now and then. Nice set so far, Irwin. Big fan of your show in general.

"In general"? Faint praise, I call that.

Yo Irwin!

Allow me to clarify, then: In addition to liking this particular set, I always like Irwin's show.

In defense of Brian Williams: human memory is provably fallible and also malleable in ways that most people may not realize. It's entirely possible, maybe even likely, that he really is misremembering and not "lying" (for which he's been pilloried and his life destroyed).

I'm no special fan or friend of the man one way or another. I'm just sayin'.

What is this music over which you are speaking, Mr. DJ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm

Moondog - "Caribea" (looped)
  3:46pm
Laura L:

Who you callin' looped.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
rrg:

Ah. Thank you. In retrospect it had to be either Moondog or...I don't know, maybe some old European 78 from the 1930s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
rrg:

Loopin' Lizards, it's Laura L. Hi, LL.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm
Irwin:

Moondog recorded "Caribea" in 1956. He did make some 78s, but I don't know if those Prestige tracks originally appeared in that format.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm

This one's for Laura!

How about "grim," Flubby. Does "grim" apply?

Insert joke here about Kanye taking Charles Ives' Grammy away, because the KANYE JOKES NEVER STOP. Seriously, that well will NEVER GO DRY. "Central Park in the Dark" + Kanye talking over it = pure gold.

Which Grammy did he take? Maternal or paternal?

"A Pact with God" (the remix) was the first Joe Frank show I ever heard....KCRW, 1997. This was the underscore for most of the remix: www.youtube.com...

Assume that I don't pay attention to much of anything (which is true) and tell me why everyone is making jokes about Kanye West. What did he do? I mean, what new thing?

RRG, Kanye was busy being himself, I believe most recently at those grammy awards thingies telecast. I just saw AC/DC and then cut out, so I know as much as you do. Well, I do have daughters who serve me as "reality filters".

Dean:

Union! Rather, Torff of Union! Glad you found it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm

Thanks, Dean. Some of their stuff was a bit too "well-mannered" for my tastes, but I liked the percussion and bass tracks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm

Thanks for another fine program, Irwin. I like the Byrds stuff that you've been playing recently. And other stuff as well.

It's dinner time, and it looks like there's bacon tonight. Bye, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm

RRG: The short version of what Kanye did recently can be summed up thusly: Mercury. Venus. The Kanye West Show, With Special Guest Stars The Human Race. Mars. Asteroid Belt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm
Sem Chumbo:

Been lovely, Irwin, the Devil pillowcase notwithstanding. See you next time.
  5:56pm
Dean:

Indeed, Hobgood is refined in ways that, say, Keith Jarret on a good night is not. There is definitely a whiff of stereotypical ECM about the Union records, but I'm not entirely averse to stereotypical ECM. Weird to think that the drummer, Paul Wertico, was one of two on the Derek Bailey/Pat Metheny record!
  5:57pm
Laura L:

Thanks, Irwin.
