I saw a recipe for combining spinach and nutmeg in a "divine puree," but I say combine Monk notes and a full set of Oblique Strategies in the blender with a touch of gin and mint. Or yogurt and berries.

I think Bert was an A&R guy at Decca over in Europe and had something to do with the Beatles NOT being signed to the label. Maybe someone can look that up.

Does anyone really listen to this crap? I love FMU and have donated, but a rambling monolog and dial a prayer? Really?
  4:46pm
JakeGould:

I have a GIF that should be used as a show image on some show: aka: The best GIF on Earth. i.imgur.com...
  4:47pm
JakeGould:

Bobo, yes… I like Joe Frank… And you listen to WFMU for a mix of things. The stuff you like and the stuff you don’t. There are 168 hours in a week. Deal with it.
  4:49pm
Bobo:

I do deal with it. Just wondering if anyone could stand to listen to that crap in its entirety. A looped sample and the "voice through the megaphone" sound for that extra poseur quality. Yikes.

Get a registered account, Bobo. Then we can have a reasonable discussion.
  4:50pm
Robert:

I there a collection somewhere of unfavorable reviews of WFMU material? It should be a riot. (No reviews of Kenny G, because that'd be cheating.)
  4:50pm
Bobo:

OK, agreed. But the Dial-a-prayer thing? Pure stupidity.
  4:51pm
unregistered defender:

Bobo is obviously far too sophisticated for this.
  4:51pm

Bobo, Dial-A-Clue.
  4:52pm
Robert:

Bobo, would you at least agree Joe Frank blows Ken Nordine out of the water?
  4:52pm

Do you listen to the Dial-a-prayer ironically, whilst stroking your mustache over an artisanal bratwurst?

I did change the channel, checked back in a few times.
  4:57pm
berbo:

See what happens to people who eat bratwurst?
Avatar 4:57pm
Bear549:

(could someone pass the bratwurst?)
  5:00pm
Bobo:

I only eat it ironically whilst listening to a tape loop, and smoking a bidi near my ukelele collection. I did this way before you ever heard of bratwurst.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm
Irwin:

Bobo: I can't listen to WFMU 60% of the time -- and I WORK here. No one can enjoy every program. Call it the "diversity dilemma."
  5:02pm
Bobo:

Peace. I'm just joking a bit.
  5:06pm
ScottC:

ya see - what ya gotta do is dull the impulse. The impulse to grab your throat and just pull out as much skin as you can in one move. Then once you dull that impulse you are left with the conundrum "what to do - what to do". days, weeks, years of insane frustrations well up spill out. You studder and spew and WANT relief - "It's OK you fuckt up but we know who you really are so we forgive you because we know that you are good - and kind" But that never happens because - you, you realize are extremely narcissistic and of course nobody is giving you and your predicament on second of thought. So you wake up the next day and try and dull the impulse to grab your throat and rip out as much....
  5:06pm
Robert:

Irwin, you've PLAYED Ken Nordine, and don't you agree Joe Frank blows him out of the water? On avg., neither of them having the wind behind them, I mean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm
Irwin:

I prefer Joe, but their artistry is very different. I suspect Joe was influenced by Nordine's early Word Jazz LPs.

Bobo, I want you to start a stream called “WFMBOBO: All Bobo, All the Time.”
  5:14pm
Robert:

I suspect so too. I just think the student beat his master.
  5:17pm
Bobo:

I can start by ironically sampling preachers' sermons then playing them at 3/4 speed over the sound of pennies rotating in a clothes dryer. This will go on for at least 76 minutes.
  5:21pm
Bobo:

Then it will be a seven year old girl reading the Joy of Cooking aloud, starting from the title page and continuing through appetizers. This will be intercut with sounds of breaking glass recorded on a wax cylinder, and artfully punctuated with fake sitcom laughter.
  5:21pm
berbo:

Bobo,
You've got to dig it to dig it, you dig?
  5:21pm
Robert:

Bob, just because some of the jokes are cheap doesn't mean they're not funny. Recently a friend has played for me several times recorded prank calls by someone who has a good file of Arnold Schwarzenegger clips, and I can listen & crack up to those again & again.
  5:22pm
Bobo:

You won't get the full impact of either peace until about 30 or so minutes into them, provided you're listening at a loud volume in a windowless room.
  5:23pm
Dean:

Not so fast there with the Joy of Cooking routine. Early '80s a band I rehearsed with and played in did a Van Halen take-off with lyrics from a book of recipes. "Crab meat Baltimore | Serves four..."
  5:26pm
Bobo:

Next piece is called "Workday" and it's the ambient recording of all sounds inside a single Manhattan office building elevator from 9am to 5pm. Every hour will be punctuated by the bleating of a sheep being slaughtered.
Avatar 5:26pm
northguineahills:

@glenn: The first time I played at WFMU, Prof Dum Dum followed my friend's program. It was during the record fair, so only one studio was optional. I'd never heard of Prof Dum Dum before, and he was very adamant we vacate the studio (my band had a lot of equipment) before his show started so he could get in character. It was rather abrupt and bizarre.

Every singer/actor in the world does that.
You never played one of my songs since june, july which is when the you created a monster came around.
I mean did Michal jackson get treated that way? Did Justin bieber get treat ed that way? No!
I want you to think long and hard about that.
