Well, like all statistics, you've gotta put this in perspective, the current USDA calculation of the average cost of raising a child to age 18 in America , NOT including college tuition & costs, is about $245,000. So as a perentage surcharge for mischief-generated expenses, it's not so significant.
And I wouldn't be surprised if the total bill for Lego and electronic toys & gizmos for my 2 nephews approaches the 15 grand mark by the time they're in high school...

Caryn, no respect for Shelly Winters as Ma Parker?

For shame
Avatar 7:26am
Caryn:

@BGZ: nah. The idea had been originally to make a movie to kick off the whole series, and a script was written before the series. But in the end, they decided against that idea, and decided to film the movie during the summer hiatus between seasons 1 and 2. I suspect mostly because 20th Century Fox didn't want to spend money on a movie before knowing how the series would be received.

P-90:

@BGZ: Oh, oops, Caryn just posted the answer... The movie was a quickie rushed into production the summer after the show was a hit, to cash in at the box office, and even more to propel merchandising revenues, which were turning out to be staggering. That's why the movie was constructed to introduce the Bat-Boat, Bat-Copter, Bat-Vibrating Relaxing Deep Massager, and all that crap, to provide things to use in/as/on models, Corgi toys, puzzles, games, pajamas, and all that jazz...big, big bucks, that kind of merch blitz was NOT de rigeur biz as usual yet, and it's easy to underestimate the hugeness of the Bat-Craze after the show arrived.
  7:37am

@Caryn: Oh, yeah, dear Madge Blake! I think she turned down $15,000 to pose for Playboy, a considerable sum in those days

They were gonna FIRE Aunt Harriet? Something I did NOT know, that would've been a big, stupid mistake, a blasphemous miscarriage. I once heard "bacon and eggs" used to define the difference between *involved* and *committed*. The chicken was involved, the pig was committed.
