I'm stoked!

Rich, cool stuff. Have you gone to the Art Book Fair at PS1 at all? Still on tomorrow if you haven’t checked it out. Some cool stuff.

rich:

no haven't been yet jake. went to the dumbo arts festival, some nice art but way too crowded.

Drooler:

I miss The Squirrable Inflation Morass. Rich, you're the man, and then some (ATS).
  12:25am
JakeGould:

Rich, I agree. I went to the Dumbo arts fest last year & hated it. It was too crowded to enjoy anything. At the Art Book Fair there are some nice exhibits of Fugs zines as well as an exhibit of Lenny Kaye’s sci-fii zine collection from the early 1960s. Picked up this book of the exhibit. Fairly amazing stuff. store.boo-hooray.com...

Ex Cathedra while watching silent footage of the volcano erupting in Japan. Perfect soundtrack.

P-90:

@JakeG: Wow. I hadn't heard about this 9the LK book). Is it as much fun as it looks?
  12:49am
JakeGould:

P-90: Yes it is! I own a copy. If you like old seminal sci-fi zine art, you need to get it. And in the intro Lenny Kaye explains how the whole world of sci-fi zines worked for him & how he was really a well known quantity, but then got bored with it & became a musician. Great stuff.

JakeGould:

“Boo-Hooray presents The Tattooed Dragon Meets The Wolfman – the science fiction fanzine collection of Lenny Kaye, member of The Patti Smith Group, legendary compiler of Nuggets, music historian, and a once-teenage SF fanzine editor/publisher/contributor. Ranging from 1941 to 1969, these fanzines represent ground zero for the zine explosion that was to come years later in rock, punk, skate, fashion, and art. Primarily published on mimeograph machines, science-fiction fanzines were initially small-run circulars traded amongst fans that offered criticism, letters to the editor, and gossip from the 1930s up until digital. This visionary amateur art is outside the realm of anything we’ve ever seen.” nyartbookfair.com...

@JakeGould Thanks for the info, just bought a book.

That book does look pretty good. JG should get a commission on extra sales.

Was watching bits of the video on YouTube. It's a little strange for me because I was born in '62 the year it was made. Also visited Croatia about 15 years ago not long after the war. It was a little surreal.

JakeGould:

If you go to the NY Art Book Fair you can basically see all—and i mean ALL—of Lenny Kaye’s collection in person. It’s stunning in person.
  1:37am

That does sound cool. NY is a l o n g way from here.

rw, yes they are; there's quite a few other films on YouTube also. Mr. Vukotic was a very busy man.

There was a British-made series called "The International Festival of Animation" or something like that which came to PBS in the late 70s-early 80's. The Studio Zagreb shorts probably accounted for half the total material in the series. And there was Bruno Bozzetto's stuff from Italy, some National Film Board of Canada stuff, and so forth.

...and there it is. Yes P-90 Jean Marsh hosted that show.

P-90:

@Fleep: That's the one. If you remember it, it was loaded with the Zagreb stuff, it was like their major introduction in the West.
