I almost drove under a lowering railroad barrier to get home for this show. Hit the Webstream seconds before it started!

wow, you weren't kidding about the repeating notes!
  8:16pm
Robert:

That's what you get when the pianist has a tremor.

Or is playing in the back of a pickup truck on a gravel road...

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...interesting as precursor to modern electronic sturf (sequencers?) w/ lotsa repeating patterns all sorts - if that's not too obvious (& perhaps even so)...

ranjit:

I saw Vicki Chow playing a Tristan Perich piece last night - she was machinegunning notes even faster than this piece. For almost an hour!
  8:19pm
Robert:

Seriously, though, I wonder whether to do that you have to be able to move the finger that fast, or alternate adjacent fingers on the same key.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
maestroso:

@Robert, alternate fingers is the way to go generally.

Robert:

Years ago I wondered whether the background to "We Belong" was done manually or synthetically, with its rapid repeating notes.

How rare is it that the interpretation is better than the original?

...reminded (more 1st in this set) of Glass saying Ravi Shankar was a revelation when he told him that in Indian music every note gets equal emphasis...
  8:26pm
Robert:

Maybe Indians were used to composing for & playing instruments where it's hard to vary the emphasis.

...I dunno (?); the only time I fiddled w/ a sitar - it made my guitar seem a brick by comparison...maybe it's the trance/meditation tradition...

Robert:

I know what you mean, Bethany. It's like applauding at a movie -- for who, the projectionist?
  8:34pm
Robert:

Actually for us listening to the radio or stream, it's like that all the time. It's not like I can get on here & give plaudits every time someone on WFMU pleases me, yet overall you people have brought me joy for years.
