I keep going back 'n' forth on versions of this song -- Tracey, Kirsty, Tracey, Kirsty...
  12:11am
Noah:

great tunes so far
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am
pacific standard simon:

The mandolin on Kirsty's version is really nice.
  12:12am
JakeGould:

I like all versions of “They Don't Know.” Also, is this playlist 1980s summer boardwalk music? Not complaining, yo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am
pacific standard simon:

This playlist is taking me back to hot summer nights in Kansas, 1981. Getting my new wave news from Tom Snyder and KJHK.
Avatar 12:14am
KP:

i heard a country cover of They Dont Know About Us by Lydia Loveless on another station. It was nice.
  12:14am
P-90:

Good Morning T!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am
pacific standard simon:

OK, that's different!
  12:21am
JakeGould:

In 1981 I was in JHS getting my new wave tips from the slightly rich kids in neighboring Manhattan Beach—I live in Brighton Beach—who would have relatives who worked for record labels. Also had a cool JHS math teacher who would reward students with 7 inch singles… Like Joan Jett & Adam Ant stuff. Damn… Wistful!
  12:23am
JakeGould:

It’s official. Summer boardwalk playlist.

Wow. In '81 I was getting new wave from Rodney on the ROQ. In '83 I was college radio DJ on KJHK in Lawrence.
  12:31am
JakeGould:

PSS, screw your olde timey crap! New wave is here to stay!
  12:32am
Steve-O:

Hi Therese. BTW, has anybody ever called you Theresa by mistake? Just curious. =)
Avatar 12:33am
BadGuyZero:

I've done that before. The IT guy said it was a one-dee-ten-tee error.
Avatar 12:33am
KP:

Ok. i vowed never to tell this but at recent record fair i bought a Kirsty MacColl single. As the guy was writing it up I mentioned I had seen her do the song on the record. He asked if i thought she would soon be touring again.
  12:36am
Cameron:

evening all, super into tonight's music so far
  12:38am
JakeGould:

One-dee-ten-tee error? Huh? Wha happened?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am
pacific standard simon:

@rw - I left Lawrence in '82. That was a great station. I used to hang out at Exile Records, because the lady who worked there would play any request.
  12:41am
P-90:

1 - D - 10 - T ?
  12:43am
JakeGould:

@P-90: Okay, that is amazeballs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am
pacific standard simon:

Can a hot pants song medley be far away?
  12:52am
rw:

PSS: I guess we just missed each other. I've got a few LP's with that Exile Records stamp on the label. My shifts tended to be midnight to 3:00 or 3:00 to 6:00am. One of the more fun things I've done in my life.
Avatar 12:56am
BadGuyZero:

I thought the Gold-Bears track was a new New Pornagraphers track.
Avatar 12:58am

By the way...I can't spell "pornographers" correctly.

Uncle Michael (from Topeka) on the Give The Drummer Radio webstream has some Lawrence memories as well. We compared notes and found that we had been at several of the same shows in the early '80s.

Oh, and I did a big price list poster in yellow, red & blue for Exile, in exchange for a pile of records! :)
  1:11am
rw:

Don't know Uncle Michael. I will have to download some shows to the phone for my commute. I'm sure I saw your poster in the store but it's a little foggy. Well, more than a little foggy. Small world, this.

I went to their website I think they are great!!
  1:32am
rw:

Yes. There should be some sort of applause button on this ap.
  1:35am

If someone ever makes a new HAPPY DAYS show I think that song "fingers crossed" would make the absolute best theme song for it !!!
Avatar 1:36am
BadGuyZero:

One of my favorite INXS songs!
  1:37am
coalhard:

Wasn't that show based on a New Jersey family or were they mid-west??
  1:38am
Dan in Milwaukee:

this band is awesome, this set is awesome
  1:39am
Cameron:

I think, Milwaukee. Awesome live set!!
Avatar 1:42am
BadGuyZero:

Yes. Happy Days was set in Milwaukee as was Laverne & Shirley until the later seasons when they moved to California.
  1:42am
coalhard:

Fonzie jumped the shark in Milwaukee??--no you are right it was old mill
  1:45am
coalhard:

that by the way is where often used term "jumped the shark" came from
  1:47am
coalhard:

he jumped the shark then show was cancelled for other reasons--hence the term
  1:47am
JakeGould:

When he jumped the shark, it was just stupid & a side-effect of a show gasping for a premise.

TRIVIA: The guy that was the vocalist for Survivor when they recorded "Eye Of The Tiger" is the guy that sings on the Budweiser "Real Amercian Heroes/Real Men of Genius" radio commercials.

nobunny sleeps:

..okay: wutta coinkinkydink; someone gave me a Bud I wouldn't drink otherwise...it's hot & almost nothin' - whynot; you gotta drink Bud sometimes to see if it really is that bad...It has a flavor actually, tho' think of it as almost water...a bland featureless flavor, no cheap character like PBR (ricewater w/ a cheap teabag of hops dipped in it) - like MOR music or a typical American sitcom; they admit the rice right on the label...
Avatar 2:28am
BadGuyZero:

"Jason Takes Manhattan" was VIII.
  2:28am
JakeGould:

That is a fear of Triscuits.
  2:29am
P-90:

Yes, fear of the number 13.
  2:29am

You are right Therese!
Avatar 2:29am

You are correct about triskaidekaphobia.
  2:30am

Triscuits scare the heck out of me.
  2:32am
P-90:

@ DJ Therese: you did mean Giocchino Rossini the opera composer? You said "RossinO" by mistake i think.

"Joe-KEEN-o Ro-SEE-nee"
  2:34am
coalhard:

I fear mason jars I think they call it E-colicanaphobia
  2:35am
P-90:

nom de plume?
  2:37am
nobunny sleeps:

...if triscuits have been in the cupboard too long & have maggots - it's hard to tell in that hard grainy mesh...
  2:37am
coalhard:

I never canned plumes--but will look into it
  2:39am
JakeGould:

Coalhard, I like mason jars. They have measuring notches on the side, That is the best.
  2:43am
coalhard:

james mason came up with that idea that time he went deep into the earth
  2:46am
coalhard:

i'm in my pj's don't have to use capital letters if I don't want--I go without punctuation If I get nude later
  2:48am
P-90:

Yeah, and NO one has ever pronounced "triskaideckaphobia" like James Mason did, the word became a sonata in the man's mouth
  2:51am
P-90:

Dave the Spazz has been known to play James Mason's classic radio ad spot for Thunderbird Wine. Even all these years later, it has the power to make me almost want to drink some of that shit
  2:54am
coalhard:

The very first movie I saw at a theater was premier of 20,000 leagues under the sea with james mason in theater in new jersey
Avatar 2:56am
BadGuyZero:

I don't recall who it was, but I saw a comedian on TV do a bit about James Mason trying to use an expired coupon at Dunkin Donuts. It was tremendous.
  2:57am
coalhard:

and can you believe it kirk douglas is still alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2:57am
P-90:

coalhard: You and James went to a movie in New Jersey?
  2:59am
coalhard:

no it was Jason mars I went with not to be cornfused with mason jars
  2:59am
Steve-O:

Anyway, Therese, great show today, as usual. Lookin' forward to see what Ning-Nong has to offer. =)
  2:59am
