Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
Tom Verlaine's playing a moment ago was very cool, if I may say so. Frisell-ish. Will have to seek that out, thanks Gaylord. Great start all-around on a lovely Sunday eve!
I don't like taking half measures. I'm not going to do comments if I'm not prepared to devote to them. That's why I've resisted until I was absolutely ready.
@ Gaylord:
Thanks for wading into the "comments" thing so good-naturedly even though it's not your idea of an ideal approach to doing a radio show. What really matters is that it's the same great show ON THE AIR every week, with or without the inclusion of "Comments."
@P-90: Thanks for understanding that I didn't want to do comments if I thought it would compromise my show. I've gotten comfortable enough with doing it now that I'm not worried about that anymore.
