	12:08pm still b/p: Over the weekend an acquaintance told of her 4 or 5 year old daughter's current tattoo fascination. Insisted on setting up a tattoo shop at home, insisted on Mom's help in drumming up business, and for one of her first marker-ink designs, put some bacon on someone's skin.

	12:12pm Carmichael: Tony, actually I'm visiting universities with my daughters (U of O, OSU and Southern Or), and a brother lives nearby. The deader ones are up in Aberdeen, where I'm also going. I can't decide if this Esperanto is minimalist or a cartoon soundtrack.
	12:13pm Rich in Washington: Now you know why Esperanto never set the world on fire. You greet people with the word 'fartas' in it.

	12:15pm Rich in Washington: I don't know if you were one of the people whose brain I picked in this; but a few years back some other folks and I were planning an all-Esperanto set but all of the music we found was uniformly dull, so we scrapped the project.

	12:16pm davex: The inventor of Esperanto, Zamenhof, did live in Lithuania for a while, so there's that.
	12:16pm Rich in Washington: I never, ever saw anyone light a fart on fire until I was an adult and my (then) wife's uncle came over for a barbecue. I guess he was infamous in the family for doing that.
	12:17pm Tony Coulter: @ Rich: You didn't ask -- but I wouldn't have been able to help anyway. All I know about is William Shatner's great Esperanto horror movie.
	12:19pm Rich in Washington: I still haven't seen that. Any good?
	12:20pm Tony Coulter: I think it's quite good -- very atmospheric. And Shatner isn't in hammy mode -- perhaps it's harder to be hammy in Esperanto.

	12:25pm northguineahills: Just made some Habanero hot sauce from scratch. I put some pears, carrots, tomatoes, garlic, worcestershire sauce, unrefined brown sugar, cayenne, caramelized lime juice, and dark rum. It came out quite nice.

	12:26pm Rich in Washington: Love Hillages stuff. Really good psychedelic hold out music. I also think his Rainbow Dome Music is an underrated ambient classic.
	12:26pm Carmichael: I met Steve Hillage once at a party full of music industry ass-kissers. I had no idea who he was at the time, and he seemed rather pleased.

	12:29pm Rich in Washington: @Carmichael: I've been in the presence of semi-famous people quite a few times, without knowing at the time who they were. It's a funny experience. A few times, it seems like it bothers them or that you're being aloof or disrespectful or something.
	12:29pm Tony Coulter: I am a member of the Hillage Preservation Society.
	12:29pm Dean: Rainbow Dome Music and, to some extent, Green, are typically regarded as pioneers of the tech/trance genres. Hillage is brilliant, no doubt. I would love to meet him. A friend of mine and former guitarist for Switzerland's prog outfit Flame Dream met him in London back in the '80s. Report is he was cool.
	12:32pm Rich in Washington: Just recently spotted Emo Phillips on the street. I was standing in front of the building that he was staying at, adjoined by KBOO studios. I was smoking out front. He sort of looked at me and I recognized him. He looked like he needed peace - but that's how he always looks, so I just nodded at him and kept smoking my cigarette. It was like spotting a deer or sasquatch in the woods.

	12:38pm Dean: Fish Rising is fantastic, as is the contemporary Gong stuff ("You," for instance). I love Khan, too, and didn't GTDR not long ago spin some stuff from Arzachel? Hillage must have been about 14 at the time!

	12:42pm still b/p: I saw Emo doing his standup in Boston many years ago, and remember 1) the drunky woman nearby who complained loudly and at length about how awful Emo was, and 2) the guy who was tossing comments at the stage until Emo engaged him directly with some heckler-shut-off stuff, and the guy took off his coat and put it on the back of his chair in an ,"oh, it's ON now" fashion and said something in a Kermit the Frog voice. He seemed to be a hopeless douchey mook who regarded this direct attention as a chance to show how wonderfully funny, talented and ready he was, the way someone else would welcome a sudden invitation to come up and play drums for a band.

	12:52pm V Priceless: if I'm not mistaken, Zep did support Spirit when they first toured the US. Rumour has it Bonzo developed his "hands on" drumming approach from seeing Ed Cassidy do it. Interesting.

	1:02pm still b/p: I listened to Spirit yesterday, and while the one recurring portion is nearly identical to Stairway, the rest of it is different enough that I'd be surprised if they reach a legal win. If they do, there so many countless songs with at least that level of identifiable similarity to something else that everybody and his recorded-something brother should be flinging suits all over the place.

	1:51pm Dean: Congrats to you. The one dud I recall was when Kim Gordon played with someone-or-other. Everything about the performance was so bad it was good. But the regulars were not having it, nosiree. I seem to recall Michael Rosenstein of Cadence fuming. Rosenstein is a terrific writer, but the irony was palpable. I mean, this is FIMAV, no limits. But in fact there are limits, and Kim Gordon (truly, truly abysmal performance) tested one.
	1:53pm still b/p: Uncle Michael, I will probably be away from the radio this Friday, so if there's something important like, you know, a Jerry Vale tribute, being cooked up, maybe you could wait until, you know, the following week.
	1:53pm Andrew Waterloo: I talked to a guy while in line to see Gravity about the Haino trio the night before and he said he walked out, he basically said "I was waiting for something to happen and realized that I wasn't seeing the intro" and nearly asked him why he'd come to FIMAV at all.
	1:55pm Dean: So many FIMAV stories... And then Vision Festival right on its heels!
	1:56pm Andrew Waterloo: Yah, my next festival will probably be Guelph.
	1:57pm Dean: Still haven't made it there, but I used to chat with Ajay at FIMAV quite a bit. Try to catch shows in Montreal at Casa del Popolo, too. Not sure when they're next mounting a festival, but according to a friend there it's a winner.

	2:00pm Tony Coulter: In the '90s, I went to see the revamped version of Daevid Allen's Gong. Guy behind me thought it was going to be Pierre Moerlen's fusion version and wouldn't stop bitching.

	12:08pm still b/p: Over the weekend an acquaintance told of her 4 or 5 year old daughter's current tattoo fascination. Insisted on setting up a tattoo shop at home, insisted on Mom's help in drumming up business, and for one of her first marker-ink designs, put some bacon on someone's skin.

	12:12pm Carmichael: Tony, actually I'm visiting universities with my daughters (U of O, OSU and Southern Or), and a brother lives nearby. The deader ones are up in Aberdeen, where I'm also going. I can't decide if this Esperanto is minimalist or a cartoon soundtrack.

	12:15pm Rich in Washington: I don't know if you were one of the people whose brain I picked in this; but a few years back some other folks and I were planning an all-Esperanto set but all of the music we found was uniformly dull, so we scrapped the project.

	12:16pm davex: The inventor of Esperanto, Zamenhof, did live in Lithuania for a while, so there's that.

	12:20pm Tony Coulter: I think it's quite good -- very atmospheric. And Shatner isn't in hammy mode -- perhaps it's harder to be hammy in Esperanto.

	12:25pm northguineahills: Just made some Habanero hot sauce from scratch. I put some pears, carrots, tomatoes, garlic, worcestershire sauce, unrefined brown sugar, cayenne, caramelized lime juice, and dark rum. It came out quite nice.

	12:29pm Rich in Washington: @Carmichael: I've been in the presence of semi-famous people quite a few times, without knowing at the time who they were. It's a funny experience. A few times, it seems like it bothers them or that you're being aloof or disrespectful or something.

	12:29pm Dean: Rainbow Dome Music and, to some extent, Green, are typically regarded as pioneers of the tech/trance genres. Hillage is brilliant, no doubt. I would love to meet him. A friend of mine and former guitarist for Switzerland's prog outfit Flame Dream met him in London back in the '80s. Report is he was cool.
	12:32pm Rich in Washington: Just recently spotted Emo Phillips on the street. I was standing in front of the building that he was staying at, adjoined by KBOO studios. I was smoking out front. He sort of looked at me and I recognized him. He looked like he needed peace - but that's how he always looks, so I just nodded at him and kept smoking my cigarette. It was like spotting a deer or sasquatch in the woods.

	12:42pm still b/p: I saw Emo doing his standup in Boston many years ago, and remember 1) the drunky woman nearby who complained loudly and at length about how awful Emo was, and 2) the guy who was tossing comments at the stage until Emo engaged him directly with some heckler-shut-off stuff, and the guy took off his coat and put it on the back of his chair in an ,"oh, it's ON now" fashion and said something in a Kermit the Frog voice. He seemed to be a hopeless douchey mook who regarded this direct attention as a chance to show how wonderfully funny, talented and ready he was, the way someone else would welcome a sudden invitation to come up and play drums for a band.

But the regulars were not having it, nosiree. I seem to recall Michael Rosenstein of Cadence fuming. Rosenstein is a terrific writer, but the irony was palpable. I mean, this is FIMAV, no limits. But in fact there are limits, and Kim Gordon (truly, truly abysmal performance) tested one.
	1:53pm still b/p: Uncle Michael, I will probably be away from the radio this Friday, so if there's something important like, you know, a Jerry Vale tribute, being cooked up, maybe you could wait until, you know, the following week.
	1:53pm Andrew Waterloo: I talked to a guy while in line to see Gravity about the Haino trio the night before and he said he walked out, he basically said "I was waiting for something to happen and realized that I wasn't seeing the intro" and nearly asked him why he'd come to FIMAV at all.
