I can't get over the fact that EVERY single time some one calls our normal phone at home and gets the answering machine, they start talking to the out-going message, like "Hello? Hello? Yes this is....Hello?" Are people becoming dumber or more deaf?

Hilarious, DC Pat! I'm convinced that people don't read anything past the first 140 characters anymore, so they must not listen past the first few words, either. In fact, I'm going to reveal a secret here that only the folks who are paying attention will even see: I always carry dental floss with me.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am
Liz Berg:

Ha ha, there's no real story behind the dental floss. I always carry earplugs as well, both items are merely practical. Am I the only overly-prepared weirdo here? What do you guys always carry with you?
Avatar 9:55am
dc pat:

Wallet, keys, guitar picks...
Avatar 9:56am
bibi:

that's your robot side, liz ;)
i carry a little squared scarlett johansson in my pocket. very practical.
concerning earplugs, one needs the pro ones with the tailor made plastic box. the regular single use ones, i just destroy the package and stick my fingers on them long before needing them...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am

keys, sometimes a wooden monkey holding onto a peach.

Apatt from the reg keys, phone etc...My glasses, a waterproof jacket, and a plastic bag.
  9:58am

And THOUGHTS. Lots of em.
  9:58am
Kevlicki:

I carry way too much with me! I've got metal chopsticks, my phone charger, and my mini rechargeable speakers-so I can play WFMU for everyone, wherever I go.
The hyper productive NYer in me always needs an arts and craft project
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am
mariano:

I always carry (in my knapsack) Purel, because it's NYC and you never know what you'll accidentally touch (I'm not a compulsive hand washer, honest), a small packet of Kleenex, because nothing is worse than needing them and not having them, especially in Winter on the subway. Then of course my trusty dugout and one-hitter, another essential item of urban survival. Other than that, phone, music, ear buds, the usual.
Avatar 9:59am

I always carry my stupid phone too and that bugs me. I have to have it for family communication but these dumb things irritate me to no end. I'd be fine with them if everyone wasn't so freaking obsessed with them. they're actually quite remarkable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am
mariano:

@Kevlicki: I agree. I've been practicing my attitude because I can be a real grump dealing with NYC crowds. My day always goes better when I make an effort to be pleasant to people.
Avatar 10:07am

liz, sorry i didnt catch what you said about kid million, did you play some side project from him ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am

I always carry my (point-n-shoot) camera, a writing tool, my bizness card cos I can't remember my work teley, I often forget my wallet, and should think of my phone more often.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am

I carry big almost-noise-cancelling headphones on the train in to work, mostly so I don't have to listen to annoying convos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am

O and I put a hankercheif in every pair of pants so I don't forget one of those. Poopey bags for the dog too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am
Liz Berg:

You guys are more prepared than I am! Who knew the WFMU listeners were such good boy/girl scouts!? Kevlicki has a great point about the good attitude, too... essential for survival, esp here in the oh-so-friendly tri-state area.

hmm good question Kevlicki. i remember it was on a bunch of those "best google street view moments" lists a few years ago with no mention of that event. common's comment leads me to believe this may be unrelated and that these guys have bi weekly viking sword battles in the park/vacant lot. or that's what i hope.

I weas astonished the first time I saw the Sunday LARPers in Mont Royal park in Montreal. Around 50 people "play" battling in the park EVERY week. It was amusing, there were folks in more historical costumes fighting folks with alien monster masks on. All playing by the same rules.
Check it out if you get the chance!

I always carry a bottle of water, a magazine to read, a granola bar in case of low blood sugar, and a bandana. Also, a pen, and gum which replaced cigarettes.

Thanks for the spins this morning, Liz. I'm thinking that, like cows, ovens produce good things in the presence of good sounds. Made some rye soda bread. With blue cheese, it's lunch. Later!

I discovered Creem Magazine at the 7-11. Nothing was quite the same after that. Also got a cat, one night. I spent a LOT of time there, and a LOT of quarters on pinball.
