M. Chopin always welcome to hear! Especially on drizzly evenings...

Good evening Bethany! And Stochastic 440ers!

Will there be Shostakovich?
  8:05pm
JakeGould:

Hey, I asked for Chopin a few weeks back! Thanks!
Avatar 8:06pm
Bethany Ryker:

There will definitely be Shostakovich, as we go around the circle of 5ths and relative minor keys. I placed it prominently!

aHHHH EVEning ........

Matt from Springfield:

Kabalevsky--I haven't heard of him before, so that's another new lead for me from this show!

Circle those 5ths, surround them.

Played some Kabalevsky back in my piano study days. Not this one though, holy smokes!

Ashkenazy! Make sure to annotate that one.

Feel like I'm in a WFMU *Twilight Zone* moment....

Speaking of Shostakovich, Keith Jarrett's treatment of the preludes and fugues is totally wonderful...

@Rec A pun. There was a play and a movie. I gave myself a time out and I'm in my room.

Hi doca!

This one by Karayev has to be the oddest, I love it

Howdy Rec and gathered appreciators of the finer tings. And Bethany.

I missed the beginning. Er, it's a circle so.. ?
Archive re-beginnings later, perhaps set on 'loop'

Bethany Ryker:

Kept C major as the longest and most simple of the bunch. Couldn't stop listening to this one late at night.
Avatar 8:34pm
Matt from Springfield:

C major is the chord of Western civilization! Even if that's because I've been biased towards that through modern tuning, it is the most "beautiful" of the chords!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
TR In MI:

Wow. That was beautiful. I don't think I've heard of Alkan before, will be seeking out more of him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
maestroso:

That Shostakovich piece, with the fugue, was so much fun to play... haven't done it in years, must go back to it.

gregg:

@earrie circle of fifths is a musical key thing: FCGDAEB
Avatar 8:45pm
Matt from Springfield:

You could certainly do the 24 different composers, though you can't just play them in any order -- I like your sequencing and flow from one to another.

This show is amazing! Thank you! I'm a classical pianist and I can't tell you the joy it's given me to stumble upon this.

Ah, thanks Bethany for annotating Ashkenazy as a pianist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm

Thank you Bethany! Only an hour so undivided attention is required for total enjoyment and musical education. Wonderful show.

Hey, I've heard this Rachmaninoff Prelude before! Great choice.

@maestroso: I agree! I love that Bethany brings the WFMU treatment to Classical music, shining light on obscure, wonderful pieces and composers.

Well that flew by.
Thanks as ever, Bethany.

Who's the pianist on the Rachmaninoff?

Thanks Bethany. Enjoyed the theme and the results!
Avatar 8:58pm
earrie:

Thanks @gregg. Yep. I know- though not tonnes. Piano started me at me C decades ago. And F came in like a pop fly from left field after G or maybe after D?
Avatar 8:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

Many thanks Bethany!
Always a pleasure here! Have a good night, everyone!
