@Tony: Interesting! Made me think of a blog I stumbled onto a while back, by a BBC film maker who specializes in Cold War era stuff. He has a section on a guy named Dean Reed, aka the Red Elvis, an American 60s pop singer who defected to East Germany then moved to Russia and became the establishment rock star in the USSR and the rest of the bloc. Really interesting story, the Dean Reed bit starts on the paragraph below the first two vids: www.bbc.co.uk...
