Avatar 7:42am 3d-nyc:

@ Road To Nowhere:

Wow!
Avatar 7:53am kat330:

Does anyone else here use an Internet radio to listen, specifically a Squeezebox? For some weeks now, there's a visual whenever it's first turned on of some guy we don't recognize. Dark hair, thin, goatee, glasses.

Usually the visual corresponds with the program (if the DJ provides one), like right now I see fxo's photo. But I first noticed this mystery man during Kurt Gottschalk's show, and he couldn't confirm it is he. But it remains through all other shows anyway, as the first visual seen. Weird. Description ring a bell with anyone?

Avatar 7:59am 3d-nyc:

Interesting history Henske has,
first time hearing of her.

3 great ladies in a row-Great show, Tks Fxo
Avatar 7:59am kat330:

@RR63: It really IS curious because of how ubiquitous the photo is. So no one at FMU fits the description of thin, dark hair, goatee and glasses, Frank? I suppose middle-aged is about right, too.
Avatar 8:00am fxo:

I'm just a babe in der woods.
Avatar 8:01am kat330:

That must be why you play "Naive Music."
Avatar 8:03am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I'm curious (but you knew that): Is there a notable advantage to those devices kat330? I've got 1555 stations bookmarked in iTunes - perhaps that qualifies me for a disease...Maybe the advantage is that you can carry it around rooms - that it's *not* a computer specifically - ??
Avatar 8:04am kat330:

@RR: Yes, carrying it around is a huge advantage. Especially outside gardening or reading on the deck. Oh, mmmm, springtime, seed catalogs....mmmm ... reverie time...
Avatar 8:05am kat330:

For e.g., Philo and I had Frank with us during our shower this a.m. [that's when we heard John Lee Hooker.]
Avatar 8:06am mauri:

baung!
  8:08am P-90:

Nice to see judy Henske having a bit of a revival, someone who was on the hipoeoisie radar for a time, certainly here in New York, then unmentioned for a while, worth a second look
Avatar 8:08am kat330:

And, of course, in the kitchen while cooking. Can't do any commenting, but it's how we do all our listening. We have a 2nd digital radio, too, a Grace Digital, but it doesn't include visuals, just track names/artists.
Avatar 8:08am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- well - my apt. is small - I just plug the computer in to the b-room stereo by a line
...I can see not wanting to drag a laptop or something around; my place is small enuff I opted *out* of providing wifi for every leech around wants to hack me & I'm sticking to wire to plug in...interesting...
  8:11am P-90:

@Kat: is there any way you can download this mysterious image? And post to a Facebook page or something so we can see?
Now becoming a little curious...
Avatar 8:11am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- howdy mauri !
...looking forward to checking that vimeo 3d...
- yeah I found the Elektra 'Forever Changes' label history boxset used & cheap - & been intrigued by J.Henske's place in it all ever since...
Avatar 8:12am fxo:

Mauri: hey! how's the weather?
Avatar 8:13am kat330:

@P-90: Philo might have a suggestion on that, but he's gone. I really don't see how to though, except taking a photo of it. And now, it only appears right when I first turn on the Squeezebox. The first time I saw it -- during Kurt's show -- it remained the entire show, so I figured it had to be some DJ in-between Wed and Fri. Does Fabio look like the description?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15am common:

happy monday!
  8:15am P-90:

No. Q: What color are the glasses frames? Not white, are they?
Avatar 8:16am kat330:

Again, I'm doing this from memory -- I believe wire-rimmed?
Avatar 8:17am mauri:

Heyup Frank and everyone! It's Cloudy, some light rain, +2 celcius. I was just out walking. Not very wintery.
Avatar 8:17am fxo:

P-90: frames, but not contacts?

morning, common.
  8:18am P-90:

@RevRab: !,555 stations (!) bookmarked in iTunes? You, my friend, are a magnificent obsessive. There's gotta be some you marked because you thought they seemed interesting but rarely get back to, right?
Avatar 8:20am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...there *is* an 'Interesting' playlist to help w/ that - yes...
Avatar 8:22am kat330:

You'd have to wheedle down to only 6 pre-programmed stations on the Squeezebox and 9-10 on the Grace.
  8:25am P-90:

So, the bookmarked stations are divided into multiple playlists? I've used iTunes but never bookmarked stations, so I'm just learning about this
Makes sense NOT to have a single list of 1555 locations, a hierarchy of playlists makes sense
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26am Guido (Cologne):

By the way, our dearest Judy is alive and right there:
www.facebook.com...
Avatar 8:29am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...iTunes has a column for 'Plays' - which tells you how many times you've streamed something - but not for *how long* you streamed it...
- now I have playlists (iTunes' word, not mine) for: General for them all, Comedy, Indian Music, Interesting, Jazz, News&Weather, Psych - should have them also for Punk, Metal, Prog, Folk - what have you...
- Judy's in the Phil Ochs documentary for a second...
  8:33am P-90:

Thanks, Guido! "Hootenanny Hoot: OMG
  8:35am P-90:

Thanks, RevRab, I'm going to take a closer look at iTunes functions, you remind me how many net radio stations there are out there, worth exploring more systematically
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37am Guido (Cologne):

From what I happen to read:
Judy is a valuable interview partner as soon as matters are about early 60ies folk scene, LA-Laurel Canyon / Troubadour scene, Fred Neil, Herby Cohen, Jack Nietzsche. I think she's got a healthy distance from the music biz. I'm somewhat sure she must be very nice in person to talk to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37am Sem Chumbo:

Oh, yes.
Avatar 8:39am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

In iTunes you can click on 'Radio' top left & it shows Genres & Stations under that - which says nothing about those stations's quality.

- Judy's personality seems to always come thru like that it seems.
  8:39am Peanut Gallery:

What S. Chimborazo said.
Avatar 8:41am kat330:

@RR63: Remember our old discussion about "lateral singing" (specifically re: Valerie June)? Well, there's now a male equivalent Bugging my eardrums, too: Jake Bugg.
Avatar 8:41am pierre:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42am Sem Chumbo:

Avatar 8:43am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- bonjour pierre !
Avatar 8:44am kat330:

Yep. It's hands-off now while I get some stuff done. Thanks for the morning sounds, Frank!
Avatar 8:45am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Greetings FXO - catching up mid-week, thank you muchly :)
Avatar 12:24pm kat330:

@P-90 (at 8:11 am): Here's the screenshot of our Internet radio's "mystery man" often in the image viewer while streaming WFMU: bit.ly... The ID mystery IS solved by Drummer's DJ Jeff Golick last night. The image is of WNYC's Brian Lehrer.

However, this presents a second, and perhaps greater, mystery: WNYC is not even a stream we've ever programmed onto the Squeezebox, so how the heck does Lehrer pop up as WFMU's go-to, default image?? Curiouser and curiouser.
