This 80's-like piece is almost intolerably perfect.

Something from 1984's Electric Dreams might fit here, perhaps ELO's "Video."

Cashews + chocolate, sounds a bit exotic!
Hi Mike and Kenzo and Bob and PSS and all Thereseketeers coming in!

Mike, You know the rules: bring enough to share with everyone. Can you warm the syrup up first? Thanks, I like it runny. Extra cashews, please.

"Electric Dreams" is the prequel to "Her," right?
Avatar 12:32am
Matt from Springfield:

Internet Golden Boy Kurt Gottschalk is pretty nice!
Avatar 12:34am
Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: It seems to be! Wasn't aware of that '84 film until you mentioned it--thought you meant Phil Oakey's "Together In Electric Dreams"--which it turns out, was made for THAT film!

Also a prequel: Kate Bush's "Deeper Understanding", from '89.

WTF is Her and why did I miss something related to Electric Dreams??
Like Kate Bush's Deeper Understanding, how about Laurie Anderson's Big Science?
Avatar 12:56am
Matt from Springfield:

I also like Big Science, and most of Laurie's material from that timeframe.

"Her" is the Joaquin Phoenix/Scarlett Johanson film with Oscar buzz, "A man...and his AI computer..."
Avatar 12:58am
fleep:

You get to watch Joaquin Phoenix but only hear Scarlett Johansson. Not my idea of a good time.
Avatar 1:00am

@fleep: Ha! Though I'm sure when that feature is available, some people will pay big $$$ to have Scarlet as the voice of their own computer.

This is way creepier than that scene in Mary Poppins or the Bill Haley poster in the stairwell.
Avatar 2:34am

In the traditional slasher movie setup, Bill Haley with the creepy eyes would come and kill Ben Mays for his immorality. After running away half-clothed, he would then kill the jailbait. Dick van Dyke as "West-Berlin-Bert" will be the lone survivor.

But unlike judo/karate/tae kwon do/etc and the Asian martial arts, Americans are well acquainted with those styles and could tell whether an instructor knows the style or not. But fewer Americans are familiar enough with KM to tell if the instructor's full of it.
