Wake up, Uncle Michael! The show's about to start.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm
Uncle Michael:

that's hissing, not snoring!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:00pm
listener james from westwood:

howdy howdy, all! last bit of work for 2013, and happy to do it w/ tony coulter on the spindles of steel!
Avatar 12:01pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Uncle Michael: I knowz -- but maybe snakes hiss when they snore?
Avatar 12:02pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya, Listener James!
Avatar 12:03pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Uncle Michael: Not that I'm saying you're a snake -- my lame jibes are just getting away from me.

Doug Schulkind:

Greetings to Hisshonor, Mayor Coulter, and all his constituents!
Avatar 12:07pm
Tony Coulter:

As I just said, FMU's William Berger is the drummer on this cassette. Some tracks ended up on later releases, btw -- but most didn't, I believe.

Brian in UK:

Quick hello Tony. No archives so no Hisstory.
Avatar 12:08pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey ho hola, Doug and Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
Brian in UK:

All the best for next year Tony, doug, james, UM and late arrivals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
Gary:

Happy New Year everyone!
Avatar 12:10pm

Heya, Gary! And Happy Newt's Ear, everybody!!

gah, better late than never! happy new year, all!
Avatar 12:18pm
Tony Coulter:

Hola and happy noo earz, DCE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
DCE:

I really hope I wake up with earz tomorrow, or it will be a rough 2014
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
listener james from westwood:

always interesting to see wfmu's crew in non-DJ roles, especially musical ones. IIRC there's a youtube video of irwin drumming with a combo on the uncle floyd show.
Avatar 12:24pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

this is nice.
Avatar 12:25pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Kurt!!
Avatar 12:29pm
Tony Coulter:

Featuring William Berger in the pre-metal years and found in the Atlantic Ave. Salvation Army.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:32pm
listener james from westwood:

nothing wrong w/ a female-vocalist theme. hell, speaking of irwin, he had that wonderful "gender bias" hour of all women as part of his show for a goodly stretch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm
Ike:

I like the theme. Are half of home-taped albums by female vocalists? I imagine not, no? But it'd be cool if they were.
Avatar 12:37pm
Tony Coulter:

Vocalist/songwriter, I should say. And all from the U.S. of A. Glad you approve, Listener James and Ike!
Avatar 12:43pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

weird, i've found some great stuff at the atlantic ave. salvation army as well. someone dumps there... and hi, tony. this bacon lady is pretty nice too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm
Stanley:

Hi Tony and listeners.
Mmm this Bacon is good.
Avatar 12:49pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya, Stanley!!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
listener james from westwood:

this beth bacon tape has a lovely sense of goofiness to it in spots.
Avatar 1:16pm
Tony Coulter:

Agreed. The LP she did with Thomas P. is really good too. It's called "Subliminal Farms." Sadly unknown, though.
Avatar 1:44pm
Tony Coulter:

In the pic of the Care of the Cow cassette above the playlist, Sher Doruff is on the (your) left and Christine Baczewska is on the right. Victor Sanders is hiding behind that beard.
Avatar 1:49pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

hittin' on all cylindars, tony!
Avatar 1:51pm
Tony Coulter:

Thanks, your Kurtness!
Avatar 1:52pm
Tony Coulter:

Both Care of the Cow and Beth A. Bacon have a tiny bit of a Roches influence, methinks.
Avatar 1:55pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

yeah, def roches, raincoats. it's making me feel weirdly nostalgic for stuff that was kinda peripheral to my listening habits.
Avatar 2:01pm
Tony Coulter:

Ah, peripheral nostalgia -- almost as good as nostalgia for things you never experienced.
Avatar 2:01pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

found a pic of the cassette cover (and a few mp3s) here: careofthecow.wordpress.com...
Avatar 2:05pm
Tony Coulter:

Thanks for the link. A listener who saw them live described them as "two lesbians and a biker." I kinda see what he was getting at.
Avatar 2:07pm
Tony Coulter:

Christine Baczewska's later solo stuff is more "New Music"-y -- and really good.
Avatar 2:08pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

i'll keep an eye out!
Avatar 2:10pm
Tony Coulter:

The station has the also excellent Care of the Cow LP.
Avatar 2:14pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

oh, cool!
Avatar 2:19pm
northguineahills:

Hey, a band I've actually heard of!

(a rarity during tape hiss)
Avatar 2:21pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, NGH! Was just going to say that C. as B. was the duo of Karen Sheridan & Suzanne Lewis.
Avatar 2:24pm
Tony Coulter:

Suzanne Lewis has been pretty active since.
Avatar 2:29pm
Tony Coulter:

Oops! I meant "Cow-Op," not "Cow-Up." Damn you, autofill!
Avatar 2:32pm

HNY. Hate being late for Tape Hiss.

OK, I'm done preparing my show for later. Now I can listen with both ears.
