Hello all! Just awoke from the food coma I decided to go into when I got home from work. Started the work day being informed by my boss that my workplace was shutting down at the end of November. Sigh...

Thanks, guys. Honestly, other than that, it was a really good day at work. And apparently I won't be let go, but they'll move me to one of their other units. Will have to see how things develop. It just irritates me that they hired me partly to renovate the branch, and when we finally get around to doing that, the branch is closed before we have a chance to see if any of the changes can make a difference. Feels like I've just wasted my time for nothing.

That test thing scared the hell out of me
Avatar 4:44pm
Caryn:

Heh, that "if this was a real emergency, I'd be freaking out" reminded me of the old Dave Allen joke about Cold War-era emergency system tests: "If this had been a real emergency, your radio would be melting in your hands."

Or Billy Connolly's airplane safety instructions: "In the unlikely event of loss of power and all 4 engines, we'll be going into the ground like a f-ing dart."

@Mike: my favourite bit of the safety instructions is: "We advise you to wear your life jackets. This will do you no good, but when archeologists find us in 3,000 years, they'll think there was a river here."

Hoo-Ah! It's me, Elvis Aaron Presley, THE King! Wat-chAH! Damn baby, damn! Just taking a moment from protecting my subterranean kingdom of sand people from the evil magma men, to tell you that I AM DIGGING ON YOUR GROOVES. Long live Kurtis Gottschalk, long live music, AND LONG LIVE KARATE! Hiyah! Watch out man! I'll come at you from all the directions at once! I'm just that fast! Like a peanut butter and banana sandwich! Alright, time to get back to TCBing. Stay beautiful! The King has now left the building!

@ carmichael -- it's a joke b/c Kurt claimed earlier that ac/pm were "not music", which is an outrageously hypocritical statement from someone playing this person "Jiří Korn" on the radio right now

Oh, Kurt, sometimes foreign-language covers of songs have little to do with the original lyrics. E.g. the Finnish cover of "Life on Mars" is called "Sudenkorento" (dragonfly). The lyrics have f all to do with Bowie's lyrics.

Thompson will play just about any song that enters his mind. He talked at one concert about learning Russian in school, and the hip young teacher made the students translate a popular song into Russian. Thompson chose Substitute, and "it was horrible." Then he sang it (in English), and it was exhilarating!
