This was first pointed out to me by someone else: "He's a complicated man, but no one understand him but his woman." The first "but" is completely wrong in that context.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
Caryn:

For some reason, I get apoplectic whenever I hear the line in Elton John's "Your Song" that goes, "If I was a sculptor, but then again, no". Really, Elton? That's like a line that goes "what if?... naah" and thus has absolutely no reason to be in the song, except to rhyme (somewhat) with the next line's "show".
Avatar 3:57pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Really Caryn? - I like that - makes it more conversational & interesting...Wait - am I being sucked into talking about Billy Joel & Elton John again?? Well - not 'talking' exactly - that'd be like a bad lyric...

Juliana Hatfield reminds me of one of my most dreaded lyrics, from "My Sister". First time I heard the song the first line was so cheesy I was able to sing the second line with her. I changed the station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm
Caryn:

@RRN63: the last 2 verses of the song do the conversational thing way better. This second verse just annoys me. Not to mention that the "man who makes potions at the travelling show" bit makes no sense either, so both lines could've been replaced by something else by Taupin. WTH Taupin, were you high? Suffering from writer's block?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm

Individual lines of "Imagine" without context can be totally pleasant to hear. "Above us only sky"? Fine. "Living for today"? Fine. Even lines like "you may say I'm a dreamer" and "a brotherhood of man" are ok without the cloying context.

I'm glad there was at least a little bit of gladness in Joe Frank's program that aired today, even if most of it was morose. If he left every character sad, that would be mean of him to them.

I've concluded that all or at least most fictional characters know they're in a work of fiction, but are afraid to let the author know, for fear that some of them will be mean the way Andy is to Railroad Bill, and that others will be so spooked to know their characters are aware that they will stop writing about them and thus shorten their existence.

I think those 78s will only play a finite number of times though. One of the nice things about digital is knowing that it won't break from the playing.

Wow. It's been years since I played this. And I have it.

Thank you. I'll be playing it again.

Otto, If you can find a computer that still runs software that supports the file format... and the DRM doesn't stop you. Digital makes storage cheap, which says nothing about being able to use the files.

Tull? But this isn't Mandl's show?!

As long as we're in the prog segment of the show, Crimson is apparently going to tour for the first time in a decade -- with three drummers:

@RRN63: They say you can't play out a hard drive, but my record stylus has done a number on mine...
