Dammit, missed an hour. I blame Friday the 13th bad luck.

Speaking of numbers, brief chuckle today when flight 666 arrived at Helsinki airport (IATA code: HEL) today. The only thing that would've made it better is if the plane had come from Singapore (from SIN to HEL).

@Caryn: that flight was chartered by prof. Dum Dum, but his battle attire got him held up by security. Hopefully next time won't be so close to 9/11

@fred: the common joke here seems to be that they should've gotten Bruce Dickinson to pilot the flight.

The new Mary Halvorson (first Septet) record is great! 'Illusionary Sea'.

As is the new Kayo Dot ('Hubardo), which I'm slightly surprised to find that nothing has been aired by anyone on WFMU from it, including the tracks that were available for streaming prior to and after it's release Aug. 30th.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm

Fred, you're a God! THANKS! merci!
Avatar 4:26pm
Caryn:

@Kurt: I think we're all thankful for no Yanni on cue. Seriously, had to go to google to get his full name, and google offers for "other searches made by people who searched for Yanni": Enya, Vangelis, Kenny G and Richard Clayderman. Oy. Although I suspect Ken could make an entertaining and terrifying feature for his show based on these google searches: google a performer and then play them and the 4-5 other names that are offered by google to accompany the name.

@fred and northguineahills. That does it. I'm reaching for my bottlle of 14 yr old single cask Bowmore as I type. (Was saving for a special day but hell, isn't today good enough?)

I'll forgo whisk(e)y in favour of some apple soda and OD'ing on birch sugar & tar candy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm
fred:

@Caryn: the guy in charge of sales at work has been a recidivist collaborator of Vangelis. Saying that name within his earshot gets you a mandatory minimum sentence of one hour of dreadful stories about that guy and how the olympics made him rich enough to bail out Greece, though he won't

I'm hitting the boozer in about 90 minutes. Cold cold IPA ....

Although, I did catch Jesse Krakow talking about KD on this Monday's Minor Music just as I was tuning in. And he mentioned their show tomorrow night at the Bowery Electric (I live in Milwaukee, otherwise I'd definitely be there). But he's friends with Toby Driver, Keith Abrams, etc.

Common: I was introduced to Kayo Dot & maudlin of the Well in 2008. I've been a huge fan ever since. Choirs of the Eye is a great album, 'Pitcher of Summer' was one of the more immediate songs to hit me when being introduced to their work.

I had to gather some funds in order to get the deluxe package of 'Hubardo'. Very pleased that I could.

That Peter Evans piece was nice.

@ ngh - I visited the Laphroaig distillery when i was on a golf trip to the Hebrides. The gimmick was by signing up as a 'Friend of Laphroaig' you actually got given one square foot of land (peat bog actually), with legal title as the owner and all, and the rent was a nip of whisky per year. Catch was that you had to visit the distilery to collect your 'rent'.
