Hi William. I never heard Killing JOke before. I expected them to be rawer, more kinda voilent. Love the pic. I just got a young (1 year) black cat and decided to call him Wlliam. It seemed to fit, he is kind of quiet and seemingly thoughtful and smart. Great show.

Killing Joke are all over the map, with a discography dating back to the early 80s. Lots of tracks "harder" than that one I just played. William is a good name for anything, and that's me - "seemingly" thoughtful and smart. For sure.

  12:48pm
Marie:

@Cheri Pi: Jeffy! What a wonderful name. Congrats on the new Kitten :) . Sorry to hear re: your black cat. I had a big black cat (with a little white) for 18 years who passed away at 20 last year. He was named Pyewacket and he too was amazing. Kind of the ultimate cat--he LOVED food, human and cat. He would hang out in the kitchen on the counter watching me cook. He was really soulful. And he ended up having a big bare belly. Okay, I'll stop here. No more cat talk for me. :)

Marie, I have a cat named Pyewacket and she's 14. Unfortunately I think she won't be around much longer. She's barely eating and is becoming very weak. Her brothers from the same litter died the same way two years ago and my mom spent thousands trying to save them, which I can't afford to do. (My mom adopted their mom who was heavily pregnant with them at the time and kept the boys.) My cat loved food too until recently. She's very affectionate and I will miss her.

These horror movie trailers are probably more entertaining for me than sitting through the whole actual movie would be. I finally saw Evil Dead II recently (one of those important things I'd just never gotten around to) and it was one of the best things I've ever seen. Hilarious. I also loved Cabin in the Woods. I guess I prefer horror-comedy. Regular horror... eh.
  1:19pm

Sorry to hear about that Rebecca :( > If you can afford to bring the vet to your home to put your cat to sleep that would be really nice.

I was just thinking how these bands and their ilk are like forging into a new front; exploring violence, insanity, evil, in song. How cool. Where else it it explored? Here and there but not so vociferously.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm
Ike:

No, no, maybe I mostly meant "mainstream horror." You know, cheap stuff that goes out to 3,000 chain theaters. But "The Exorcist" didn't do much for me either. And yes I also prefer Mad Men to Walking Dead, but Walking Dead does have excellent makeup and well-directed action scenes, but absolutely NOTHING new whatsoever. It could be SO much crazier and more imaginative.

Re your remark from the last hour, Romero did madmen too: a more obscure movie of his called "The Crazies", which most aficionados rate as slightly better than his Living Dead films.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm
Ike:

Mmmm, brain mayonnaise.

Rev. Turnip Druid:

Brainnaise?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
Ike:

Brilliant! You design the packaging, Rev, and I'll grind up my brains in my bathtub and jar them.
Avatar 2:24pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Nice one, Maniac. That one (the Joe Spinney/Caroline Munro version, natch) came out when I was about 12 years old... perfect timing for a young freak.
Avatar 2:24pm
William:

I have seen every Romero film there is too see. The Crazies is still a variation on the plague / mass killing theme, though a bit more "human" than the zombie template for sure; more "madmen" than "Mad Men" though. For a real deviation from the zombie trilogy, and a great film, I prefer Martin. When Kurt G. and I went to the G.A. Romero meet & greet Q & A, everyone cheered when I brought up Martin.
Avatar 2:25pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

...the year after Fulci's ZOMBIE, if memory serves. Great days, those.
Avatar 2:26pm

[referring to my 2:24 comment, that was]
...and agreed 100% about Martin.

I prefer the tangy zip of BrainWhip to real Brainnaise. In the squeeze bottle, of course.
Avatar 2:28pm
Cheri Pi:

Brain Salad, don't let it sit too long in the sun.
Avatar 2:30pm
William:

...and who are these "aficionados"? The Crazies is definitely very good, but not that "obscure." It was just remade a few years ago by Hollywood. No dis Robert, but you are dealing with Mr. Horror here...There's very, very little I have not explored when it comes to the genre, unless you're talking about Troma crap.
Avatar 2:33pm
William:

If this keeps up, I am going to pull out Brain Salad Surgery, and then we will ALL be sorry.

Avatar 2:36pm
Carmichael:

They saved Hitler's brain, don'cha know ...
Avatar 2:37pm
Droll:

. o O ( Of course, there's less than a half hour left in the show, barely enough time for a handful of movements of some album-side length opus, but more than enough time to double to number of notes played during the 3-hour show. )
Avatar 2:40pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

There simply must be a more fitting brain-related track in your bag of trickies.
  2:41pm
Robert:

I'm going to have to see this "Martin", thanks. Too bad my cx for Romero material has recently moved to So. Car.
Avatar 2:43pm
William:

When you say "brain salad," sho nuff' ELP comes to mind, but I do not at all concern myself with being "thematic" or springboarding off the chat comments- I have a plan, y'see.
  2:43pm
Robert:

BTW, have you ever read A.C. Doyle's collection "Tales of Terror and Mystery"?
  2:43pm
Marie:

I prefer the tangy taste of eyeballs wrapped in some rotting stomach lining with raw bacon and skinned goats balls....
Avatar 2:45pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

digging that plan.
Avatar 2:47pm
William:

A.C. Doyle? No. But now we're talking literature, not film, and that's for people w/o racing-brain syndrome. Seriously, though, I have read Lovecraft, Poe, Matheson, lots of Victorian horror, all in the past, though. I can't sit still with a book any more—were you just trying to come up with something I wouldn't know?
Avatar 2:48pm
Droll:

I hope your plan includes evading the Prog Police, who are most certainly waiting outside the station after airing Missus Beastly. Kudos for your braveness!
Avatar 2:49pm

Oh, you mean the Sherlock Holmes guy. That was deliberately obscure. I think of him as "Arthur Conan."

William:

Sorry, I'm combative today. Being out in the light will do that to me. And everyone on any Internet message board loves a chance to "correct" the DJ, or attempt to come up with something we don't know; it's all about putting on one's Vulcan ears and making "corrections." Knowledge used to be earned, not a mere Google search away.
  2:54pm
Robert:

No, William, just trying to see if you'd appreciate a cx I discovered recently between some old written source material and recent screen & comic book stuff.
Avatar 2:54pm
