RUBBER BAND:

Do we have some (Rubber) Bandrauschen today?
Avatar 11:33am
Carmichael:

Hiya Tony. I am waiting obediently.
Avatar 11:40am
Tony Coulter:

Heya, Carmichael and Rubber Band! I am currently picking spilled coffee beans off the floor. Coming up: one steaming mug of dust-mite joe.
Avatar 11:43am
Jeremy N:

Grinding my beans in anticipation!
Avatar 11:57am
Tony Coulter:

I'll be starting with the Embryo cassette, which is on the upper right in the pic on the playlist.

Hello fellow aural exploders
Avatar 12:02pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya DCE (and a belated hey to Jeremy too)
Avatar 12:08pm
Carmichael:

Tony, there is a live 1981 Embryo release out there, apparently on the Schneeball label. I can't find any other info yet.
Avatar 12:08pm
Kay:

I remember borrowing my cousin's Led Zeppelin II, then accidentally taping over midway through Whole Lotta Love, somehow overriding the tab-out protection with my little portable player. You could hardly tell.
Avatar 12:09pm
Kay:

Do you bust out your tabs, Tony?
Avatar 12:10pm
Tony Coulter:

Hola. Kay!

@ Carmichael: That's not what I have. I'm pretty sure what I have is unreleased stuff. The cover is hand-made.
Avatar 12:11pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Kay: Yes, I do jab out the tabs with a pencil. Better safe than sorry.
Avatar 12:11pm
Carmichael:

That's awesome, Tony. How did you manage to find it?
Avatar 12:14pm
Tony Coulter:

I bought it from Archie Patterson of Eurock, who used to get lots of demos and such from krautrock types. Still does, I imagine.
Avatar 12:15pm
Tony Coulter:

He didn't remember exactly what it was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm

wonderful wonderful!

No, at a street fair, but I've also hung out with him at the station, yes.
THis is a grand show, Tony!

Hello Tony & cassetteophiles. Grinding my beans sounds a trifle grubby.
Avatar 12:48pm

Heya, B in UK! I have a beanguard to prevent me from grinding my beans.

This song now is so good. So much going on. Great.

@ Marie: Thanks!

I got that Zhuelian vibe, too, Uncle Michael!
Avatar 1:34pm

The bass playing is Zeuhl-ish fer sure.

Rick from SC:

This is some great stuff!
Avatar 1:40pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey Rick -- and Rubber Band Houdini too!
Avatar 1:46pm
RUBBER BAND:

so was that Orient Express the same band that made a 1969 album self titled and included indo rock fusion and funk and was on the mainstream label
Avatar 1:49pm
Tony Coulter:

Nope -- different band. This one was a French duo active only in the '80s.
Avatar 1:53pm
RUBBER BAND:

reminds me this of early Devo, Chrome, and early Human League etc
Avatar 1:54pm
Tony Coulter:

Yeah, kind of in that vein. The first track is rather Tuxedomoon-ish as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm
Uncle Michael:

@Rubber Band: I played some of *that* Orient Express on my show a couple weeks back...it's in the archive.
Avatar 1:55pm

there is a bit of Van Der Graaf in there too.

@ Snortley: Aha! So that's who that is on the Goosewind cassette cover. I wondered. Thanks! (And greetings!)
Avatar 2:03pm
RUBBER BAND:

TC- not quite cold wave more like cold prog?
Avatar 2:07pm
Tony Coulter:

Better than warmed-over prog, I guess!
Avatar 2:08pm
RUBBER BAND:

oh TC its just inde pop that you could find 10 bands to a penny in Manchester in the late 80s!
Avatar 2:11pm
RUBBER BAND:

saying that it does have a sort of Kinks/Small Faces/T.REX charm!
Avatar 2:12pm
Tony Coulter:

This pop is fizzier than most. Kind of like Deep Freeze Mice or sumpin'.
Avatar 2:14pm

this is My White Bicycle rhythm!
Avatar 2:15pm
Tony Coulter:

My White Corpuscle
Avatar 2:17pm
Carmichael:

Goosewind isn't an offshoot of Hawkwind, I'm thinking.
Avatar 2:18pm
Tony Coulter:

Nope -- but probably a play on Hawkwind's name!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm
Uncle Michael:

A corpuscle built for two.
Avatar 2:22pm
Tony Coulter:

Did he just say, "I like the chicken to stay out of sight."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm

I feel like chicken tonight...chicken tonight...
Avatar 2:24pm
Tony Coulter:

Waiting for my chicken ... I mean man.

MrFab:

Really diggin' the show today Tony.
this The Twins & Rig Veeda loveliness reminds me of how the Velvet Underground influence on '80s indie rock was quite refreshing at the time, not the cliche it is today. (Still, as cliched influences go, I can think of lots worse ones than the Velvets...)
Avatar 2:29pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey. MrFab! Agreed heartily re Velvets influence....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm
Doug Schulkind:

Greetings Tony and fellow hisspsters!
Avatar 2:32pm
Tony Coulter:

Doug! Glad you pulled yourself away from your holiday bacchanal to drop by!
Avatar 2:32pm
Carmichael:

Definite Velvets. Garbage Man sounds like Joe Strummer or Post-Shane Pogues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
holland oats:

likin' this twins/rig tony!
Avatar 2:34pm
Tony Coulter:

Ahoy there, Holland Oats!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm
Doug Schulkind:

Tony, in half an hour, I have to go get my lobstahs (only $3.00 a pound) from my own private lobstahman. Fresh offa the boat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm
Uncle Michael:

Would that be a lobstahboat?
Avatar 2:37pm
Tony Coulter:

Make sure it's a lobster-man and not a man-lobster.
Avatar 2:38pm
Carmichael:

And getcha some drawhn butta.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm
Doug Schulkind:

The lobstah lobby has done little in addressing the lobstah glut, forcing prices down for the 3rd year in a row. Commence crying lobstah tears.
Avatar 2:41pm
Tony Coulter:

Those of you with long memories may recall that I played some Gooswind on a previous Tape Hiss. This is not the same stuff.
Avatar 2:41pm
northguineahills:

Got free Tonkatsu as the restaurant gave me hot piping tan tan soup, instead. That's good service!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Brian in UK:

@ngh how is your paw?
Avatar 2:47pm
northguineahills:

I took some benedryl, which made me sleepy and more spacey then normal, but it stopped swelling. Doesn't help I didn't sleep last night due to the wtf! is happening to me factor. thanks Brian! this has made work more of a challenge.
Avatar 2:48pm
northguineahills:

Eating w/ chopsticks w/ my lefthand, which is a rather curious endeavor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm

@ngh be thankful taht you are writing those words 'this has made WORK more of a challenge'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm
Brian in UK:

Adios amigos. Never cease to be amazed at the depth of the well, Tony.
