Sweet Little Lisa is the real capper on this album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm
G:

I used to see those blue with columns paper coffee cups from Manhattan "Greek"and other delis all the time in the 80s and maybe 90s. Are they still in use?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
joe:

@ Carmichael en.wikipedia.org... you can actually get ceramic ones now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
Rich in Washington:

Dave Edmunds writes the catchiest pop songs ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
Uncle Michael:

Sweet Little Lisa owes it all to Albert Lee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm
Uncle Michael:

Elvis Costello wrote that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
joe:

Not really sure if they are still out there. According to the wiki entry Solo now owns the trademark on them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
Amanda:

I'm charmed that you guys are discussing the "We are happy to serve you" cups. I loved that article they put out when the designer passed away...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
listener james from westwood:

G: I believe they still are in use.
C: The designer of the Anthora cup got a good writeup here: www.nytimes.com...
Avatar 12:22pm
Carmichael:

Interesting, thanks. I had never seen nor heard of them before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm
G:

Coffee now comes so upsized many places that size cup would not work for most people. I suppose they could upsize the cup. But it's just another example of (as the ancient Greeks would say) panta rhei -- all things flow/pass/change/disappear. you can't step into the same river of coffee twice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
G:

The wiki article seemed to say the sale per year of it are way down from the 90s...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm
Uncle Michael:

The cup peaked during the NYPD Blue era...no doubt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
listener james from westwood:

with its recent appearance in a popular cable drama, sales might ... perk up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
listener james from westwood:

during the 2000s, a coffee cart used to park down the block from the starbucks in the ground floor of my nyc office bldg. 75 cents a cup. huge line. still a market for affordable, human-sized portions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
Uncle Michael:

I will return shortly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm
joe:

Starbucks and Starbucks like places put the knife in the heart of the cup as it killed most of the corner deli cup of coffee buttered roll/bagel breakfast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm
joe:

I grew up in the diner industry with my mom as a waitress in many diners in north eastern NJ so it's an image that sits very comfortably with me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm
joe:

@james was just in the middle of reading that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm
G:

He's goin' to Jackson, ever since the fire went out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm
listener james from westwood:

i asked a former nj resident, visiting from new mex., if among the dinner options we had, she'd consider a diner. her face lit. up. she didn't find the diners out there to be the equal of those in this area. that goes double for the bagels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm
G:

Many bagels here in NYC are actually too illegit not to quit any more. Without the boiling step, it's a muffin with a hole practically. Wrong crust.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
listener james from westwood:

a boss of mine used to bring in bagels every time she visited nj from the maryland office ... but she'd get panera. i volunteered one week to get bagels for her and brought in the real deal from a jernt that had been making them for 40+ years. she was converted on the spot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
listener james from westwood:

(no slam intended on maryland and its own culinary achievements, of course ...)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm

Anybody know what it was making the really "spooky" warbally sound near the beginning of the Bing song? Was it a muted clarinet or something?

Uncle Michael:

We want digitimized new bin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm
