Wow! That. Picture. Is. *AWESOME*

Good morning Doug, I'll just sit back here and gape in awe at that, er, awesomeness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27am Doug Schulkind:

An awesome good morning to you, m'lord!
Avatar 8:32am hyde:

the symphony for strings and hippos has always been my favorite Mozart piece
  8:33am Paul Sherratt:

Welcome to 'Schukind's Magical Menagerie' !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39am Doug Schulkind:

Hello Dr. Sherratt and Mr. Hyde!
  8:41am Paul Sherratt:

And as there are no coincidences you'll not be surprised to learn that I've just this minute finished photoshoppin' a menage ... ( just the one, mind you )
Avatar 8:45am Van in DC:

Wow. Nobody at FMU has ever played "Conquistador" by Maynard Ferguson, at least not according to playlist search. Wow. I think he's one of if not the best trumpeteers ever. My idol. Saw him live.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:47am listener james from westwood:

howdy, doug, and hi there, fellow lis'ners! great to see that the front-page link has created such a bump in the gtdr "ratings"! hope the other streams are finding some new love, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am Doug Schulkind:

There are no coincidences, Paul Sherratt. Oh wait a minute, you JUST said that!

Van, I play Maynard & the Musties last Friday. Was that close enough?

Howdy back atcha, Listener James! I have to believe that all of the stream are seeing an increase. The increased visibility is a boon. Boom!
Avatar 8:49am Matt from Springfield:

Tambourines and elephants, are playing in the band! And, hippos, swans, ostriches too, etc...

Hiya Doug and everyone! So glad we can now see what's on the stream all the time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49am Doug Schulkind:

Isn't it wicked cool, Matt from Springfield?!
  8:49am trish:

Good morning.
Which front page link? I got here from Doug's playlist page.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52am Doug Schulkind:

Hiya Trish. If you go to the front page of WFMU, there will be an automatic link ONCE THE SHOW BEGINS to this page. It will happen when I make this page "live" (which will reveal the "now playing" information). Right now, it is in the status called "in progress."

Dontcha just love seeing the puppeteer pulling the strings?
Avatar 🥁 8:54am duke:

I wish I could have been at that concert in the picture, although not too near the hippo section.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55am Doug Schulkind:

If I told you the first selection of the day would be a mariachi from 1933, I just might be telling the truth.

Hippo hooray to you, Duke!
  8:55am trish:

Oh. For me, the other streams are now hidden by default and there's an extra click to 'Show all channels'. Hm
Avatar 8:58am Matt from Springfield:

Wicked mariachi coolness! So cool, it's hot!
Avatar 8:58am ndbob:

morning Doug and everyone!
  8:58am trish:

This stream looks just like the other streams, too. No indication that you're doing a show.
  8:59am trish:

Oh. It's there now. Yay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00am Doug Schulkind:

Trish, that only happens once I make my playlist LIVE (see the "now playing" over to the left?) I don't make the playlist live until just before I begin, which I shall do....NOW!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:01am listener james from westwood:

Avatar 9:01am Michael:

Good morning to Doug and everyone else at this party.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am Uncle Michael:

How the hell can I already be late to the comments? I ask you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am Jeff Golick:

Ready to give the drummah sum.
  9:02am trish:

Oh! That's partly my fault, then. My mind was already ahead of 9am...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Doug Schulkind:

Good morning to you, ndbob! And you, too, Tío Miguel!
  9:03am trish:

Er, completely my mistake.
Looks/works great that new front page stuff.

In the Drummer Stream, Trish, there are no mistakes.
  9:04am Mr C:

Yo yo from Hollywood..need something from the drummer. Hit me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am Doug Schulkind:

Hey Mr. C, sorry I couldn't get the union guys to unfurl the red carpet. It's their latté break. (This program is solidly pro-union.)
  9:07am ?:

The coffee pot is on the stove, over here, too. It's red by the way.
Avatar 9:08am ausmanx:

i've never understood the timing on this stream when i click over from FMU, with comments from 8.20 am but the program starts at 9. i always assumed it's because i'm in Australia or something, where it's 11.08 p.m. i'll shut up now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Doug Schulkind:

Hey Question Mark, save some coffee for Mr. C, he's up early.

Hello there ausmanx. The deal is that the playlist page is made public before the show actually begins. The friendship circle begins holding hands before we start banging the drums.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:11am listener james from westwood:

ausmanx: doug includes a link to the chat in his email for early chats. also, one can usu. reach it thru his list of playlists earlier than 9 on fridays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am Jeff Golick:

@ausmanx: some of us just can't wait for the party to begin...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am Uncle Michael:

Who has the talking stick?
Avatar 9:14am Van in DC:

I've actually commented on the "active" playlist the night before the show ha ha ha
Avatar 9:14am ausmanx:

i think i understand... what a caring and knowledgeable community it is. and somehow this mariachi seems so much more an 11 pm thing than a 9 am thing. shame i'm at work. time for coffee for me too, though, i'll join ? with a brew.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:14am listener james from westwood:

i defer to doug; i can't drive stick!
Avatar 9:15am ndbob:

Avatar 9:16am hyde:

y'know, i actually made a playlist of all my latino music just this morning. coincidence? i think not.
Avatar 9:16am ausmanx:

damn weird soundtrack to the Chinese Buddhist vampire film i'm subtitling, too....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Doug Schulkind:

Van holds the world record for earliest comment. I usually create the playlist page the evening before the show. Enterprising Drummerstreamers will be able to find it and add their early commentage. (Comments made before the playlist page is "live" get emailed to me so I will know.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am Doug Schulkind:

Anyone else experiencing drop-outs? I haven't seen any stream interruptions on this end.
Avatar 🥁 9:18am duke:

Chinese Buddhist vampire film with a mariachi sound track - sounds like something I want to see

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am Doug Schulkind:

My wife was just in Sydney last December. I dedicated a radio show to her visit: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Doug Schulkind:

No ndbob, I really appreciate the heads-ups. Since I can't monitor the stream (because of the long Internet delay with the audio) I am often the last to know when there's a service interruption. Always please do let me know!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am Doug Schulkind:

No need to leave that hole, ever, Hyde.

Good morning dear Jessie! I was just referencing your trip to Australia. Our fellow GTDRer Ausmanx (see comments above) is listening from Sydney.
Avatar 9:37am ausmanx:

this is completely weird, had long chat with my partner about Sylvie Vartan this week (and how awful she looks these days) and the another chat about Ewa Demarczyk after finding a reference to her in a book by my hero, John Berger. she is extraordinary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am Uncle Michael:

Hang in there, Jessie...rock and roll coming up at noon! ;)
Avatar 9:41am Van in DC:

Jessie is in the local area here? I recommend lunch at Mitsitam cafe in the Smithsonian American Indian museum :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Doug Schulkind:

Ausmanx, make sure to pronounce Berger's last name Bare-ZHARE. As a young editorial assistant 30 years ago, I once got scolded by his American publisher for pronouncing it BURR-ger. (How silly.)
Avatar 9:41am dc pat:

Kuupuu! nice.
Avatar 9:45am ausmanx:

what, cos he's living in France? dear oh dear, some publishers are such wankers. hey, jessie. i was in DC for 5 weeks back in January, so it was an unheralded exchange program, perhaps.
Avatar 9:46am ndbob:

@Van looks like an interesting menu - maybe I will check it out on my trip east this summer
Avatar 9:47am Van in DC:

I went there just a few days ago hoping to get a Venison meat pie but that menu was already over :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Jeff Golick:

Having visited DC the last two summers -- the kids dig it -- I can second Van's recommendation for the American Indian museum. Best museum grub on the Mall, that we could find, anyway.

And the one from the label, http://palilalia.com/tagged/performance, just to round and/or spike things out.

I'm here! I'm...here.... Just...drying...off....
Don't mind me; I'll just collapse in this corner for a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am Uncle Michael:

Just push my hair clippings to the side, Jeff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Doug Schulkind:

dc pat, with your comment "aw," you came very close to providing the name of this album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am Jeff Golick:

Too late, UM. I'm covered.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:25am Brian in UK:

This has a twang of Thomas Maphumo about it. He is supposed to be playing Field Day in London tomorrow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Doug Schulkind:

I hear what you're hearing, Brian in UK. I wonder if the guitar here is mimicking the sound of the sanza (or kalimba) the way Mapfumo's guitar mimics the sound of the mbira.
Avatar 11:28am Carmichael:

OK, Dougie me boy and the summation of drummahs. It's only 8:30 AM, and my supervisory duties have made me near-homicidal. Alas, I have no hatchet nearby. Doug, can you play something to transcendentalize me?
  11:31am Paul Sherratt:

Hi Brian,
North Staffs tan intact. Btw don't think Dieuf has any Handsome Family twang about it ! ( Playing up the road, this evening )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Doug Schulkind:

Is transcendentalizing anything like Simonizing, Carmichael?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Uncle Michael:

Pacific Standard Simonize 'em.
Avatar 🥁 11:32am duke:

In the mean time, keep all sharp objects away from carmichael
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:34am Brian in UK:

@Paul a few years ago I had two CDs in my hand, one by The Handsome Family, t'other by Outcast. I could only buy one. Any guesses. Hey Yah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Doug Schulkind:

Hi Artie!
Avatar 11:35am Carmichael:

I'd settle for simonizing, martinizing, or super-sizing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Uncle Michael:

Coming up at the top of the hour, Three Hour Newmanizing.
