Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Thanks for listening to this episode of The Dusty Show. I enjoyed getting back outside and on the streets again and talking to people. So many interesting minds and thoughts and characters, As tough as things get there is a resilience in people that is truly inspiring.

As for Boston, it's hard to really wrap my mind around it. These events are so shocking and horrific, and seem to occur with such frequency lately that it's hard to process them. I try to put myself in the place of someone who lost someone in the bombings, or who was injured by them. It's hard to even imagine. The silver lining of heroism and community is always heartening to see.

As for the background check fail, I don't think it can stand. I do think reason and the will of the people will prevail.

Enough windbaggery from me. I hope you liked the show. It was fun to play some of my recent flea acquisitions. I've also been enjoying your visits to Pigeonnaires and Clay Pigeon WFMU on Facebook. Twitter, too. Social Media is such a weird blessing/curse. For the moment, the experiment continues ... and I guess that goes for The Dusty Show, too. For the moment, the experiment continues. I'm glad you are along for the ride. Sincerely. Thanks. CPNYC41399

Greenbaum reportedly lives off royalties from this song - albeit modestly. Hats off to him.

Pete from Boston (and NJ):

What state does background checks for a driver's license?
Avatar 6:07pm
david_:

Good Q, pete. and it must be state by state. I know NH lets 15 year-olds drive without a permit.
Avatar 6:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

Things are changing, albeit too slow to take effective action...the NRA would just be throwing lobby money away if there weren't real grassroots opposition to gun control. There are a few thousand single-issue voters on guns in each state, and in many smaller states that's the difference between winning and losing an election for those politicians. The only way to pushback...is to come up with more single-issue voters in favor of gun control.
  6:08pm
dale:

my wife gets so mad when i say that - she thinks i'm an ignoramous on purpose, which i am
Avatar 6:09pm
Matt from Springfield:

@david: I thought all the states raised it to 16, at the risk of losing federal highway funding.
Avatar 6:09pm
Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I've never lived in one. I would be more surprised if such a thing existed than I would if this guy is simply misinformed.

I don't own a gun. Never have. I don't like the idea of other people having them and I don't. It's that simple with me.
Avatar 6:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

We've discussed this before on this show, but I like Canada's example. They also have a lot like the US, but everyone has to take training and get checked off by the RCMP--that's the best way to do it.
Avatar 6:13pm
Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Gun control is a complicated issue for me. I want to be safe, and yet, I don't know that gun control does more than seem like a safe idea. Sometimes I feel like it's a distraction from the real problems. But I just don't know.
Avatar 6:13pm
glenn:

je me souviens.
Avatar 6:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: Most people think mostly that the NRA is mostly batshit crazy. Course that's prob a badge of honor to the NRA.
  6:14pm
dale:

my wife's sister and bro in law keep loaded handguns on every nitestand. when she stayed with them she was afraid the alarm would go off and she would hit the gun and blow her brains out. people are weird and scared. i'm not a hunter, but if you use all you take and that's all i'm okay with it
Avatar 6:14pm
david_:

I think grassroots support for the 2nd amendment is real, but it has been hijacked and processed by the lobbies, much like the taxation issue. Also we should remember that some of the same people who benefit from guns benefit from war toys...

I think hunters should have to use a bow and arrow. All other guns should be illegal to citizens.
Avatar 6:16pm
