The Psychemagik was a great relief in my overheated office - thanks! What to you think of the Ex-Cops album as compared to demos & live stuff? I seem to almost always prefer the latter...

I spent an awful lot of time with that David Crosby solo LP in sixth grade. Makes me cringe now but I actually quite like that Psychemagik rework.

I Like that Jeremy!

did Irwin just sneak into the studio and put this one on?
Avatar 12:49pm

Hey, Kat, If I Could Only Remember My Name is a fantastic album, way ahead of its time. Nothing to cringe about, unless things like Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes also make you cringe (and maybe they do - de gustibus non disputandum est).

@Jshatan you're correct, Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes not my cup of tea either, although I am awfully fond of bonivererotica.tumblr.com :) I do have at least one friend who loves the Crosby LP and wasn't even born when it came out. To each her own.

Avatar 1:29pm
Eli:

You the man, D!
Avatar 1:35pm
PKNY:

Wow, this Free track is dope! If only classic rock stations would delve into the back catalogs of bands instead of playing "All Right Now" for the millionth time, the world would be a better place.
Avatar 1:35pm
Duane:

PKNY: Agreed!! "All right now" was the worst song imo..but the albums are so, so, sick!
Avatar 1:35pm
Jshatan:

Me too, Jan. He was no slouch - blue eyed soul singing and canny synth work.
Avatar 1:37pm
Jshatan:

True about Free - The Stealer is incredible. Betty Lavette did a fantastic cover in the 70's.
Avatar 1:38pm
steve:

hey PKNY, how are things in Poughkeepsie? do you listen to WVKR much?
Avatar 1:39pm
Eli:

man. heavy. Johns was such a huge talent.
Avatar 1:45pm
PKNY:

@Steve - while I was born and raised in Poughkeepsie, I moved to NJ a few years ago, but I still ride hard for the Power Kingdom. I grew up listening to WVKR and still listen occasionally on the Interwebs, I gotta say WFMU has better programming.
Avatar 1:51pm
robyn:

that is a very classy way to acknowledge thatcher duane. nice job and ditto.
Avatar 1:51pm
steve:

cool! i agree, FMU has far better programming than VKR (and every other college radio station). having lived in the same building as VKR for three years, it will always have a special place in my heart.
Avatar 1:54pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Lionel Hampton played the winter formal at Vassar one of the years I was there... It was awesome.
  1:54pm
drewo:

But WFMU is not a college station! It graduated many years ago to independence! I also grew up in Po-town and listened to a nascent VKR in the late 70's. I also bought lots of import vinyl at the Vassar record shop (called Cardinal Puff). The students who worked there didn't notice when I adjusted the price tags on some of that expensive vinyl.
Avatar 1:57pm

are you serious Jan? thats amazing. and does that mean you are also a VC alum?

Jan: That is an Amazing story!!

Mercer Ellington did another formal at some point...
Avatar 2:00pm

maybe after your time but one of my vc art history profs (Brian Lukacher) was a record dealer at the 2011 fmu record fair! that guy is awesome.
Avatar 2:00pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Of course Flock of Seagulls played Vassar one year...
Avatar 2:05pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

@Steve, I'm not sure of Lukacher was there when i was...

That Ensemble Al-Salaam track was a nice slow burn.
Avatar 2:13pm

Did you ever hear the one where Cosby makes fun of Hendrix? He obviously hated rock & roll.
Avatar 2:15pm
Duane:

JShatan: I did hear that..i actually love that song! HAHA
Avatar 2:19pm
Jshatan:

You're a better man than I, Duane!
Avatar 2:19pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

I think that Cosby would make fun of this these days...
Avatar 2:20pm
steve:

i guess i should look it up but cant compute Bill Cosby being associated with this soulful jam
Avatar 2:24pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

@Steve, the Cosby of the "Cosby Show" was not the Cosby of the 60s and early 70s
Avatar 2:25pm
Duane:

Big "You the Man/woman" who can name the movie where this song was featured..and what scene..80's film
Avatar 2:27pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Trading places... But i can't remember the scene
Avatar 2:29pm
Duane:

You the man Jan!! The Bar scene when Billy Ray just got "out the tank..braggin about his limoo-seen"..
"Yeah"
Avatar 2:29pm

I just found I get a new channel called "COZI TV" that plays re-runs, namely I-Spy. Seeing Bill Cosby being a snarky side kick is weird.

Oh robyn, don't think twice, it's alright. We're fine with the occasional dip in lake "hot gay cowboy strippers".
Avatar 2:43pm
robyn:

everyone was thinking it.
Avatar 2:45pm
Caryn:

@robyn: Well, hopefully I would've been, but sadly, stream was out for about 2 minutes there, so now I feel I've missed something interesting.
Avatar 2:48pm
Jennique:

Gotta go back and re-listen to Bobbie, was out of my office at the time. Are there any other kind of gay cowboy stripper other than hot? Would not want to see a *meh* gay cowboy stripper.
  2:51pm
paula pc:

taking me back and back and back
Avatar 2:51pm
robyn:

eh you could get weird with it. think "clermont lounge."
Avatar 2:51pm
fearson:

i'm sure the internet can find you an unattractive gay cowboy stripper if you try hard enough
Avatar 2:53pm
Caryn:

Of course, it all comes down to taste. If you're not into bears, I'm sure some gay cowboy strippers are not your bag. And if you're not into twinks, or guys who are too manscaped, then too. Probably more *meh* straight cowboy strippers, though. At least I suspect so.
Avatar 2:59pm

Peace, Duane! Thanks for the tunes...
