The only thing I know about Derek Jeter is that he was born in my town...and that he is apparently good at baseballing.

Hey, all.

how is it possible that people still don't understand to turn their radio down when they call in?

It's USA vs. Mexico tomorrow in World Cup qualifying.

I don't give a rat's ass about sports, but I'm happy to hear Bronwyn on the air.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm

I'm with you, Wendy. I'd prefer Cheesy talk
Avatar 6:16pm
steve:

same here Wendy. also, i love the name "Sportsy Talk", because it sounds so un-masculine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm

Me four.

Mike, we can talk about the sport of chasing wheels of cheese down big hills. WOOOO!
Avatar 6:17pm

mike east: I wonder the same thing (about the not turning down the radio)

Newburgh is in Orange County! It is across the river from Beacon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm
Mike East:

I could get into that sport, Wendy...as long as the prize is you get to keep the cheese.

@sugarwolf- I would expect more from FMU listeners, too. That was a lesson I can remember learning at a very young age. dummies.

Toughest part of brackets is seeding. You want to ensure a fair fight in the end.

Newburgh, NY, is on the west side of the Hudson River, in Orange County. Interstate 84 goes over the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge.

So Costa Rica's protest of the World Cup snow match against the U.S. was denied.

This reminds me of what I think is probably the funniest FIFA ruling ever:

You do care, Danne! Even for NASCAR! Even heading down south to see NASCAR! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Well, of course they didn't invalidate the Uzbekistan-Bahrain result. The referee committed a technical error, but not an egregious technical error.
Avatar 6:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

@steve Listeners would be more concerned with what song is playing while they're at bat, instead of trying to hit the ball! ;)
Avatar 6:40pm

There's Yankees, and anti-Yankees. You don't even need to know about baseball to fit into that dichotomy.

Hi Bronwyn, I sent a book to you c/o WFMU, over a month ago...do you have a mailbox at the station? It's by P. O'Brian, a Welsh story..did you receive it?
Avatar 6:42pm
steve:

Matt i think whatever happens, it would be the most entertaining thing imaginable.
Avatar 6:42pm
Danne D:

@Ken From Hyde Park.

They DID invalidate the result.

Originally Uzbekistan had won 1-0. They protested that the referee screwed up and they unfairly were denied a penalty kick. They asked that FIFA award them a 3-0 victory.

FIFA basically said "You're right, Uzbekistan. The referee screwed up. Therefore the ENTIRE game should be replayed." Basically the Uzbeks screwed themselves by getting greedy and making this protest.

Ralphine:

Not every school has a nuclear reactor, Bronwyn.
Avatar 6:43pm

(in the do-over game Uzbekistan tied Bahrain 1-1). They lost the other leg and it cost them a chance to play for a spot in the World Cup.

LOL Tebow was at the airport where Wichita State was at the same time. Thus the pep talk was impromptu.

God decided Wichita State deserved Tim Tebow.

Bronwyn, please don't get me started on home-schooling.

I really hate that NC has West Carolina and East Carolina Universities, Americans are so poor with geography, they'll think that "East Carolina" is a state!!!

How come New Mexico made the tournament? We're letting other countries play now?
Avatar 6:47pm

@Danne If East Carolina becomes good enough at football, maybe it should be a state! ;)

@BGZ while my dad was an auto mechanic alas the only automotive skill he passed on to me was the innate ability to sense if something's wrong with my car.

@M_f_S East Carolina has had some good teams.

NO! The gun nuts are hoarding the ammo, that's why! (Or the "tin hats", as the caller calls them.) Since DHS has the Border Patrol and a bunch of other police forces, 1.6 bill bullets a year is probably what they use every year.
Avatar 6:52pm

LeMons is a blast if you ever have the chance to go. The competitive spirit is matched by the creativity, humor, and mutually-supportive friendly atmosphere.

Bronwyn have you seen the new PGA 2014 video game ad with Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods? All the violence of golf and none of the humility [sponsorship by cadillac's humble right?]

I went to UMass. Once enough of them get drunk and together, a particular subset of UMass kids thinks nothing about throwing anything nearby at the nearest cop, Yankee fan, or minority. Not a proud reputation in this regard.
