Hello and happy pre-T-day, Listener James!
  12:00pm
Doug S.:

Love that waggin' pup! You are so good with dogs, Amanda!
  12:01pm
Carmichael:

Hi Amanda and soon-to-be gobblers.
  12:04pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Who has two thumbs, speaks limited French and gets to listen to the whole show live 'cause they don't have a meeting today?

:points at self: THIS MOI!!!
  12:05pm
Brian in UK:

Hello Amanda, james front row of the grid agin, Carmichael & new boy Doug S. Bonjoor BGZ.
  12:05pm
Carmichael:

Wow, nice cover! Way to fuzz up that guitar!
  12:06pm
listener james from westwood:

brian: one of the front-row nerds. that's me all over!
bg0: my meeting was canceled too. uninterrupted scenario ahoy!

Hey Carmichael, BGZ, Brian in UK! Doug -- who knew I was as good with cows?!

GIVE THE DRUMMER RADIO PROGRAMMING ALERT...
Charlie Lewis is taking tomorrow off, so no Busy Doing Nothing...

BUT, I am all yippity-yippity to announce that Matt Fiveash from our sister stream Rock & Soul Ichiban will be live on the Drummer Stream tomorrow, noon to 3pm.

Tune in and chomp down on some tasty radio!
  12:13pm
Brian in UK:

A herd of nerds.
  12:18pm
Carmichael:

I have this Spizz on a punk compilation CD I found at Goodwill. Also has the Freshies, the Nips and the Sniveling Shits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
Amanda:

Nice score, Carmichael!
  12:21pm
listener james from westwood:

itchy drummer! good news on the fiveash front.
  12:34pm
Carmichael:

I take it this is a Protestant hymn of some kind?
  12:36pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I am not thankful for it being high 70s/low 80s this week.
  12:36pm
listener james from westwood:

the only hymns i remember are "jerusalem" (which my church didn't sing; learned it from python) and the time our church had us sing the our father to "as tears go by."
  12:36pm
Gaylord Fields:

I love the 21st century, and not just because I can listen to the Nazario Scenario here in Reykjavik. I'm old enough that this technological possibility is still a bit wondrous.
  12:37pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

The Hives are opening for Pink. What the effing eff???
  12:40pm
Carmichael:

I thought this was Cheap Trick on 1st listen.
  12:41pm
listener james from westwood:

i hear ya, gaylord. hell, the fact that folks can take the mike in oregon, vermont, jerz, penn, and other parts for the same stream is damned amazing to me.
also: iceland! that's pretty damn cool too, no pun intended.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm
Amanda:

Hi Gaylord! Thanks for chiming in as I played the Hives -- they've got to be a short cab ride away from you right now. Or maybe I should've gone with the Sugarcubes.
  12:48pm
Matt from Springfield:

A nice pre-Thanksgiving appetizer today, Amanda!
Hi everyone!
  12:49pm
Matt from Springfield:

"Mirrors on the ceiling / And Gaylord on Ice (land)" -- awesome being in Iceland! Is it night time all the time, this time of year?
  12:49pm
Matt from Springfield:

The Sundays!!!
  12:50pm
listener james from westwood:

agreed. sundays sundays sundays!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm
Amanda:

I play this Condo Fucks track a whole lot, but guess what? It's worth playing a whole lot.
  12:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

With "Indian Giver" earlier, that's at least 2 pretty faithful covers of 60s hits today.
  12:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

ABBA?
  12:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

ABBA!
  12:56pm
BDR:

Bjork is 47 today (if you Bjork, HINT!)
  12:57pm
Gaylord Fields:

Amanda, I've had my fill of lyrics sung in Hopelandic, so it's better that you steer clear of Icelandic tunes. That Gus Gus retrospective is better heard some other time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Amanda:

Today is her birthday! They're smoking cigars!
  12:59pm
BDR:

NO! please, not that one. Anyone but that one!
  1:00pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I believe that Bjork is only 47 inches tall. Maybe she grows an inch per year.
  1:01pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Matt: Yesterday I literally was on ice, as I strolled across the (thankfully solid) Tjornin Lake.
  1:01pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hey, first rule about Mix Club, you don't talk about Mix Club!
  1:02pm
Gaylord Fields:

@BDR: Shhhhhhh! You'll spoil the birthday surprise I have for her.
  1:04pm
Matt from Springfield:

Sounds great Gaylord! I'd like to walk on a solid ice lake someday. (Well I walked on a Virginia creek during the one time it froze, during the Blizzard of '96. But I walked onto a narrow part and fell through, so I'd like to walk on ice, and STAY on ice)
  1:05pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I think you play The Condo Fucks to flaunt the fact that you get to say Condo Fucks during your show unlike Joe and Evan and Liz and Scott and Terre. Stupid FCC.
  1:06pm
Carmichael:

You can whisk the merengue, but your arm will likely fall off.
  1:07pm
listener james from westwood:

i walked on a very solid ice lake with my scout troop once. the pack leader was actually able to drive a jeep out onto the lake too, it was so deeply frozen. wild to be able to see the shore from the middle of water i wasn't floating in.
  1:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

Yay Amanda! Best of luck to your pie!
(It's more work, but you can def beat egg whites the old fashioned way, with a whisk. Make sure it rises carefully, and bakes but doesn't burn.)
  1:09pm
listener james from westwood:

my uncle made a lemon meringue pie once. got the peaks all nice and high. unfortunately the oven was too hot and the peaks got a bit too dark. ever the pragmatist, he snipped them off with scissors.
  1:09pm
ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
  1:11pm
Carmichael:

I chef-ed my way through college, and learned from the hardcore CIA chefs. I had to whisk whipped cream by hand in an ice bath. It was not fun, but it built character (their words, as they laughed).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm
Amanda:

hey ndbob!
  1:12pm
Gaylord Fields:

@James: It's pretty freaky at first, but then you notice everyone else's nonchalance. I'm going out for a second stroll on tne lake in a few minutes, with Amanda's indulgence.
  1:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

If you can't have a good outcome, at least have good karma to come out of it. WFMU's lucky for that.

One day, LJFW. That will be me!
Afternoon NDBob!
  1:14pm
listener james from westwood:

ndbob in the house!
  1:14pm
Carmichael:

Hey Bob!
  1:14pm
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, it's the late 60s "Baby It's You" cover by Smith--this is the only one by them I'm familiar with. It's a Dunhill ABC record, so Clay P. will certainly know more about them!
  1:14pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I love this Smith song!
  1:16pm
ndbob:

Gayle McCormick - the singer here - made some nice solo records
  1:19pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

@ndbob: I'll have to track down some of her solo stuff. Thanks for the tip!
  1:21pm
ndbob:

@BadGuy her song "It's a Crying Shame" was a minor hit in 1971.
  1:23pm
Brian in UK:

Wot no PLEDGES!!!
  1:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

Despite the name "Paleo", this song is quite new. And nice! Is he/they typically this acoustic, or is this a demo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
Amanda:

Oof! Gaylord, go ahead on your walk. Sorry to keep you waiting.

Glad you all liked the Smith so much!
  1:25pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

@ndbob: I vaguely remember that song from my childhood. Haven't heard it in years. I'll give it a listen later. Thanks again!
  1:32pm
SteveL:

Tryptophan fumes. Pot smoking. Family friction.

Gotta love the holidays.
  1:33pm
listener james from westwood:

amanda, you've probably answered this a ton of times before, but what is this symphonic bed music from? it has a classic, 40s-movie soundtrack to it, like something you'd hear over the closing titles to "chinatown" if it had had a happy ending.
  1:33pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

<singing> Betcha he reads, betcha she sews, maybe she's made me a closet of clothes... </singing>
  1:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

In that case Paleo's songs are more-or-less demos, recorded daily as they were written. Will check to see if they're still posted.
  1:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

@LJFW: From someone who's asked before, :) it's "Maybe", from the Annie musical, played by the London Philharmonic or other such orchestra.
  1:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

And as BGZ points out, Amanda sung a bit of it (last?) week.

Don't worry Amanda, I'm certainly "chiming in"! In conversation or playlist, it's not cliche--it's what one does!
  1:40pm
listener james from westwood:

aha! the mystery solved. thanks, matt!
from "500 miles": "whatever the fuck that means!"—that was a literal LOL on this side.
  1:41pm
listener james from westwood:

i see "paleo," i envision they're all songs about avoiding processed carbs and eating as much meat on the hoof as one can catch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
Amanda:

Thank you, MfS, for fielding that question. And hi, SteveL!
  1:43pm
Matt from Springfield:

@LJFW: A "paleo" Caveman diet? :)
  1:47pm
Doug S.:

listener james from westwood:

@matt: yes, i think the caveman term's been used for paleo. brontoburgers for all!
  1:51pm
Matt from Springfield:

Brontoburgers! And whatever those giant ribs are that cause your car to tip over!
  1:52pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

More songs referencing Cleveland, please! I'll be there in a couple of weeks. I hope it's cold. It's warm enough to go swimming down here. Low 80s temp on Thanksgiving is not something I'm thankful for.
  1:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

Yay Doug! You can see the upcoming songs again - stability and functionality starting to return!

I'm glad you mentioned that the stream is "semi-random"; I noticed when you post the upcoming artists that it tends to stick with certain genres for 3 or so songs, before transitioning over into a new mini-set of another style.
  1:53pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Today's show is only two hours???
  1:56pm
ndbob:

excellent show Amanda!
  1:56pm
Doug S.:

@Matt from Springfield
I can tell the stream which categories of songs to play and I can determine which songs are in which categories, but the only the stream knows which actual songs it's gonna select.
  1:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: For now, anyway. The Scenario was 2 hours when it began, then was 3, now it's back to 2. But GTDR is flexible--maybe Amanda will take it back to 3 some time!
  1:58pm
listener james from westwood:

hope i'm not the only who whistles along to "alone again, naturally" every week!
thanks for the fine show, amanda!
USians, have a happy thanksgiving; those abroad, be safe, be well, and be here next week!
  1:58pm
Doug S.:

It's official: Ceasefire in Gaza begins in 2 minutes...
  1:58pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Doh! I must have missed that info somewhere along the way. :(

It was nice to listen live and chat with you and all the listeners. Everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a spectacular week! Until the next time I don't have a Wednesday meeting...
  1:59pm
Stanley:

A three hour Amanda show gets my vote
  1:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Doug The fun of database thinking!

Thanks Amanda for a great show, hope you enjoy your pie!
Have a GREAT Thanksgiving everyone! (And, if you need to get rid of some leftovers, leave them backstage at GTDR for those overenthusiastic artists - they'll appreciate it!)
  2:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

PEACE and Thanksgiving, to all yinse!
