Never saw Man in the Dark myself, but he was great in DOA. Looking at his films, surprised to see he was in Wild Bunch!

any truth to the rumor that the label for the Royal Flairs had "One Pink Box" misprinted on it?

I concur w/ Philo. DOA was a superb film.

Gang War! Rumble! Juvenile Delinquents! Great song.

Dunno about pine vs. pink, but bet it s.b. "The LightNing Strikes" for anyone who cares about such.

See you last played this in October 2010 -- do you have a year this came out [Eller Davis]?

Mike East:
Hey Philo - I've got "For a Few Dollars More" waiting for me when I get home today...completing the trilogy.
1:49pm
Philo Gristle:
Hi Mike! Honey's off to do some work, but sends her regards. I trust The Man With No Name will help with the headache of having to work on a Saturday!
1:53pm
Mike East:
@Philo - That's my thinking exactly...Though I have been watching some Doctor Who at work since its slow, so I shouldn't complain too much. I hope you two enjoy your day.
1:56pm
Philo Gristle:
Thanks Mike! At least they let you listen to WFMU at work -- that's better than my place which frowns on streaming. So the new Dr. Who any good? I've only ever seen the 'classic' shows. Love old Brit tv.
1:58pm
Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:
Don't forget THE GIRL CAN'T HELP IT with Edmund!
1:59pm
Tom:
Shield for Murder is available on DVD. It's pricey at $23!
2:00pm
Philo Gristle:
Frank Tashlin! Admittedly I've never seen TGCHI......
2:03pm
Mike East:
yes, my bosses are pretty lax. New Dr. Who is pretty good...took me a minute to get into it, but I watched it with my very reluctant 7 yr old daughter and she really dug it, so I'm glad we can bond over it. Its corny and witty, cheap effects, interesting plots, good writing. New Yorker review got me on board.
2:04pm
Little Richard:
The Gristle Can't Help it!
2:07pm
Philo Gristle:
We should catch it sometime; Honey & I both like good science fiction and that sounds like great fun. The box sets are just a tad expensive so we haven't yet made the plunge...
2:10pm
Mike East:
I do the netflix thing...its all available streaming.
2:11pm
Philo Gristle:
We'll probably watch WILD BUNCH this weekend, Honey got me the Peckinpah westerns set as a b'day gift and it has both Edmund O'Brien and Ernest Borgnine in it.... It's been probably 15 years since I've last seen it.
2:12pm
Philo Gristle:
Ah, that's the way to go. We've got Roku player with hulu plus but no netflix.
2:13pm
Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:
GCHI is a must. Little Richard, Treniers, Eddiie Cochran....
2:13pm
Philo Gristle:
L'il Richard, didn't you make an appearance in GIRL? The best modern rock'n'roll movie is Jim McBride's GREAT BALLS OF FIRE.
2:16pm
Philo Gristle:
@LJiP You pre-empted my question. Thanks!
2:17pm
Mike East:
Wild Bunch is a good one. Enjoy.
2:19pm
Philo Gristle:
Will do. Honey's not a huge western fan, but she enjoys them in small doses. Did you see Once Upon a Time in the West yet? Perfect cap to the trilogy.
2:20pm
Edmond O'Brien:
I once recited Shakespeare with Keith Moon at Sam Peckinpah's surprise birthday party.
2:22pm
Mike East:
No, but its available streaming! Thanks for the tip. This is why I comment!
2:24pm
Mike East:
...and just for the record, I will be watching these without my wife. Not really her cuppa tea, either.
2:25pm
Philo Gristle:
Excellent! GREAT opening. The rest of it is fantastic, but the whatever 20 minute opening gunfight is brilliant (about 30 seconds of action).
Honey liked OUATITW and the Leone westerns more than most. Great music, sense of humor and drama, and not just all shootouts from beginning to end.
