When I managed the music department at a Borders we got stuck with a couple thousand of those Elton John "Candle In The Wind" CD singles. They were non-returnable so eventually I started scanning 150-200 a month out as destroyed.

And that's what we did. WE DESTROYED THEM! We taped them to our shoes and skated around. We hit them with hammers. Hijinks ensued.

When I lived in Seattle there was a guy that would press 78s of some local jazz bands. He would have the release parties at his house and cover the floor with the records so that they would get good and scratchy during the party.
