Never Too Much mixage   Smoosh from The American Bandstand 40th Anniversary broadcast feat. ultra sexy Luther Vandross live set. Plus Nicole, German top-40 camp circa 1986. All squished up and modded for your enjoyment.  0:00:00 (Pop-up)

Interview with Melissa F. Clark at WFMU   Melissa F. Clarke works in data sonification. She takes measurements gathered by sonar and other measurements from glaciers - and then turns that into sound. For those listening in the NYC area, Melissa is performing live this Saturday at Invisible Dog Art Center - full info here. Below is a nice visual representation of her sounds...

An installation view at 319 Scholes.

Melissa F. Clarke speaks! Live at WFMU   Melissa recently completed a successful Kickstarter to send her to the arctic. In August, she'll be going to the very end of the earth to make observations, recordings, etc to make her nest major work "After The Ice".  0:49:55 (Pop-up)

The Smoosh Zone   featuring Ernie Kovacs, Dylan Nyoukis' baby, Vertonen, Daphne Oram...The Fat Boys just got a new reissue, packaged inside a pizza box!  1:06:48 (Pop-up)
New Jams from Sun Araw + M. Geddes Gengras   Whoa!!! This disc is called FRKWYS Vol. 9: Icon Give Thank. On RVNG Intl.  1:25:56 (Pop-up)

Hans Leeuw and Diemo Schwarz live at WFMU

This was recorded a few weeks back and Diemo kindly took the time to remaster this take! Excellent work made using ADVANCED Max/MSP work and a hybrid acoustic/electric trumpet. More info is at my archive from a few weeks ago, with more live recordings and an interview...right here.

1:37:18 (Pop-up)
Folke Rabe and Jan Bark   Track called Argh! Amazing. A kaleidoscopic cut-up of top-40 songs and top-40 announcers. Love it to death. This was 1965. Do you believe that? Oh my god. Ahead of its time is an understatement.  1:49:26 (Pop-up)
Zalatnay Sarolta   Hell yeah!!!  1:58:22 (Pop-up)
Savage Rose   Hell yeah!!!!!  2:03:58 (Pop-up)
Alex Goldstein   remix of Drake! Hell yeah!!!!  2:04:50 (Pop-up)

Fat Boys   Couldn't stay away for too long...this reissue is served hot in a pizza box. Out on Tin Pan Apple records.  2:21:12 (Pop-up)
Alex Goldstein   his project Harpoon Forever. This track, which samples the seminal recording artists Van Halen (late period, mind you), is off a new split with Henry Hynes of Home Blitz fame. Jersey pride.  2:29:50 (Pop-up)
Don Preston   Synth Wizard from the Mothers of Invention. He just got a reissue on Sub Rosa called "Filters, Oscillators & Envelopes" on Sub Rosa.  2:37:02 (Pop-up)

Here's a somewhat topic related share; underwater sound project that let's you listen live to the sounds of the Antarctic Ocean. Lot's of drones and squeals, sea life, unknowns and sometimes the sound of an occasional glacier crashing into the sea.

I appreciated Melissa's Clarke's work much more before I heard her talk about her process. How can anyone not make actual site recordings if they are in such special places?
  1:38am
Future Mike:

Once I was in the northern Territories of Canada for a month doing science, and I needed to estimate the depth of a frozen lake. I used a Palm Pilot and sledge hammer to try and get reflections through the ice and off the lake bottom. It didn't work.
