Favoriting May 23, 2012: Eating Lay's while listening to Hall & Oates

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

Track Comments Approx. start time
FMA mix   All songs taken from the Free Music Archive. Free to download, as the Lord intended music to be. Trax from Singing Sadie, Nite Jewel, a ton from the historical section, Ariel Pink, Death Grips...Noise+textures from C Spencer Yeh, Pulse Emitter, couple others.  0:00:00 (Pop-up)

Reconstructing Jaco   A computer, using OMax software, listened to a Jaco Pastorius CD and then rewrote the song according to rules it taught itself from the original song. Check out the software here!  0:27:48 (Pop-up)
David Buddin   music "generated from a single six-note ordered set and its canonical transformations." Loving the keyboard presets. New release on ugExplode called "Canticles for Electronic Music".  0:29:21 (Pop-up)
Susanne Ciani tv spot   Susanne Ciani explaining the basics of synthesis for a children's TV show. Check it. There's really...suggestive body language between these two women. Sorta odd.

btw, the Google homepage today has a working Moog simulator dealy. Moog's B-day. What a cool, hip multinational tech conglomerate you guys.

0:33:44 (Pop-up)
DJ Female Convict Scorpion   New CD called "Clash-Ups III". Self released as usual, I'm always into her (?) stuff. Turntables and a sampler...  0:41:02 (Pop-up)
Sickness live at Ende Tymes fest 2012   Yes! It is up already. Maybe my favorite set from this 3-day noise and experimental fest. Torsten Meyer videotaped it for viewing right about here.  0:47:57 (Pop-up)

Susanne Ciani gettin spiritual   The song "The Fifth Wave: Water Lullaby". Hell yeah. Bit like Vangelis. Lovin it.  1:01:45 (Pop-up)
Italo intermix   Splicing together megamixes of CC Catch and Sandra.  1:07:14 (Pop-up)
Justice Yeldham   Dude came out with a new picture 12"...

It looks like this...

If you're not familiar, Justice Yeldham attaches a contact mic to sheets of glass and plays the glass with his face. Best live act in noise on the planet??

1:17:18 (Pop-up)
Doris Norton   Super great electronic music made on an early "Apple personal computer"...but there's got to be more to her equipment...gotta look that up. Very Kraftwerk.  1:20:15 (Pop-up)
New Black Dice!   Yaaaay! They still rule. Performing next Saturday afternoon with Extreme Animals in the back yard of Secret Project Robot...Brooklyn still rules.  1:26:56 (Pop-up)
New Eric Copeland!   Dude from Black Dice....yaaaay!!! He still rules. CD's called Limbo.  1:35:56 (Pop-up)
MMM   New double disc comp of Shangaan remixage on Honest Jons called Shangaan Shake.  1:36:15 (Pop-up)
Paul + Linda McCartney   Oh fuck it. I'm playing Paul McCartney.  1:41:46 (Pop-up)
The listener 12 minutes and 23 seconds   This special edition brought to you by listener Emile. Audiosmoosh from his own radio show from 2006. My listeners are the coolest!  1:55:12 (Pop-up)
Louis Pagan   New project from Teaadora.  2:08:09 (Pop-up)
Hall & Oates in context   Me listening to Hall & Oates with friends in the car on the way to prospect park. Then a recording Brian Turner made from outside the Prospect Park bandshell during a Hall & Oates performance. Cute kid dancing to H&O on Youtube. Somebody recording a Hall & Oates live set on their iPhone.  2:10:45 (Pop-up)
The listener 3 minutes and 30 seconds!   More from Emile's radio show.  2:30:42 (Pop-up)
Reading the Lay's chips facebook page comments.     2:43:49 (Pop-up)
John Jacob Niles singing in falsetto while I eat crackers and laugh at the Lay's chips facebook comments     2:47:36 (Pop-up)

Orange juice has changed recently, too. Instead of 64 ounces, now it's 59 in a carton. What a scam!

Veronica:

Hi Nat, Fred & Ken...Great show so far. I just watched that Suzanne Ciani interview on YouTube about a month ago...she's so cool. I didn't notice the "suggestive body language"...that's how women talk to each other about electronic music ;-)
Avatar 3:53am
Nat:

I dunno, look at the way the interviewer is sort of holding her hand on Susanne's chair...I know I'm not the only person who's reads that into it. But Susanne is amazing, nonetheless. Glad she's getting some of her material reissued.

Veronica:

Funny she did Atari ads. Thanks for playing more of her!

He's a nice dude, way more normal than you'd expect. He really loves Dee Lite's song "Groove is in the Heart". It's true.

Has anyone seen Lucas Abela's Vinyl Rally? I missed it, but heard it's a lot of fun. And everyone I know who met him tells me he's a really nice guy

Bonjour Nat
Bonjour fred
Bonjour Neil
Bonjour Veronica
Bonjour Ken from Hyde Park

@fred : i've won a pass to play the vinyl rally at the Palais de Tokyo, it is indeed a lot of fun, and Lucas Abela, is indeed very nice (i didn't talk with him much, he was very busy checking his cars for the rally).
  4:41am
Veronica:

I've only seen a video of Vinyl Rally too...looks fun.
  4:43am

Avatar 5:03am
Nat:

Truly, Neil.
  5:06am
Qft:

Apocrypha has is that Jimmie Hendrix released his pet parakeets there, providing the original "Adam and Eve" as it were. In any event, they aren't endemic to the UK, but thrive here now and Hyde Park is a (summer) haven for them in the urban sprawl of London. Makes the wine taste better, laying on your back in the grass, seeing parakeets....
Avatar 5:10am
Nat:

Jimmie Hendrix kept pet parakeets????? Pet birds are so weird!!!!!
  5:15am
Veronica:

Don't know why the mention of parakeets made me think of this, but it would be cool if someone did a sound installation with parrots repeating the voices and sounds in the space.
Avatar 5:19am
Nat:

Huh...sounds like something for Ubuweb.

I think the "bird and the bee" versions are very nice too! They recorded a whole album reinterpreting Hall & Oates

WHAAAAAATTTTT??????

The added air probably serves as a buffer against 'crisp crush'. I'm sure they've got a technical term for it at the Frito-Lay corporation.

Screw Lays! Here's what you need to know:
