Listener comments!

  3:02pm
Joe Bacon:

Ah, it's Irwin Time!
  3:08pm
Denise from DC:

Always a joy to hear my favorite curmudgeon.
  3:09pm
Spoiled Brats:

No sippycup, no peace!!!!!!!!
  3:10pm
Unclear on the concept:

Isn't this Amy Annelle song kind of depressing?
  3:12pm
Michael:

My daughter who's somehow reached the age of 19 in a flash it seems, still prefers her juice in the juicebox. And Hi Irwin!
  3:14pm
G:

@Unclear: This set's mood is way better than hearing Riders on the Storm and Let It Rain for the 10,000th time on a classic rock station whenever it's raining locally.
  3:16pm
Denise from DC:

The photo's a bit creepy. Did you take it, Irwin?
  3:19pm
Van in DC:

It keeps staring at me.
  3:19pm
Irwin:

More creepy pix @ the link. And some not-so-creepy.
  3:21pm
Parq:

Earlier, Ken mentioned the movie "The Cabin in the Woods". If you've seen it, you know why I bring up the subject in connection with that photo.
  3:22pm
Parq:

The photo is a link! Irwin, those other pics are stupendous.
  3:22pm
Laura L:

I see on the link you say this is a Wood Bull Bench Boy. What mannequin mother would let her boy go around in a hat like that?
  3:22pm
Denise from DC:

Hm. I thought of the child mannequin as a girl.
  3:25pm
kat330:

I thought it was a boy. The outfit, et al, looks just like JT as a kid in Finland.
  3:27pm
kat330:

@Irwin: Yes, wonderful pics at the link.
  3:29pm
Joe Bacon:

I feel so good, I need Irwin to get my James Brown cape!
  3:29pm
Carmichael:

Howdy Irwin and internetters.
  3:31pm
kat330:

Here on the Ohio River, where the steamboat race between the Belle of Louisville and the Delta Queen will happen in a few, it is hot, sunny and breezy. Finally had to turn the AC on.
  3:31pm
paula pc:

where's Ian when you need him
  3:35pm
mott:

irwin was on a roll til this Shananay dud.
  3:36pm
Parq:

Sorry, Mott. I actually have never heard a Shania T song I didn't like.
  3:37pm
ChrisB.:

Irwin! What were you doing up in Milford? Wood Bull is fun. Did you get to Cooperstown Brewing Co. or Ommegang? Maybe Hall of Fame in Cooperstown?
  3:44pm
Irwin:

@ChrisB: 19th Century Base Ball [sic] conference at the HoF.
  3:45pm
Laura L:

R.I.P. David Weiss of the great Fischli/Weiss.... You know the film "Der Lauf der Dinge" ["The Way Things Go"]? It's on youtube in 3 parts--30 spectacular min. all together.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTobV-Gnv-8
  3:45pm
ChrisB.:

Well played, my friend.
  3:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

Creepy wood mannequins, just what we need more of!
  3:50pm
kat330:

Couldn't locate the photo I was thinking of specifically, but this one shows the Finnboy/mannequin resemblance (JT's the little tough in the center)http://www.flickr.com/photos/18076072@N08/7125960631/in/photostream/lightbox/
  3:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

Miss 7SD is STILL hanging around? I think she's a $5perperson-digger...
  3:55pm
Mike East:

that is a great pic, kat330! I see the resemblence, but not nearly as creepy as that mannequin - the image of which will haunt my dreams tonight.
  3:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Nice photo--super garagey garage rock! Paint cans for drums?? With some pot and pan percussion they could have made a nice Amanda style racket!
  3:57pm
kat330:

@Matt: I'm concerned about the 7SD Bingo... jumped the shark?
And technically, they are a "cellar band" I think. :) Actually those other kids in the photo are all doing something in Finnish films. We saw a credit for the drummer as part of the crew of "Le Havre" (Kaurismaki film).
  3:59pm
kat330:

Thanks, Mike! The photographer is the father of the other three kids in the picture, neighbors of JT in Puistola, Finland.
  4:01pm
Woo:

Groovies make it allright
  4:01pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Cool, a creative bunch.

7SD would have jumped the shark many times now by regular standards, it's hard to tell just when that show will finally go overboard. In fact...7SD is probably on the flip side of that scale: it can succeed only when it fails.
  4:02pm
Carmichael:

Even after I said hello to Irwin, I still just remembered that today is Wednesday. Man, I'm getting killed here at work. What's up with 7SD?? Did Ken not take my advice to hand out steak knives to the 1st 100 people?
  4:04pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: Wednesdays are second only to Mondays at my work--first half of Wed always seems especially brutal. Irwin's show is the ideal "over the hump" celebration.
  4:05pm
Parq:

Carm, God in heaven, you want to hand out steak knives to Andy Breckman's audience?
  4:06pm
kat330:

Oh, this is nice.
  4:06pm
Carmichael:

@Parq: <snicker> Either knives or nunchuks ...
  4:08pm
Droll:

Indeed, listeners to that show are mostly tree huggers/eaters. No use for a "steak" knife, it'd be a waste... Unless they're also selling sutures and bandages at the theater, that'll be a cash cow.
  4:14pm
autumn:

eating chocolate and turkee
  4:14pm
kat330:

OK, getting a Bliss, Captain!
  4:15pm
autumn:

http://www.tazachocolate.com/
  4:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

Where's chocolate??! I must find some!! And eat to excess!!!
  4:16pm
kat330:

Oops, not Bliss but Dove dark chocolate. The inside "fortune" reads: "Live your dreams." Fait accompli.
  4:18pm
Matt from Springfield:

I must follow medical advice and eat chocolate.

Who will be the coroner--to CORONERS when they die?? That's the clue--they eat ONLY chocolate, chocolate from you when you die in fact, and it's the SAME coroners throughout time!
  4:18pm
Terry is cooking:

Dark chocolate with BBQ potato chips mixed in. I have some, you don't.
  4:20pm
Irwin:

Eat ONLY chocolate and LIVE 4EVER!!!!!!111!!1!
  4:20pm
Matt from SF:

I'm too full on split pea soup. Shoulda caught me 1/2 hour ago.
  4:21pm
Droll:

If 7SD is bingo themed, the racket must then be selling the daubers and plastic gremlins with spiked hair.
The only chocolate I have is stuck to these Chex, I'll be sure to eat the whole bag to make quota.
  4:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

Claire Judice could easily go down a Judson Fountain route with this setup.
  4:27pm
Denise from DC:

I was thinking of Judson Fountain too, Matt.
  4:27pm
kat330:

Irwin, looks like your chocolate-covered fingers were slipping off the shift key on occasion.
  4:31pm
G:

My gf loves using her iThing to shazam stuff on the radio. She liked that Ivana XL tune, and I wanred her that it was better than 50/50 it would not be in their database. It sure wasn't! :-) Playlist saves the day... We weren't sure how to spell "Ivana" from the back announce -- so many ways female names get spelled any more...
  4:33pm
still b/p:

I'm keeping a bag of Ghirardelli chocolate (60% cacao) morsels in the fridge, and a fresh bag in a cabinet. Cheaper by the pound than a good bar. And I'm hitting them pretty regular. May be a problem.
  4:35pm
glenn:

porketta bingo. http://www.thestar.com/living/food/article/1102812--porketta-bingo-is-sudbury-s-delicious-passion
  4:38pm
G:

So b/p, we could do your story as a remake of The Lost Weekend, with a working title of The Lost Waistline?
  4:39pm
Parq:

This Dug Beetle thing is like, Daniel Johnston Meets Tom Waits.
  4:39pm
tom:

plz help me find info on Claire Judice and the ClaireBearNightMare album.
  4:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

Carole King demo!!! Nice!
  4:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

I've grown to appreciate "Pleasant Valley Sunday"--it's almost like an American Kinks song.
  4:43pm
Matt from Springfield:

Julie's played an Eliza Rickman cover of this Nick Cave song--it's an amazing song, surprised more haven't tried to cover this.
  4:44pm
still b/p:

I get to wear Ray Milland's hat?! ...or belt? I'm a skinny mo' fo' and have always been. If I get large in just the belly from orgy-morseling, I'll be a freakish sight. Lean and pregnant.
  4:46pm
G:

@bp: So then we could do it as a horror movie, not a social-problem drama :-)
  4:47pm
autumn:

http://7ivanaxl7.bandcamp.com/
  4:48pm
still b/p:

Dark Chocolate Shadows.
  4:48pm
kat330:

Carole must eat a lot of chocolate. Not aging at all.
  4:53pm
listener David:

Is this picture the girl from Neverending Story? The Child Princess?
  4:55pm
Body:

Stop blaming ME! YOU are the drunk making me that way, Stick!
  5:02pm
Denise from DC:

Impressive version of Raymond Scott here. Is this kid in high school or college?
  5:03pm
Irwin:

Chapman University.
  5:05pm
Denise from DC:

D'oh! The playlist says so. Sorry, Irwin.
  5:05pm
G:

I GOT BLISTERS ON MY EARDRUMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5:05pm
ChrisB.:

Wow. Great student recital! Chapman was right around the corner from where I used to live in Orange, CA. Exene Cervenka lives in that nabe, too.
  5:05pm
Matt from Springfield:

Helter SCHkelter! Machen Sie Verrückte Spass!
  5:07pm
Joe Bacon:

Sounds like Curly of the Three Stooges on a bad acid trip!
  5:07pm
autumn:

hiding in the litter box
  5:10pm
kat330:

@autumn: Kitty likes chocolate?
  5:12pm
autumn:

no, just turkee. delee tuhrkey.
  5:13pm
Denise from DC:

My cats like chocolate. And cookies. And trail mix. And just about anything else edible by humans. Not to mention plenty that isn't, like regurgitated cat food.
  5:13pm
kat330:

Autumn, if you paw your way back to 4:13... :)
  5:16pm
kat330:

@Denise:! Heh! I had cats who like to retrieve and eat popcorn, and even one who liked cantaloupe, but not a list like yours. I used to look after a dog who enjoyed regurgitated (and otherwise eliminated) cat meals.
  5:16pm
G:

Regurgitated catfood is technically human-edible. We just normally have somewhat preferable options.
  5:17pm
Joe Bacon:

Still remember the dog I had as a kid. He hated dog food, always ate Purina Cat Chow.
  5:18pm
Denise from DC:

G, I was waiting for someone to make that point.

Kat, I can't leave anything that's edible unprotected for more than a couple of minutes, or else it'll have little kitty toothmarks in it. Last night I caught my cat Fergus trying to rip open a bag of Costco Fruit and Nut Mix. He loves the stuff.
  5:19pm
Droll:

G, Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence! Strictly speaking, nobody said it was regurgitated by the cat.
  5:19pm
jan:

Loving Chris Forsyth!
  5:20pm
G:

If I was in the Andean plane crash stranding or some such, regurgitated catfood would totally work for me. After talking myself into it and bracing myself, and making sure I was not breathing through my nose.
  5:20pm
kat330:

Well, at least you don't have the picky eater problem.
  5:22pm
Denise from DC:

Kat, I thought at first you were replying to G.
  5:22pm
G:

:-)
  5:22pm
kat330:

Why do dogs want to eat cat eliminations is what I'd like to know.
  5:22pm
Denise from DC:

Droll, are you an attorney?
  5:23pm
kat330:

Denise, I was actually thinking of typing it applied to both of you. :)
  5:23pm
Dogs:

Dogs are the green pet. Recycling.
  5:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: I wonder how other dogs view that "alternative style" of your dog..
  5:24pm
Dogs:

No vomit, no peace
  5:24pm
autumn:

ok. I lied. I was eating chocolate-covered delee turkeey
  5:25pm
kat330:

Well, then, YOU GO DOGS!
  5:27pm
Dogs:

Occupy Cat Shit!
  5:27pm
kat330:

@autumn: Awwww, s'okay. I knew a dog who liked cat Tootsie Rolls, so to speak.
  5:27pm
Droll:

Denise, I am not an attorney, but my legal advice is to enjoy Context-Free Patent Art: http://contextfreepatentart.tumblr.com/
I personally most enjoy the Tele-Puppet technology.
  5:27pm
kat330:

Irwin's intake of breath is hysterical!
  5:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

Dreamy Soft History indeed..that was a good one.
  5:31pm
Denise from DC:

Thank you, Droll! The tongue is the best.
  5:32pm
kat330:

@Denise: Whether Droll or not, I agree with you.
  5:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

Carole twin spin! Didn't know this was another one of hers.
  5:38pm
Denise from DC:

I like that she's singing about a woman.
  5:38pm
autumn:

99% of all good songs ever written-- are hers.
  5:38pm
Caryn:

Yay, Carole!
  5:38pm
G:

Disclaimer: Despite my prior desperation food-intake comments, I am at this moment eating actually Brooklyn-made pizza. Easy to say what you *would* do if you don't actually have to...
  5:39pm
G:

Carole totally redeems the Brill Bldg...
  5:39pm
kat330:

If you've seen her recently, I'm telling you, the mountain air is doing wonders to keep her young -- or chocolate.
  5:41pm
Irwin:

@G: Explain "redeem."
  5:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

I can imagine Doris and other woman reading these lines off of sheets of paper as it's being recorded.
  5:45pm
Carmichael:

That's right, Irwin. Carole MADE the Brill building.
  5:46pm
Denise from DC:

How much credit does Gerry get?
  5:47pm
G:

Cmon, Irwin, there was an in no way inconsiderable segment of scholck emanating from ye olde BB, no? If no, explain *your* position. :-)
  5:48pm

Whoa. Impressive list.
  5:49pm
Irwin:

@G: see "ghost" above. Then define "scholck."
  5:50pm
G:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturgeon's_Law

"90% of everything is crap"
  5:50pm
Brill Ghost:

and that's not even all of them.
kiss my music & lyrics, G.
  5:50pm
kat330:

"Redeem" is apparently tantamount to s duel challenge. I once said a Stevie Wonder track "redeemed" a certain unnamed FMU DJ's set, and I got back an email "What do you mean redeem?!" :)
  5:51pm
G:

In other words, a list maybe nine times as long as ghost's could be compiled on the other side of the cultural ledger...
  5:52pm
G:

Ghost? The Brill Bldg's still there. I happened to walk by it a few weeks ago and saw the plaque.
  5:52pm
Ghost of Other Side of Cultural Ledger:

yes, it includes Vanilla Ice
  5:52pm
Irwin:

@G: Makes you feel good to sneer, don't it?
  5:52pm
Carmichael:

But is it more *potent* a list, G? I think that's the point of the discussion.
  5:53pm
Droll:

These are definitely fighting words. I think a gentlemanly shlock-off is in order.
  5:53pm
kat330:

That was in my early activity in these environs, like an innocent Rod Stewart dis was, too. I learned my lesson: Flatter or keep your fingers shut. ;)
  5:53pm
G:

Redeem means "buy back" (Latin redemptus), from the idea of buying back a hostage from a negative situation in olden times.
  5:54pm
Matt from Springfield:

@G: Though, if 90% of *everything* is crap, then there's no point in either identifying anything as crap. Or better than crap. It would just be a law of nature (you don't point out the gravity, it just is).
  5:54pm
Ghost of Corner Deli Next To Brill:

I am no longer there-many of those writers got ham on rye. sniff.
  5:55pm
G:

No sneers here. There are just good and not so good (or, better and worse) parts to everything, and that's a fact. All the children are NOT actually above average :-)
  5:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: Irwin said he should "swat" me, because I disparaged the Four Seasons album of Dylan covers--I had nothing against the song (they did a wonderful "Queen Jane Approximately", and that's not a common cover either). I was just pointing the laziness of the concept of doing a Dylan covers album, particularly in the 60s. The works themselves were quite fine however.
So yeah, know where you're coming from :)
  5:57pm
Carmichael:

Let's leave it to Andy and Ken. They'll figure it out.
  5:57pm
Joe Bacon:

Another great show, Irwin!
  5:58pm
kat330:

Enjoyable as ever, Irwin! Happy Derby/Cinco de Mayo all!
  5:58pm
G:

The clock mandates that, Carm! Nice show, BB-defending-at-all-costs Irwin. :-)
  5:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

National Treasure Carole. We can all agree on that! (I hope...)

Great show Irwin! See you community dialoguers later!
