lol, last.fm isn't my URL, it's not like I'm promoting my own site, And you are the first DJ to mention that. It is definitely acceptable.

Promoting another website? really?
  3:24am
Lynn Lockjaw:

Pink Floyd makes it all go away, I just close my eyes and listen anyway ;)
  3:26am
last.fm=johnnykevlar:

It's not promoting anything. It's like posting a facebook page. You are the first and only person to ever mention it, and I'm a frequent commentator, do you even know what last.fm is? It's not like I get anything from people looking at my music tastes. People also never complain of the frequent linking to youtube that happens here. lol

A few WFMU DJs added me on last.fm, they would have to assume I had one or randomly google me to find it otherwise. My friendship that I started with Jason Sigal was worth it!

THE most underrated Genesis album, post Gabriel... haven't heard this for years!
  5:08am
fred von helsing:

Genesis gives me flashbacks. The prog station at school was run by a Genesis cult, so you could never get in trouble for playing too much of it. This is late 70s. Fun times.
  5:12am
fred von helsing:

Any and every evening of prog rock must end with Watcher of the Skies

Loved that "60 Years On", I love catalogue tracks by Elton, probably because most of them are not played often and still fresh!

i think regular listeners would be pretty confident that Ray would also turn up in your blokes' show, Julie! sorry to have missed my hero Julian at the top of the show too; he doesn't get enough exposure on FMU!
  5:22am
Matt from Springfield:

@ausmanx: Yes, Julie has said that Wind & Wuthering is her fav Genesis album, she's played "Blood on the Rooftop" in particular before. I myself like the transition from Peter to Phil, at first it was just like the later albums with Peter before he left.

Matt from Springfield:

It's just chilling off in the East Coast!
It got cooler yesterday afternoon--I've been mostly on AC but it was frigid in here when I woke up and now the heat's on! (63F--that's like 17C...)
  5:33am
Matt from Springfield:

This is a familiar song, but one that I never found out till I started listening to FMU a few years ago--it's kind of understated Soft Cell compared to their dance-heavy hits.

"Bedsitter Images" :)

Too bad I wasn't up for the middle of this show--those male vocal selections made for almost perfect, mellow late night listening!

From "Nights in White Satin", to "At The Chime of a City Clock", "Golden Hair", "Lalena", Tyrannosaurus Rex and Robyn Hitchcock...I'll listen to that whole when it's dark out!

You know this feeling when an advertising totally ruins a song. Some creepy advertisers did that to Mr blue sky. How I hate them...
  5:48am
Matt from Springfield:

@pierre: On the other hand I wouldn't even know of this song if weren't for an advertiser: Volkswagen. Over 10 years ago they had ad campaigns here with very good music, and the Mr. Blue Sky one was like a one minute short story film.

Which ads were you thinking of?
  5:48am
fred von helsing:

oh for a few bars there it sounded like one of the themes in Lynch's Dune
  5:50am

fred von helsing:

yes, it is a classic line, lovely, a keeper
  5:55am
pierre:

@Matt: a French one for a phone company. I mean I understand the discovering argument, but the problem with add, is that it's meant to be played over and over to make you want to buy something. Thus making the song heard a hundred time in a short time, and never in its entirety. I imagine them:"well ok, we're totally going to kill this song for everybody!"

Great show Julie! Thanks!

You'll bring the girls next week? Consider The Weather Girls, I think an album of theirs was "Here Come The Girls".
