I'm definitely throwing some prize account money Mr. Fine Wine's way for this fine show, his fantastic live remote and club night in Portland, Oregon and in celebration of the continued ever more positive recovery of DJ Jonathan Toubin.

Not your fault, Mr. Wine. The marathon this year is ending around the time it used to begin. How could you have known?
8:49pm
Robert:
I smell 1-shot fiscal gimmick. Or maybe not 1 shot. Instead of annual, maybe it has to be every 50 or 51 weeks now.

@Robert, you mean moving up to an earlier time of year? Can't be more than 1 shot -- highly inadvisable to get within 6 weeks of Xmas because everybody is all out of money just after Xmas.

Pledge NOW! You can choose "bill me later" if you can't pay now. Don't wait for next week, Finewine is out, pledge NOW.

Bossy Boots:
endless appreciation FW & DS

Robert:
Then, combining your last 2 comments, AFC, it can be kept up forever via the miracle of "float" -- an asset on the books of WFMU before it's debited from the pledger.
9:03pm
anonymous frequent commenter:
No because huge # of people pay immediately via web, and do NOT pay later
9:05pm
Robert:
But that proportion could be shifted if the marathon moves into the 6 weeks after Xmas.

highly inadvisable, Robert. Very difficult to alter listener behavior in such a fashion. Not worth enormous effort required. Always a tricky balance: Is it better to get their money NOW with a CC even though CC charges 3-5%, or send out a bill later (which costs postage) and risk non-fulfillment? CC charges are relatively enormous, but guarantees success. Fulfillment of later billing is only 90%-ish here (less at other stations). I only mentioned it b/c lots of people don't know it's possible & are waiting for payday
9:14pm
Robert:
Ken once quoted me that 90%-ish figure, and I was very impressed, having had a little experience with pledge financing and having heard from others. But you're right, CC is still better, and of course I was being facetious about using the float -- that way lies Greece.

Heh @ "that way lies Greece." Yikes!
Nice talking to you! Also, big thanks to Finewine for providing forum for chat.
