We watched "Pink Floyd live at Pompeii" in university. Out of all the songs they did, the extended "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" is the one that sticks in the mind.
I could live with Ann-Margret in the beans, even if it was a bit weird, but the chocolate after that just looks like sludge. Ugh.

The NFL and NBC both apologized, but by then I was already hiding in my bathtub, hugging my knees, rocking back and forth and crying. I don’t even know who won the game."

I wonder why they don't just get on with the football! (don't know why it's called football, the only time the ball is kicked is for a conversion point..? and the "ball looks more like a peanut than a ball..?) It's a game not a concert or a show and the commercials every time the ball goes out of play!!!

@G: Speaking of time-travelling girl-crush, I've tried to bring 20 year old Stevie Nicks over to my place many times, haven't been successful yet. Maybe once I tweak my fluxcapacitor a bit...

Heh, her age had nothing to do with it for me. I wasn't a big Madonna fan even back when... Don't dislike her, just not a fan and now she just seems dated...

"Many people live in emotional darkness because they have never fully enjoyed a child spirit in their overly serious lives. The child wanders homeless in the lives of many adults, who are captivated by psychologies of the "inner child" and books and films of childlike fantasy, such as the stories of Harry Potter And the Disney movies.
"Modern society, so adult and sophisticated, so busy at work and serious about knowing everything, has lost much of its childhood. Instead of playing actively and seriously, we let other people entertain us, and instead of enjoying a strong feeling of community, we are highly dependent on our electronic connections." ~Thomas Moore

@Julie: I think the media hypes them now more than anything... You know, talk'em up so their masters can keep hiking up the per second cost.

@MK: at least since the early 80s (The Apple 1984 commercial is probably the earliest example of an "event" Super Bowl ad, but there might have been earlier ones)

@MK: US road safety PSAs aren't usually as extreme as the UK, but the Drivers Ed films that they show in schools...Yeowch! Those are designed to scare high school students and keep them driving safe (for at least a few months!)

When I think of UK road safety PSAs, I keep thinking of David Prowse as the Green Cross Code man. Ah, Darth Vader telling the kids how to stay safe when walking to school...

@MK: Much like the notorious "Apaches" film, I think intended to scare schoolchildren.

The Super Bowl ad costs are linked to ratings of recent games...since it is so widely watched, they are able to charge enormous prices. Wasn't initially like that. Then when the ad prices became an annual "new high" the commercials themselves became an "event" like they are now.

For the record, I think Madonna's halftime was terrific. I have no clue who the "MIA" lady is, nor anyone else that performed.
