Listener comments!

  11:05am
Mike East:

I woke up with this song stuck in my head!!! Thanks for playing, now I can stop singing it.
  11:05am
Baby:

I'm witcha M. I've got this whole time difference thing down now. Play Marharishi!
  11:09am
Bob:

I noticed you haven't been playing the new Nick Lowe record. Are you as sort of indifferent about it as I am? First Nick record ever that I find sort of dull. I got a copy of that record store 78 he put out yesterday though, it's pretty cool.
  11:14am
seang:

man, that waffle maker scene bummed me out dude
  11:17am
Caryn:

@seang: well, it's still preferable to the pepper spraying incident or the shooting incident... sheesh!
  11:18am
seang:

Amy RIgby is back in the USA!!
  11:21am
Bob:

Daddy, why do these waffles taste like sad?
  11:32am
paul:

That was 30 great minutes of music!
  11:42am
Mike East:

I hate to say it, but I did end up going to a Toys R Us yesterday (because I got out of work early...not because it was black friday) and I ended up cursing a little bit at the girl who was ringing me up. I guess I'm part of the problem.
  11:45am
oscarmadiSUX:

i don't like #1hits ... hits ... hits ...
from my bruce! ... bruce! ... bruce!
  11:47am
Bob:

You summed up the problem with Bruce perfectly. He also suddenly feels he needs 16 guitar players on every track and on stage.
  11:47am
paul:

Harry knows Bo.
  11:49am
Mike Sin:

Check out the background story on this Harry Nilsson novelty track:

  11:50am
Peter:

Michael,
I don't know if it's a "problem", but Springsteen's fecundity as a songwriter certainly is an issue when it comes time to releasing an album. "The River" is where he really tried to interweave rave-up rockers with serious stuff, and that was a double album.

You should get a few of his albums though - IMHO he is the equal if not a greater songwriter than Hank Williams. Springsteen could have written "Cold, Cold Heart". Williams couldn't write "Thunder Road".
  11:52am
Mike East:

@Peter - I heard that "Hungry Heart" off the River was written for the Ramones, originally.
  11:53am
Michael:

Mike- why were you cursing her?
  11:53am
paul:

A Herman's Hermits-themed show. I like it.
  11:54am
Franklyn:

Michael can You Play some Emmitt Rhodes
  11:57am
Peter:

@Mike - you are correct. But Jon Landau - his producer told Springsteen to keep it for himself. Springsteen said Landau earned his pay with that call.
  11:59am
Uncle Michael:

I like this show.
  12:00pm
Uncle Michael:

Yes, some Emmit please.
  12:01pm
SD:

hey, where can i get that jay sherman-godfrey song? his website is down.
  12:03pm
Mike East:

@Michael - because she told me if I signed up for a rewards card I would get 10% off my purchase. Since I was getting a bunch of stuff for my 6 yr. old it was worth it. I specifically confirmed with her: "So I will get 10% off my total purchase TODAY even though most of this stuff is on sale already?" She confirmed that was true, and then took 10 minutes to enter my info in the computer (asked for my email 5 times, she was typing with one finger). When my total came up, 10% was NOT taken off so I asked what was up, and she said they would send me "something" in the mail. Apparently I just signed up to get some coupons for future purchases...which I won't need b/c I got everything I need for my kid yesterday.
  12:04pm
Michael:

I truly believe that Bruce would have made MUCH better records if he'd never met Landau....
  12:04pm
Michael:

Mike - get the manager next time!
  12:05pm
Uncle Michael:

Mike East...I hope you returned EVERYTHING on the spot.
  12:05pm
Michael:

http://www.jayshermangodfrey.com/ IT IS DOWN!
  12:07pm
Mike East:

Part of my cursing her involved: "If I wanted to be here for another ten minutes I would get a manager to give me the 10% off" I didn't want to be in the store anymore, so she had me there. I still may return the bulk of it, but last night, I just wanted to get out of there.
  12:08pm
Mike East:

hahahaha - next time I will try yelling like that.
  12:09pm
Peter:

@Michael -that may be, but then again, you heart he 'out-takes' from Darkness, and -someone- is making good editing choices.

I would have loved "Smile" if Van Dyke Parks didn't write the lyrics.
  12:09pm
paul:

Frank Costanza: Many Christmases ago, I went to buy a doll for my son. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way.
Kramer: What happened to the doll?
Frank Costanza: It was destroyed. But out of that a new holiday was born: a Festivus for the rest of us!
  12:11pm
Ben Drinken:

what a coincidence. I am cooking some andouile sausage and I turn on wfmu and he's playing a cajun song
  12:17pm
paul:

You making it or just cooking it?
  12:21pm
Ben Drinken:

just cooking some. i would love to make some, though. more difficult to make smoked type sausages from home without a smokehouse.
  12:25pm
Michael:

  12:26pm
SD:

The Rock And Roll Love Letter Ep rocks! Thanks for playing it
  12:36pm
Mike East:

btw - I got my Radio Es Amor Tshirt in the mail when I got home last night. That made me feel alot better after the toy store debacle. Thank you for cooling my blood, WFMU.
  12:37pm
seang:

turn it up!
  12:37pm
Caryn:

Ah, Kim Wilde. Blonde pop star turned brunette tv gardener...
  12:48pm
?:

I agree with your concern for the need for endorsement of contemporary musicians for grant permission to listen to vintage recording artists. Your example of the Louvin Brothers is perfect. I've seen numerous documentaries about musicians of the 1950s that are full of interview segments with musicians of the 1970s and 1980s. Why? I'd rather see interviews with musicians, songwriters, DJs, and fans from the same era who have first-person stories to tell. I don't need Keith Richards to tell me its OK to listen to Buddy Holly or Muddy Waters.
  12:50pm
Ben Drinken:

I got my shirt today. I had forgotten about even getting it. I thought it might have been one of the back ordered items from the marathon. I think I am waiting on a mug.
  12:50pm
paul:

Clearly a #1 show today.
  12:51pm
Chris:

More offensive than Beck is Zooey picking Louvin Brothers songs.
Just bothers me..
  12:52pm
Mike East:

@Ben - I thought it might be a backordered item, too - which made me nervous the way it was stuffed in my mailbox. I have a 7" record coming.
  12:53pm
Ben Drinken:

it would have to be a split 7"
  12:54pm
paul:

"More offensive than Beck is Zooey picking Louvin Brothers songs.
Just bothers me.. " So true.
  12:59pm
Uncle Michael:

Who was that singing I'll Fly Away?
  1:00pm
paul:

november?
