	11:34am clarke: hey, didn't get to weigh in on The Ponderosa Stomp, last week, as i was on the road. i tend to agree that prb just BEING in new orleans with your pals may be better than what the Stomp has become. in defense, though, i must inform all that it used to be really GREAT! it was less of a 'revue' show - which is what it has become, to me. it started out as some of the newer bands from the louisiana area backing up the stars - and a healthy dose of Sun Ra Arkestra. this was a great concept that never got really pursued - and the result is that the performances became more generic - generic like the JazzFest has become, and less, for me, at least. as a native new orleanian - i am a bit jaded on both events. but, i guess it is more geared for the tourist, now. ?? i am just saying that there is a time when it WASN'T. and, if anyone wants an EXCELLENT read, check out Peter Case's GREAT but short book: As Far As You Can Get Without A Passport. xxxcm

	12:05pm paul: Pledged back in feb and love the compilation CD. Bigfoot, Bat Poem, etc. Great stuff.
	12:17pm mrmucho: when I saw Elvis Costello some years back he was pretty effective in dealing with a heckler. however he probably had 99% of the audience on his side.
	12:22pm Adam Bresnick: Funny how I loved Elvis Costello back in the late 70s, as I have come to find his music annoyingly facile. EC's problem is that he can toss off tunes too easily. Tried to listen to Imperial Bedroom the other week and just loathed it. His producer Nick Lowe has aged much better than he has!
	12:24pm mrmucho: no doubt, his best stuff is the first few LPs. i can't really listen to anything after 'trust' personally. "overly mannered" is the phrase that always comes to mind.

	12:31pm paul: Brutal Youth and When I was Cruel have their moments, but the angry young elvis was outstanding. Same with Graham Parker. But, GP has a more of a sense of humor and irony that helps. Same with Nick.

	12:47pm Michael: Jim, I saw a screening a while ago - so it might have changed since I saw it - I loved all the music & performance stuff - but overall i thought it missed a great opportunity to leave you shattered emotionally - too much of his un-objective wife & her influence maybe.
